grassed, of which 250 acres have gone back to second growth and rubbish ; balance good pasture. There is a further area of 600 acres (approx.) good country which could be profitably felled and grassed. Watered by creeks. New bridge in course of erection near section, completing access to Toa Toa, &c.

Special condition.—After payment of the rent for the first half-year and broken period (if any) the rent will be remitted for a period not exceeding five years, on condition that extra new improvements to the value of at least the annual rental are effected annually. In event of failure to observe this condition in any one year, all rent remitted will become payable.

Opening Education Reserves in Taranaki Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.

CHARLES FERGUSSON, Governor-General.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1924, and the Education Reserves Amendment Act, 1910, I, General Sir Charles Fergusson, Baronet, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the education reserves described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease for the term of thirty-three years, with right of renewal for successive periods of thirty-three years, on Monday, the twenty-sixth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-eight, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule ; and I do also declare that the said reserves shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Acts.


SCHEDULE.

TARANAKI LAND DISTRICT.—EDUCATION RESERVES.

Waitomo County.—Totoro Survey District.

(Exempt from Payment of Rent for Five Years.)

SECTION 13, Block XI: Area, 302 acres. Capital value, £150. Half-yearly rent, £3 15s.

Exempt from payment of rent for a period of five years providing improvements to the value of £30 are effected annually during the exemption period.

Weighted with £370, valuation for improvements comprising about 60 chains of fencing, five-roomed dwelling with outbuildings, and about 80 acres pasture. This amount is either payable in cash, or may be secured by way of first mortgage to the State Advances Department.

Situated about thirty miles from Te Kuiti Railway-station, about one mile and a half from Onairo School, and six miles from Aria Dairy Factory. About 280 acres was originally felled and grassed, but of this about 200 acres has deteriorated. The soil consists of medium quality loam on rhyolite and sandstone formation. Well watered by permanent springs and creeks.

Eltham County.—Omona Survey District.

(Exempt from Payment of Rent for Five Years.)

Section 7, Block XII: Area 562 acres. Capital value, £230. Half-yearly rent, £4 12s.

Exempt from payment of rent for a period of five years subject to improvements being effected annually to the value of £30 during the exemption period.

Weighted with £450, valuation for improvements comprising whare, shed, dip, and yards. About 43 chains of fencing and about 260 acres felling and grassing, now deteriorated. This amount is payable in cash, or may be secured by way of first mortgage to the State Advances Department.

Access is from Eltham Railway-station to Moeroa, thirty-one miles distant, four miles of which is not yet metalled, thence from Moeroa for about four miles of clay dray-road, and one mile of stock track. Comprises mostly steep sidlings; 460 acres has been felled and grassed, but has gone back to scrub and fern ; balance is in bush.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred on me by the Land Act, 1924, I, General Sir Charles Fergusson, Baronet, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Monday, the twenty-sixth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-eight, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule ; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.


SCHEDULE.

TARANAKI LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Clifton County.—Upper Waitara Survey District.

(Exempt from Payment of Rent for Five Years.)

SECTION 7, Block III: Area, 658 acres. Capital value, £450. Half-yearly rent, £9.

Exempt from payment of rent for a period of five years provided improvements to the value of £40 are effected annually during the exemption period.

Situated on the Moki Road, and distant from Uruti Township by about eleven miles. About 220 acres has been felled and grassed, but this has now reverted to fern and second growth ; balance area is in bush. Generally the property is fairly broken, with a little easy country.

Ohura County.—Aria Survey District.

(Exempt from Payment of Rent for Five Years.)

Section 2, Block VII: Area, 826 acres. Capital value, £400. Half-yearly rent, £8.

Exempt from payment of rent for a period of five years provided improvements to the value of £100 are effected annually during the exemption period.

Weighted with £600, valuation for improvements comprising two-roomed whare, about 300 chains fencing, and about 400 acres felling and grassing. After payment of £60 deposit, the balance of loading is to be secured by way of first mortgage under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act for a period of 34½ years.

Situated on the Pirere Road, about fourteen miles from Matiere Station, six miles from Rira School, and eleven miles and a half from Aria Dairy Factory. Comprises 200 acres of flat and undulating country ; balance hilly. 400 acres has been felled and grassed, but has now gone back to fern and second growth. Soil is of a light nature. Well watered by streams.

Patea County.—Kapara Survey District.

(Exempt from Payment of Rent for Ten Years.)

Sections 8 and 9, Block V: Area, 1,951 acres. Capital value, £825. Half-yearly rent, £16 10s.

Exempt from payment of rent for a period of ten years provided improvements to the value of £82 10s. are effected annually during the exemption period.

Weighted with £1,175, valuation for improvements comprising about 300 chains fencing, four-roomed house, dip, and yards. After payment of a deposit of £120 the balance is to be secured by way of first mortgage for a period of 34½ years under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act. An exemption of the interest payable under the mortgage for a period of two years will be allowed providing improvements to the value of £120 are effected. Therefore, the total improvements to be effected in order to gain the remission of rent and interest are £202 10s.

Situated on the Ridge and Mataimoana Roads, about twenty-four miles from Waverley Station and eighteen miles from Kohi School and Dairy Factory. Comprises high-lying country, 900 acres of which is in fair to worn-out pasture ; balance is in bush.

Eltham County.—Omona Survey District.

(Exempt from Payment of Rent for Three Years.)

Section 1, Block XVI: Area, 1,845 acres. Capital value, £900. Half-yearly rent, £18.

Exempt from payment of rent for a period of three years providing improvements to the value of £50 are effected annually during the exemption period.

Weighted with £910, valuation for improvements comprising approximately 300 acres felling and grassing, about 200 chains fencing, five-roomed dwelling, wash-house, and whare. This amount is payable in cash or may be secured by way of first mortgage to State Advances Superintendent.

Situated about four miles from Moeroa Post-office and about twenty-four miles from Eltham Railway-station. About 300 acres have been felled and grassed, but this is now deteriorating to second growth and fern. The balance area is in fairly light bush, comprising for the most part tawa, with a heavy undergrowth.

Section 3, Block VIII: Area, 1,397 acres. Capital value, £350. Half-yearly rental, £7.
