Additional Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, and its Amendment, Fixing the Closing-hours of Chemists’ Shops within the Combined District of Christchurch.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the chemists’ shops within the Combined District of Christchurch, comprising the City of Christchurch and the Borough of Riccarton, has been forwarded to the Minister of Labour, desiring that all such shops within the said combined district, save and except the shop (hereinafter referred to as “the exempted shop”) established at Dominion Buildings, Gloucester Street, within the City of Christchurch, and known as the “All Night Dispensary,” for the purpose only of the sale of medicines and surgical appliances that are urgently required, be closed on Sundays, pursuant to section 15 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1927, and, further, that subsection (4) of section 35 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, shall not apply to any chemist’s shop which is within two miles and a half of the exempted shop while medicines and surgical appliances are obtainable from the exempted shop:
And whereas the Minister of Labour is satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said combined district, and that all the occupiers of the said shops within the said combined district affected by section 35 (1) of the said Act have been afforded an equal right to share at a reasonable cost in the profits of the business carried on by the exempted shop:
Now, therefore, in pursuance of sections 32 and 35 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, and in pursuance of section 15 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1927, I, for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, do hereby direct that on and after the 20th day of May, 1928, all the chemists’ shops within the Combined District of Christchurch, save and except the exempted shop, shall be closed accordingly.

NOTE.—Pursuant to section 35 (4) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, a chemist in the combined district whose shop is more than two miles and a half from the exempted shop may supply on Sundays medicines and surgical appliances that are urgently required: Provided that the shop is opened for such purpose only and is closed immediately the sale is effected, and that the door of the shop is kept locked except for the admission and exit of the customer.

Prohibition of Issue of Money-order and Transmission of Postal Correspondence in New Zealand for S. A. Finanziaria Fede, Lugano, Switzerland.
THE Postmaster-General of the Dominion of New Zealand having reasonable ground for supposing that the person whose name and address are shown in the Schedule hereunder is engaged in promoting or carrying out a lottery or scheme of chance, it is hereby ordered, under section 28 of the Post and Telegraph Act, 1908, that no money-order in favour of the said person shall be issued, and that no postal packet addressed to the said person (either by his own or any fictitious or assumed name), or addressed to the address in the Schedule hereunder without a name, shall be either registered or forwarded by the Post Office of New Zealand.

Falcon Island: Further Information.
Former Notices: Wellington Notice No. 76 of 1927, and No. 13 of 1928.
Position: Lat. 20° 19′ S.; long. 175° 25′ W. (approx.).
Details: Captain John Bollons, New Zealand Government steamer “Tutane Kai,” reports that on 26th April, 1928, he observed Falcon Island to be 2 miles in length in a N.N.E.-S.S.W. direction, and 550 ft. in height. The island was in violent eruption, and lava was flowing into the sea on both sides.

St. Mary’s Bay Boat Harbour: Area defined and Buoy removed.
Previous Notices: Wellington Notice No. 58 of 1927, and No. 61 of 1913.
Position: Lat. 36° 51′ S.; long. 174° 46′ E., (approx.).
Details: St. Mary’s Bay Boat Harbour is defined as being that portion of Auckland Harbour bounded on its northern and western sides by the recently completed breakwater and a right line drawn across its opening, and on its eastern side by a right line drawn from a position one cable westward of the base of the Freeman Bay reclamation in a direction 017° to where it meets the recently completed breakwater at a position 310 ft. westward of the eastern extremity of that breakwater. The small black buoy, existing on this right line and marking the north-eastern corner of the hitherto protected area for yachts, will be removed, as this area has become embraced by the newly established St. Mary’s Bay Boat Harbour.

Victoria Wharf: Fog-signal.
Former Notice: Wellington Notice No. 4 of 1928.
Position: Victoria Wharf, situated 310 ft. westward of Depot Point in lat. 36° 50′ S., long. 174° 48′ E., (approx.).
Date of establishment: 1st June, 1928.
Details: An electrically-driven bell, sounding approximately 120 beats per minute, situated at the western end of the new cargo wharf, will be operated continuously during weather of low visibility.

Radio Beacon temporarily discontinued.
Position: Lat. 34° 29′ S., long. 172° 39′ E. (approx.).
Details: Owing to slight mechanical defect the Radio Beacon Service has been temporarily discontinued. It is expected the defect will be remedied and the service resumed at an early date, due notice of which will be issued.
