Empire Day to be observed as a Holiday on King’s Birthday.

Plumbers Registration Act, 1912.

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE, PLUMBERS BOARD EXAMINATION, 28TH AND 29TH OCTOBER, 1927.

THE following candidate, having passed the examination of the Plumbers Board of New Zealand, held on the 28th and 29th October, 1927, his name has been entered in the Register of Plumbers of New Zealand, in pursuance of sections 8 and 17 (b) of the Act :—

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendment, fixing the Closing-hours of Grocers’ Shops within the Borough of Westport.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the grocers’ shops within the Borough of Westport has been forwarded to the Minister of Labour, desiring that all such shops within the said borough be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 5.30 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions: (1) If the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observes, pursuant to section 14 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then, and in such case, the closing-hour for such shop on Thursday shall be 5.30 p.m. and on Friday 9 p.m.; (2) when in any week any shop affected by this requisition is closed during the whole of the day on which it may remain open until 9 p.m in accordance with this requisition, then and in such case the closing-hour for that shop on the evening of the working-day immediately preceding such day shall be 9 p.m.:

And whereas the Minister of Labour is satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, I, for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, do hereby direct that on and after the 28th day of May, 1928, all the grocers’ shops within the Borough of Westport shall be closed accordingly.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendment, prohibiting the Sale within the Borough of Westport of certain Goods comprised in the Trade of a Grocer.

WHEREAS a petition in writing signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the grocers’ shops within the Borough of Westport has been forwarded to the Minister of Labour, desiring that the sale of certain goods comprised in the trade of a grocer—namely, sugar, tea, coffee, cocoa, candles, rice, sago, tapioca, flour, oatmeal, jam, tinned fish, sultanas, raisins, currants, soaps (other than toilet soaps), starch, blue, and vinegar—be prohibited during such time as the shops in such trade are required to be closed in pursuance of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22:

And whereas the Minister of Labour is satisfied that the sale of the said goods is comprised in the said trade within the said borough, and that the signatures to such petition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said Act, I, for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, do hereby direct that on and after the 28th day of May, 1928, the sale of the said goods within the said borough shall be and is hereby prohibited as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after the hour of 5.30 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays after the hour of 9 p.m., with the following exceptions—viz., when in any week any grocers’ shop is closed during the whole of Friday, then and in such case the sale of the said goods is prohibited after the hour of 9 p.m. on the Thursday immediately preceding that day.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendment, fixing the Closing-hours of (1) Hairdressers’ and (2) Tobacconists’ Shops within the Borough of Gisborne.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing has been forwarded to the Minister of Labour from the occupiers of shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist within the Borough of Gisborne, pursuant to section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of the said section 32, I, for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, do hereby direct that on and after the 28th day of May, 1928, all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist within the said borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 6 p.m., and on Saturdays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) On the working-day first preceding Christmas Day and on the working-day first preceding New Year’s Day and on the working-day first preceding Anniversary Day for the Province of Auckland there shall be no fixed closing-hour; (2) should the occupier of any shop affected by this notice observe, pursuant to section 14 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Thursday shall be 6 p.m. and on Friday 9 p.m.

The notice dated the 26th January, 1927, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 27th January, 1927, fixing the closing-hours of (1) tobacconists’ and (2) hairdressers’ shops within the Borough of Gisborne, is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice:

And whereas the said requisition is signed by not less than two-thirds of the occupiers of tobacconists’ shops within the said borough, notice is hereby given that, pursuant to section 25 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1927, all other shops within the said borough in which smoking requisites are sold shall be closed at the same hours as are set out herein for tobacconists’ shops.
