Now, therefore, I, Ethelbert Alfred Ransom, Minister of Public Works, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by section 7 of the Main Highways Amendment Act, 1925, and of every other power in anywise enabling me in this behalf, do hereby declare that the provisions of the said section 119 of the Public Works Act, 1928, shall apply to the Dannevirke–Waipukurau via Porangahau Main Highway between Dannevirke and Weber.

Applying the Provisions of Section 119 of the Public Works Act, 1928, to the Weber–Eketahuna Main Highway from Weber to the Southern Boundary of the County of Weber.
WHEREAS by resolution dated 29th June, 1929, the Main Highways Board recommends, in pursuance of section 7 of the Main Highways Amendment Act, 1925, that the provisions of section 119 of the Public Works Act, 1928, be applied to that portion of the Weber–Eketahuna Main Highway from Weber to the southern boundary of the County of Weber :

Cancellation of Notice under the Shops and Offices Act fixing Closing-hours of Ironmongery and Hardware Shops in the City of Nelson.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing has been forwarded to me from the occupiers of ironmongery and hardware shops within the City of Nelson pursuant to section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22 :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of the said section 32, I, William Andrew Veitch, Minister of Labour, do hereby direct that the notice dated the 17th February, 1909, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 18th February, 1909, fixing closing-hours of ironmongery and hardware shops in the City of Nelson, shall be and is hereby cancelled as from the date hereof.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendment, fixing the Closing-hours of Chemists’ Shops within the Combined District of Dunedin.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the chemists’ shops within the Combined District of Dunedin, comprising the City of Dunedin, and the boroughs of St. Kilda, Port Chalmers, West Harbour, and Green Island, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops within the said combined district, save and except the shop (hereinafter referred to as “the exempted shop”) established at 22 Dowling Street, within the City of Dunedin, for the purpose only of the sale of medicines and surgical appliances that are urgently required, and known as the “Associated Chemists, Limited,” be closed as set out below, and that subsection (4) of section 35 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, should not apply to any shop within two miles and a half of the exempted shop while medicines and surgical appliances are obtainable from the exempted shop: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 6 p.m., on Fridays at 9.30 p.m. and on Sundays except during the time from 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., with the following exceptions —(1) Should the working-day that first precedes Christmas Eve and should the working-day that first precedes New Year’s Eve fall on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, then and in such case the closing-hour on such working-days shall be 9.30 p.m.; (2) on the working-day that first precedes Christmas Day, and on the working-day that first precedes New Year’s Day, the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m.; (3) on the working-day that first precedes Good Friday, the closing-hour shall be 9.30 p.m.:
And whereas I, William Andrew Veitch, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said combined district, and that all the occupiers of the said shops within the said combined district affected by section 35 (1) of the said Act have been afforded an equal right to share at a reasonable cost in the profits of the business carried on by the exempted shop :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of sections 32 and 35 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and in pursuance of section 15 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1927, I do hereby direct that on and after the 29th day of July, 1929, all the chemists’ shops within the Combined District of Dunedin, save and except the exempted shop, shall be closed accordingly. The notice dated the 23rd January, 1923, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 25th January, 1923, fixing the closing-hours of Chemists’ shops in the City of Dunedin, shall be and is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

NOTES.—(1) Pursuant to section 21 (e) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, a chemist may keep his shop open (but only for the supply of medicines and surgical appliances) between the hours of 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on the statutory closing-day.
(2) Pursuant to section 35 (4) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, a chemist in the combined district whose shop is more than two miles and a half from the exempted shop may supply medicines and surgical appliances that are urgently required on Sundays and on working-days outside the hours specified above: Provided that the shop is opened for such purpose only, and is closed immediately the sale is effected, and that the door of the shop is kept locked, except for the admission and exit of the customer.
