HIS Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion
of New Zealand has been pleased to make the following
appointments to the Cook Islands Public Service under
sections 12, 104, and 110 of the Cook Islands Act, 1915, and
the Post and Telegraph Act, 1908 :-
Binfield, R. E.
to be Assistant Fruit Inspector, from 16th May, 1928.
Conway, T.
to be Assistant Fruit Inspector, from 31st May, 1928.
Kennedy, J. D.
to be Assistant Fruit Inspector, from 1st June, 1928.

Appointments, Promotions, Resignations, and Transfers of
Officers of the N.Z. Military Forces.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased
to approve of the appointments, promotions, resigna-
tions, and transfers of the undermentioned officers of the
New Zealand Military Forces.
THE CANTERBURY YEOMANRY.
Lieutenant F. A. Juggins is retired. Dated 12th March,
1928.
THE REGIMENT OF N.Z. ARTILLERY.
Lieutenant H. H. Osmers, M.M., 3rd Field Battery, to be
Captain. Dated 28th May, 1928.
Lieutenant E. R. Winkler, 7th Field Battery, is posted to the
Retired List with the rank of Captain, with permission to
wear the prescribed uniform. Dated 31st May, 1928.
2nd Lieutenant L. E. Bullock is transferred from the 6th Field
Battery to the 19th Medium Battery (How.), with seniority
as from the 15th September, 1927. Dated 31st May, 1928.
2nd Lieutenant W. J. E. A. P. Brophy, 7th Field Battery, is
transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b), R.D. 6.
Dated 31st May, 1928.
2nd Lieutenant L. J. Croot, 14th Medium Battery (How.),
resigns his commission. Dated 31st May, 1928.
CORPS OF N.Z. ENGINEERS.
Central Depot.
The seniority of Lieutenant K. Rix-Trott is antedated to 8th
May, 1925.
Southern Depot.
Lieutenant E. G. Ferriday resigns his commission. Dated
23rd March, 1928.
THE N.Z. INFANTRY.
The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly's Own).
Lieutenant J. E. Wade, from the Reserve of Officers, to be
Lieutenant, and seconded for duty with the 1st C Battalion.
Dated 28th May, 1928.
The undermentioned to be 2nd Lieutenants (on probation).
Dated 23rd May, 1928.
Walter Robert Hugh Martin, and seconded for duty with
the 3rd C Battalion.
Charles Norman Nicholls, and seconded for duty with the
2nd C Battalion.
The Wellington Regiment.
2nd Lieutenant R. W. Harvey, from the Southland Regiment,
to be 2nd Lieutenant, with seniority as from the 27th June,
1927, and seconded for duty with the 2nd C Battalion.

The Canterbury Regiment.
Lieutenant G. M. McKenzie (Retired List) to be Lieutenant,
and seconded for duty with the 1st C Battalion. Dated
23rd May, 1928.
Edward Lunn to be 2nd Lieutenant and seconded for duty
with the 5th C Battalion. Dated 25th May, 1928.
The Southland Regiment.
2nd Lieutenant R. W. Harvey, 1st C Battalion, is transferred
to the Wellington Regiment. Dated 31st May, 1928.
N.Z. AIR FORCE.
Captain C. Musgrave, A.F.C. (Class C), R.A.F., ceases to be
attached. Dated 23rd May, 1928.
Captain A. C. Upham, D.F.C., is posted to the Retired List,
with permission to retain his rank and wear the prescribed
uniform. Dated 23rd May, 1928.
2nd Lieutenant H. L. Piper is retired. Dated 23rd May, 1928.
The undermentioned 2nd Lieutenants, on transfer to the
N.Z.A.F. as cadets, relinquish their substantive commissions,
and are granted the honorary rank of 2nd Lieutenant.

N.Z. MEDICAL CORPS.
With reference to the notice published in the N.Z. Gazette
No. 34, of 26th April, 1928, relating to Captain R. A. H.
Fulton, M.B., for the word "attached" read "posted."
With reference to the notice published in the N.Z. Gazette
No. 29, of 5th April, 1928, relating to Lieutenant A. D.
Iverach, M.B., for the word "attached" read "posted."
With reference to the notice published in the N.Z. Gazette
No. 47, of 7th June, 1928, relating to Captain T. W. Maben,
for the words "Southern Depot" read "Northern Depot."
RESERVE OF OFFICERS.
Lieutenant (temp. Captain) A. J. Coutts relinquishes the
temporary rank of Captain. Dated 17th May, 1928.

Award of Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long-service Medal.

to approve of the award of the Colonial Auxiliary
Forces Long-service Medal to Lieut.-Colonel C. J. W. Lockie,
the North Auckland Regiment.

Dismissal from the Forces.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has approved of
the dismissal of the undermentioned soldier of the
Territorial Force from the New Zealand Defence Forces
under section 6 (b), Defence Act, 1909, he having been con-
victed by the Civil power :-
No. 11A/2858, Private A. E. Arundale, 1st Battalion, Otago
Regiment. Dated 25th May, 1928.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman,
Akitio County Council, is published in accordance with
the provisions of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1926.

AKITIO COUNTY COUNCIL.
Pursuant to section 13 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1926,
I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the
County of Akitio was taken on the 30th day of May, 1928,
on the proposal of the Akitio County Council to make and
levy under section 24 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1926, a
special rate over the whole of the County of Akitio, to be
called a "bridge rate" (not to exceed in any one year the
amount of three-farthings in the pound on the capital value
