Opening Settlement Lands in Auckland Land District for Selection.

CHARLES FERGUSSON, Governor-General.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1924, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1925, I, General Sir Charles Fergusson, Baronet, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the settlement lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Friday, the twenty-seventh day of July, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-eight, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Acts.

SCHEDULE.

AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SETTLEMENT LAND.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Tauranga County.—Ohauiti Settlement.

SECTION 14s: Area, 132 acres 2 roods. Capital value, £170. Half-yearly rent, £4 5s.

Weighted with £118 15s., valuation for improvements comprising half-share in 100 chains boundary and 50 chains subdivisional fence (in poor order) and grassing. Payable in cash or by a cash deposit of £48 15s., the balance being repayable over a period of five years by ten half-yearly instalments of £8 1s. 9d.

Situated about ten miles by good formed road from Tauranga Railway-station and dairy factory, and four miles from Ohauiti School. Cream is collected within two miles of section. About 45 acres in worn-out pasture, 60 acres easy country covered with fern and tea-tree; the balance comprising steep faces and gullies. Patches of gorse and a little blackberry. Soil light sandy loam on pumice formation; watered by creeks and springs.

Sections 15s and 16s: Area, 575 acres 0 roods 18 perches. Capital value, £565. Half-yearly rent, £14 2s. 6d.

Weighted with £355, valuation for improvements comprising dwelling of three rooms and pantry, four-roomed dwelling with bathroom and scullery (in fair order), and cowshed and implement-shed combined. Repayable in cash or in fourteen years by twenty-eight half-yearly instalments of £17 18s. 7d.

Situated about eight miles from Tauranga Railway-station, post-office, and dairy factory, and one mile from Ohauiti School. Cream cart calls within two miles of the property. About 90 acres level to undulating land in worn-out pasture; balance being hilly broken country, at present covered with fern and tea-tree. Soil of a sandy nature on pumice formation; watered by creek and springs. There is a little ragwort on the sections.

The improvements, included in the capital value, comprise 240 chains of boundary and 110 chains subdivisional fence and grassing; valued at £315.

Sections 21s and 22s: Area, 761 acres 3 roods. Capital value, £800. Half-yearly rent, £20.

Weighted with £285, valuation for buildings comprising dwelling of four rooms (in fair order), three-roomed dwelling (unlined), four-roomed dwelling (in dilapidated condition), two cow-byres, separator-room, and cartshed. Repayable in cash or in fifteen years by thirty half-yearly instalments of £13 14s. 7d.

Grazing property, situated ten miles from Tauranga Railway-station and dairy factory, and one mile and a half from Ohauiti School. Cream cart calls within one mile and a half of property. About 70 acres in worn-out pasture, 20 acres rough pasture, 110 acres easy country, and 8 acres light bush. The balance is broken country, covered with fern and manuka. Watered by creeks and springs.

The improvements, included in the capital value, comprise 360 chains boundary and 160 chains subdivisional fence, felling, and grassing; valued at £340.

SECTION 587: Area, 299 acres 2 roods. Capital value, £150. Half-yearly rent, £3.

Weighted with £230, valuation for improvements comprising two whares (in poor condition), stockyard, and branding race; 90 chains fencing, felling, and grassing; repayable in cash.

Grazing property, situated about twelve miles from Tauranga Railway-station, and four miles from Oropi School and post-office. About 60 acres bush land, felled and grassed; balance in bush, broken by deep gorges. There is a little blackberry and ragwort. No water, except in gorge on back boundary. Section could be utilized as a change paddock by a holder of other land in the vicinity.

THIRD-CLASS LAND.

Rotorua County.—Otanewainuku Survey District.

Section 7, Block XVI: Area, 191 acres. Capital value, £60. Half-yearly rent, £1 4s.

Weighted with £46 17s. 6d., valuation for improvements comprising 25 chains fencing (in fair order) and grassing. Payable in cash or, to an approved selector, by instalments over a short period.

Grazing property situated about fourteen miles from Ngototaha Railway-station and two miles and a half from Kaharoa Post-office and school. About 20 acres in worn-out pasture; the balance being in bush. Sandy soil of fair quality on pumice formation, the section being broken by deep gullies. Ragwort is spreading. Watered by creeks and springs.

Vesting the Control of a Scenic Reserve in the Motu Scenic Board.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon him by section thirteen of the Scenery Preservation Act, 1908, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand doth hereby vest the control of the reserve described in the Schedule hereto (being land reserved under the said Act), for the period of five years from the date hereof (unless previously altered or revoked under the said Act), in the undermentioned persons, namely,—

Richard Scarborough Fisher,
Frederick William Peddle,
George Oswald Donovan,
Robert Charles Craig,
Ellis Pryce Fisher,
Frederick Adolph Hansen, and
Thomas Schollum,

who are hereby constituted for that purpose a special Board by the name of the Motu Scenic Board (herein referred to as “the Board”), in trust, for the preservation of scenery, and with the powers and subject to the conditions hereinafter contained, that is to say,—

  1. The first meeting of the Board shall be held on Monday, the sixteenth day of July, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-eight, at eight o’clock p.m., in the Public Hall, Motu, and thereafter the Board shall meet for the transaction of business on the third Monday in each month at the time and place aforesaid, or at such other time or place as may from time to time be fixed by the Board.

  2. The members of the Board shall at their first meeting, and thereafter at the annual meeting hereinafter mentioned, elect one of themselves to be Chairman, who may join in the discussion, and shall have an original as well as a casting-vote. The Chairman shall hold office until the election of his successor.

  3. Special meetings may be convened by the Chairman, provided that two days’ notice of such meeting is given to each member, specifying the business to be transacted at
