PARTICULAR DESCRIPTION.

Section 8: This is easy undulating land covered in short scrub and fern, with a fair run of hakea, practically all ploughable, and watered by swampy stream. The soil is friable clay resting on sandstone formation. Elevation ranges from 50 ft. to 200 ft. above sea-level.

Section 10: The section comprises easy undulating country, practically all ploughable. The soil is clay resting on sandstone formation, poorly watered by swampy springs. Elevation rises from 200 ft. to 250 ft. above sea-level.

Section 12: This section comprises easy undulating country with poor ridges, practically all ploughable. There is a little gorse and fair run of hakea on the area. The soil varies from clay to friable clay resting on sandstone formation. Section poorly watered by swampy streams. Elevation 70 ft. to 250 ft. above sea-level.

Section 14: Comprises easy undulating country with poor ridges, though practically all ploughable, and is fairly well sheltered. The soil is stiff to friable clay on sandstone formation. Swampy streams water the section which has an elevation of 70 ft. to 250 ft. above sea-level.

Section 15: The country in this section is easy undulating slopes, all more or less ploughable, and covered in short scrub and fern with some hakea. The section is well sheltered, and is watered by swampy streams. Elevation ranges from 70 ft. to 250 ft. above sea-level.

Section 17: About three-quarters of this section, which comprises undulating to steep country, is ploughable. The land is in short scrub, fern, and hakea; and is watered by swampy streams. Soil is of friable clay on sandstone formation.

Section 18: This section, which is practically all ploughable, comprises easy undulating land in short scrub and fern, and is watered by swampy springs. Elevation varies from 100 ft. to 250 ft. above sea-level.

Opening Lands in the Auckland Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.

BLEDISLOE, Governor-General.

In pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred on me by the Land Act, 1924, I, Charles, Baron Bledisloe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the Crown and national-endowment lands described in the Schedules hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Friday, the twentieth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and thirty, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedules; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.
NATIONAL-ENDOWMENT LAND.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Tauranga County.—Te Papa Parish.

ALLOTMENT 587: Area, 299 acres 2 roods. Capital value, £150. Half-yearly rent, £3.

Weighted with £90, for improvements comprising two old whares (in poor condition), stockyard, 50 chains road-boundary fencing, 40 chains subdivisional fencing (in poor order), felling and grassing. This sum must be paid in cash.

Grazing property, situated about twelve miles from Tauranga Railway-station, and four miles from Oropi School and post-office. About 60 acres bush land, felled and grassed, now reverting to fern, blackberry, and ragwort; balance in bush, broken by deep gorges. No water, except in gorge on back boundary. Section could be utilized as a change paddock by a holder of other land in the vicinity.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

THIRD-CLASS LAND.
Otorohanga County.—Wharepapa Survey District.

(Exempt from payment of rent for five years.)

SECTION 6, Block XV: Area, 293 acres. Capital value, £150. Half-yearly rent, £3.

Weighted with £735, for improvements comprising two-roomed whare, wool-shed and yards, shed, approximately 290 chains fencing, clearing, and grassing. This sum is payable either in cash or by a cash deposit of £160, leaving £245 on mortgage to State Advances Superintendent for thirty years, at 6 per cent. interest; half-yearly instalments, £8 17s.; and £350 on mortgage to His Majesty the King for 34½ years at 5½ per cent. interest. Half-yearly instalments, £11 7s. 6d.,

with five years' remission of interest on latter mortgage provided improvements to an equivalent value to the annual remission are effected annually.

Grazing property, situated half-mile from Ngaroma School, and thirty-three miles from Te Awamutu Railway-station. Section comprises approximately 250 acres bush land, felled and grassed, now reverted to second growth, with ragwort spreading; balance in standing bush. Well watered by streams.

Kawhia County.—Kawhia South Survey District.

(Exempt from payment of rent for five years.)

Section 2, Block III: Area, 983 acres. Capital value, £490. Half-yearly rent, £9 16s.

Weighted with £100, for improvements comprising dwelling of four rooms. This amount is payable either in cash or may remain on instalment mortgage to the State Advances Superintendent for a term of twenty years, with interest at the rate of 6 per cent. Half-yearly instalment £4 6s. 6d.

Grazing property, situated on the Awaroa-Mahoe Road, about thirteen miles from Oparau Dairy Factory, saleyards, and post-office, by metalled road (seven miles); balance unmetalled. There is a school, store, and launch-landing at Awaroa, seven miles distant. Section undulating and broken, approximately 350 acres has been felled and grassed, but now reverted to second growth; the balance being in mixed bush, comprising tawa, rimu, rata, with tawhero and rewarewa on the higher spurs, and with a dense undergrowth of supplejack, punga, &c. The soil is of medium quality loam, resting on rubble and clay formation. The section is well watered by running streams. Altitude 250 ft. to 750 ft. above sea-level.

Waitomo County.—Maungamangero Survey District.

(Exempt from payment of rent for five years.)

Lot 2 of Section 9, Block VI: Area, 296 acres. Capital value, £150. Half-yearly rent, £3.

Weighted with £110, for improvements comprising approximately 200 chains fencing (in poor condition), slab whare (12 ft. by 18 ft., iron roof), small shed, and yards. This sum is payable either in cash or may be secured on instalment mortgage to the State Advances Superintendent over a period of thirty years, with interest at 5 per cent. Half-yearly instalments, £3 11s. 2d. Exempt from payment of interest for twelve months from date of selection.

Grazing property, situated thirty-one miles from Te Kuiti Railway-station, sixteen miles from Pio Pio Post-office, store, and saleyards, fourteen miles of which is metalled and two miles clay road; four miles from Haku school. Property comprises 220 acres felled and grassed, now reverted, with ragwort spreading. Seventy-six acres standing bush. Well watered by running streams.

Note.--This area is offered conjointly with Section 10, Block VI, Maungamangero Survey District, adjoining, the successful applicant being required to take over both areas.

Otorohanga County.—Pirongia Survey District.

(Exempt from payment of rent for five years.)

Section 1, Block XIII: Area, 372 acres. Capital value, £185. Half-yearly rent, £3 14s.

Weighted with £70, for improvements comprising approximately 160 chains fencing, dwelling (two rooms, built of wood, iron roof). This amount is payable either in cash or secured by instalment mortgage to the State Advances Superintendent, extending over a period of twenty years; interest at 6 per cent., the half-yearly instalments being £3 0s. 7d.

Grazing property, situated on the Hauturu Road, one mile and a half from Te Rau-a-Moa School and post-office, twelve miles from Oparau store and saleyards, and twenty-four miles (of which all but last mile and a half is metalled) from Te Awamutu Railway-station.

Approximately 200 acres felled and grassed (now reverted), on which ragwort is spreading; balance heavy bush, comprising tawa, rimu, hinau, &c., with a dense undergrowth of supplejack and punga. Section lies high, and is undulating to broken, the soil being a light loam resting on clay and rubble formation. Watered by running streams. Area suitable for use for rough grazing run in conjunction with other property.

Waitomo County.—Kawhia South Survey District.

Part 6 and Lot 3 of Section 8, Block XVI: Area, 2,719 acres. Capital value, £685. Half-yearly rent, £13 14s.

Weighted with £50, for improvements which are not included in the capital value, and which require to be paid for separately, comprise 200 chains fencing. This amount is payable in cash, or to an approved applicant arrangements may be made for payment over a short term.

Situated on the Mangapuhoe Road, eighteen miles by metalled road from Hangatiki Railway-station; nine miles
