Notice making and levying Rates under the Hauraki Plains Act, 1926.

Department of Lands and Survey,
Wellington, 16th August, 1929.

I, GEORGE WILLIAM FORBES, Minister of Lands, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by the Hauraki Plains Act, 1926, do hereby make and levy upon the unimproved value of all lands liable to be rated pursuant to that Act a rate for the year ending on 31st March, 1930, on a graduated scale, as specified in the Schedule hereto, according to the classification of the land.

The said rate will be payable in one sum on the 13th day of September, 1929, to the Collector of Rates for the Hauraki Plains Rating District, at the office of the Chief Drainage Engineer, 5 Law Court Buildings, High Street, Auckland, at which office the rate-book will be open for inspection.

A copy of the rate-book may be inspected by ratepayers at the office of the Chief Drainage Engineer at Kerepeehi at all times at which that office is open for the transaction of public business.

SCHEDULE.

Class A.—On the unimproved value of all lands classified as Class A by the Appraiser appointed under the said Act, fourpence and sixty-two one-hundredths of a penny in the pound.

Class B.—On the unimproved value of all lands classified as Class B by the Appraiser appointed under the said Act, twopence and sixty-four one-hundredths of a penny in the pound.

Class C.—On the unimproved value of all lands classified as Class C by the Appraiser appointed under the said Act, sixty-six one-hundredths of a penny in the pound.

Justices of the Peace authorized to exercise Jurisdiction in Children’s Courts.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to authorize the Justices of the Peace named in the First Column of the Schedule hereto to exercise jurisdiction in the Children’s Courts established at the places named in the Second Column of the Schedule opposite the name of each such Justice of the Peace respectively.

Approving of certain Rear Red Reflectors in Terms of the Motor-vehicles (Supplementary) Regulations, 1928.

IN terms of Regulation 2 of the Motor-vehicles (Supplementary) Regulations, 1928, I, William Andrew Veitch, for the Minister of Public Works, do hereby revoke the Warrant issued under the said regulations, and dated the 3rd day of October, 1928, approving of certain rear red reflectors, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 4th of October, 1928, and in substitution therefor and amendment thereof do hereby approve of the following types of rear red reflectors for equipment to motor-vehicles in terms of Regulation 5 of the said regulations, provided that and so long as the respective type of reflector is identical in make, construction, and design, and similar in effect to the sample thereof deposited in the office of the Transport Department at Wellington, and marked according to the number indicated hereunder :—

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendment, prohibiting the Sale within the Borough of Bluff of certain Goods comprised in the Trade of a Tobacconist.

WHEREAS a petition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the tobacconists’ shops within the Borough of Bluff, has been forwarded to me desiring that the sale of certain goods comprised in the trade of a tobacconist—namely, cigarettes, tobacco, and smoking-requisites—be prohibited during such time as the said shops are required to be closed in pursuance of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22 :

And whereas I, William Andrew Veitch, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the sale of the said goods is comprised in the said trade within the said borough, and that the signatures to such petition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough :

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said Act, I do hereby direct that on and after the 30th day of September, 1929, the sale of the said goods within the said borough shall be and is hereby prohibited as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after the hour of 8 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays after the hour of 9 p.m., with the following exception—on the working-day that first precedes Christmas Day and on the working-day that first precedes New Year’s Day and on the Thursday immediately preceding Good Friday, the sale of the said goods is not prohibited.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendment, fixing the Closing-hours of Tobacconists’ Shops within the Borough of Bluff.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing has been forwarded to me from the occupiers of tobacconists’ shops within the Borough of Bluff, pursuant to section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22 :

And whereas I, William Andrew Veitch, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough :

Now, therefore, in pursuance of the said section 32, I do hereby direct that on and after the 30th day of September, 1929, all the said shops within the said borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 8 p.m., and on Fridays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this notice observe, pursuant to section 21 (b) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and section 10 (b) of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1927, any other day than Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Friday, if such day is not observed as the statutory closing-day, shall be 8 p.m., and the closing-hour on Saturday shall be 9 p.m. ; (2) on the working day immediately preceding Christmas Day and on the working day immediately preceding New Year’s Day, and on the working day immediately preceding Good Friday, there shall be no fixed closing-hour.

Position : Lat. 36° 26′ S., long. 174° 00′ E. (approx.).
Details : Captain J. Bollons, I.S.O., Government Lighthouse Steamer “Tutanekai,” reports as follows : “On 30th August, 1929, took lines of soundings across and along the bar. The best channel is now with the top beacon, about its own width open south of the lighthouse. On this line the least depth at low water is 24 ft. With the beacons in line the present depth is 13 ft. low water. This line also takes the northern edge of the Tory Shoal.”
