Ohura County.—Aria Survey District.

(Exempt from Payment of Rent for Six Years.)

Sub. 2 of Section 9, Block XI; Area, 502 acres 1 rood 32·8 perches. Capital value, £270. Half-yearly rent, £5 8s.

Exempt from payment of rent for a period of six years provided improvements to the value of £30 are effected annually during the exemption period.

Weighted with £240, valuation for improvements comprising dwelling and outbuildings (£200), and 80 chains fencing valued at £40. This amount to be paid in cash or may be taken over by way of mortgage to the State Advances Superintendent.

Situated on the Waikaka Road. Access is from Matiere, nine miles distant by formed road. Public Works train runs daily from Okahukura to Matiere. Comprises steep and broken country, 350 acres of which has been felled and grassed, but has now gone back to fern and second growth; balance in mixed forest. Soil is of a medium quality. Well watered by streams.

Taumarunui County.—Piopiotea West Survey District.

NATIONAL ENDOWMENT.

(Exempt from Payment of Rent for One Year.)

Section 4, Block I: Area, 836 acres. Capital value, £650. Half-yearly rent, £13.

Exempt from payment of rent for a period of twelve months providing improvements to the value of £65 are effected.

Weighted with £1,150, valuation for improvements comprising three-roomed cottage, shed, woolshed, dip, and yards; about 450 chains fencing, and about 636 acres felling and grassing, now deteriorated. After payment of deposit of £115, balance of improvement-money is to be secured by way of a first mortgage under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act for a term of 34½ years. An exemption of interest for a period of twelve months will be allowed under mortgage providing improvements as mentioned above are effected.

Section is situated on the Kururua and Whakamaro Roads, about eight miles from Taumarunui Railway-station and three miles from Otunui South School. Comprises easy to steep hills of fairly even slope; 25 acres of which is practically flat and ploughable. About 636 acres has been felled and grassed, now going back to fern, &c.; balance is in standing bush. Soil is of a good loam on clay and papa formation. Fairly well watered.

Opening Settlement Land in Southland Land District for Selection.

CHARLES FERGUSSON, Governor-General.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1924, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1925, I, General Sir Charles Fergusson, Baronet, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand do hereby declare that the settlement land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Tuesday, the thirteenth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-eight, at the rental mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said land shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Acts.


SCHEDULE.

SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SETTLEMENT LAND.—FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Wallace County.—Wairaki Survey District.

Beaumont Settlement.

SECTION 12, Block XXIX: Area, 222 acres 0 roods 14 perches. Capital value, £445. Half-yearly rent, £11 2s. 6d.

Weighted with £100, valuation for outbuildings and fencing, to be paid for in cash.

Situated five miles from Nightcaps Railway-station and two miles from Opio. Altitude, 600 ft. to 700 ft. Open undulating land of only medium quality. Suitable for grazing.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1924, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1925, I, General Sir Charles Fergusson, Baronet, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the settlement land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Friday, the second day of March, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-eight, at the rental mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said land shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Acts.


SCHEDULE.

CANTERBURY LAND DISTRICT.—SETTLEMENT LAND.—FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Mackenzie County.—Opaha Survey District.—Ashwick Settlement.

SECTION 6, Block XIII: Area, 752 acres. Capital value, £4,600. Half-yearly rent, £115.

Weighted with £845, valuation for improvements consisting of dwellinghouse, other buildings, fencing, grassing, planting, &c., payable by £50 in cash and by successful applicant giving a first mortgage over the lease to the State Advances Superintendent for £245, the balance of £550 to be made repayable by forty-two half-yearly instalments of £21 9s.

Remission of rent as under will be granted to the successful applicant, provided improvements are effected to the satisfaction of the Land Board to at least the value of the amount of rent so remitted: At the end of one year and a half from the commencement of the lease, one year’s rent will be remitted. At the end of two years and a half from the commencement of the lease, a further half-year’s rent will be remitted. At the end of three years and a half from the commencement of the lease, a further half-year’s rent will be remitted.

Situated seven miles from Fairlie Railway-station, one mile from Kimbell School. Sheep-grazing land. About 300 acres flat, balance ranging to 1,900 ft. Should carry 700 ewes and a few cattle. Turnips can be grown on 250 acres and oats on 100 acres. Subdivided into twelve paddocks.
