(7) Kaingaroa Anchorage: The master of s.s. “Tees”
stated that, only the day before he was interviewed,
when leaving the anchorage he obtained a depth of
4½ fathoms when in mid-channel between the
eastern and western reefs.
(8) Waitangi West Bay: The master of s.s. “Tees”
stated that foul ground extended about 1⅓ miles
250 deg. from Mohau Point. Fishermen state that
the foul ground on West Reefs extend more to S.W.
than charted.
(9) Young Reef: The master of s.s. “Tees” states he
considered this reef extended another ½ mile further
N.W. than charted.
(10) Pitt Island: Rocks are reported in the following
positions:—
One close to N.E. side of Mangere Island.
One 8¼ miles 332 deg. from charted position of
William Hamilton Reef.
One 6·7 miles 344 deg. from charted position of
William Hamilton Reef.
One 2·2 miles 023 deg. from charted position of
William Hamilton Reef.
(11) Hanson Bay: Fishermen state (and the master of the
s.s. “Tees” confirms this as he constantly steams
up the coast about 1 mile from the shore) that the
reported reefs do not exist and that the coast is
clear.
(12) Ouwenga (Cape Fournier): A reef, called locally
“Old Man Reef,” extends for about ¾ mile to 1 mile
N.N.E. direction from coast just to the east of
Ouwenga Settlement.
S.s. “Tees” always anchors in 6 fathoms under
lee of the reef about ¾ mile from shore, in good
holding ground of sand and mud. In westerly
winds he has anchored off Te Awapatiki (6 miles
340 deg. from Ouwenga) about 1 mile off shore.
(13) Taupeka, 6½ miles 110 deg. from Cape Young, provides
good anchorage in west and south-west winds in
6 to 7 fathoms, distant ¾ mile from shore.
(14) Tangipu (S.W. of Cape Young): Good anchorage
1 mile off shore in 10 fathoms in easterly winds.
(15) Ocean Bay (N.Z. Pilot, page 481): Stated to be a
bad anchorage as it is too rocky.
(16) Whangaroa (N.Z. Pilot, page 480, Port Hutt):
Stated to be full of kelp and not cared for as an
anchorage.
(17) Waihere Bay (N.Z. Pilot, 483–3): Good anchorage
in east winds with round rock just shut in by S.W.
point of bay.
Remarks: The foregoing information has been obtained from
Captain A. Dowell, master s.s. “Tees,” who has consider-
able knowledge of this locality, from his personal observa-
tion, and from information given to him by local fishermen.
Though the positions of the new rocks reported above
must be regarded as very approximate, yet it is considered
there is no doubt as to their existence since they are all
known to the local fishermen.

Notice to Mariners No. 67 of 1928.
Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z. 8th October, 1928.
SUMMER TIME.
INFORMATION is hereby given that the time for general
purposes in New Zealand shall, during the period of
summer time, be thirty minutes in advance of New Zealand
standard time.
The use of summer time does not affect the use of New
Zealand standard time for purposes of astronomy, meteorology,
or navigation, or affect the construction of any document
mentioning or referring to a point of time in connection with
any of those purposes.
The Summer Time Act, 1928, prescribes the period of
summer time shall be taken to be the period beginning at
two o’clock, New Zealand standard time, in the morning of
the second Sunday in October, 1928, and ending at two
o’clock, New Zealand standard time, in the morning of the
third Sunday in March, 1929.
The attention of mariners is drawn to the several elements
contained in the New Zealand Nautical Almanac and Tide-
tables which are given in terms of New Zealand standard
time, and to the necessity for adding thirty minutes to all
such times if desiring to obtain them in terms of summer time.
Admiralty and other publications for navigational purposes
will be similarly affected.
