Situated about ten miles from Patetonga Landing school and store, or twenty-five miles from Morrinsville Railway-station by metalled road to Tahuna; balance formed road. The soil is of poor loam resting on clay formation, covered with tea-tree scrub and fern. Poorly watered by springs. This section might prove suitable as an off-run for a wet section on the Hauraki Plains.
Hauraki Plains County.—Piako Survey District.
Section 16, Block VII: Area, 333 acres 2 roods. Capital value, £170. Deferred payments: Deposit, £10; half-yearly instalment, £5 4s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £3 8s. Weighted with £50, valuation for an iron whare, to be paid for in cash.
Distant about six miles from Waitakaruru Township and Landing by formed road, two miles and a half of which has been metalled. There is a regular bus service plying between Thames and Waitakaruru. The nearest school is at Waitakaruru, and there is a store and post-office one mile distant from the section. The section comprises hilly scrub land, about 20 acres of which has been cleared and grassed. The soil is of poor quality, resting on clay formation; poorly watered by streams.
Waikato County.—Piako Survey District.
Section 2, Block X: Area, 217 acres 3 roods 30 perches. Capital value, £170. Deferred payments: Deposit, £10; half-yearly instalment, £5 4s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £3 8s.
Situated about twelve miles from Te Kauwhata Railway-station and two miles and a half from Okairea School. The land is undulating to hilly, covered with a growth of scrub and tea-tree with patches of straggling native bush. The soil is of medium to poor quality, about two-thirds ploughable, and could be profitably improved. Suitable for dairying or grazing when improved.
Whakatane County.—Rangitaiki Upper Survey District.
Section 8, Block V: Area, 188 acres 3 roods 34 perches. Capital value, £570. Deferred payments: Deposit, £30; half-yearly instalment, £17 11s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £11 8s.
Weighted with £12 10s., valuation for drains, to be paid for in cash.
Situated about four miles from Te Teko School, Post-office, and store, ten miles from Edgecumbe Railway-station and Rangitaiki Dairy Factory. Access is from Te Teko by main Whakatane—Rotorua Road and access road. The section comprises about 15 acres poor scrub and fern hill, balance low-lying, wet peat swamp. The soil is of peaty nature, resting on pumice formation; well watered by river and Mangaone Stream.

Opening Lands in the Taranaki Land District for Sale or Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1924, and the amendments thereof, I, General Sir Charles Fergusson, Baronet, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and seventy-six of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Monday, the twenty-first day of March, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-seven; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash or on deferred payments, or be selected on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased as that mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1924, and the amendments thereof.
SCHEDULE.
TARANAKI LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Taumarunui County.—Piopiotea West Survey District.
SECTION 3, Block III: Area, 243 acres. Capital value, £1,250. Deferred payments: Deposit, £65; half-yearly instalment, £38 10s. 3d. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £25.
Section is situated on the Wanganui River Road. Access is from Taumarunui, about seven miles and a half distant, formed and partly metalled road. Comprises undulating country originally covered with light bush and manuka. Soil is of a mixed quality. Well watered by springs. Valuation for 220 acres felling and grassing, 240 chains fencing, dwelling and sheds is included in capital value.
Egmont County.—Kaupokonui Survey District.
Section 1, Block V: Area, 191 acres. Capital value, £260. Deferred payments: Deposit, £15; half-yearly instalment, £7 19s. 3d. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £5 4s.
Section is situated on the Te Kiri Road, about four miles from Te Kiri Township, by metalled road to within one mile and a half, then by medium class dray road. Access is from Opunake by Main South, Eltham, and Te Kiri Roads. Comprises easy country, broken by gullies. About 100 acres has been felled, now in second growth. Soil is of a light volcanic nature. Well watered by running streams.
Stratford County.—Taurakawa Survey District.
Sections 9, 10, 12, 13, and 14, Block I: Area, 1,000 acres. Capital value, £640. Deferred payments: Deposit, £35; half-yearly instalment, £19 13s. 3d. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £12 16s.
Sections 9 and 10 have originally been felled and grassed, but most of this has now reverted to fern and second growth. Sections 12, 13, and 14 are still in standing bush.
This property is situated at the head of the Puniwhakau Valley, about seven miles from Puniwhakau Village; access to Sections 12, 13, and 14 is gained from the Whaka Road, whilst access to Sections 9 and 10 is from Puniwhakau Road.
Waitomo County.—Mapara Survey District.
Section 3, Block I: Area, 346 acres. Capital value, £800. Deferred payments: Deposit, £40; half-yearly instalment, £24 14s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £16.
Situated about three miles from Puketutu Railway-station and about eleven miles from Te Kuiti. The soil consists chiefly of a light loam quality resting on rhyolite formation. It is well watered by streams. A good proportion of the area is ploughable and when fully developed should make a good milking and fattening proposition.
Improvements to the value of £454, comprising 3-roomed dwelling, 140 chains of fencing, 15 acres felling and grassing, 40 acres scrub land cleared and grassed, 10 acres cultivated pasture is included in the capital value.
Waitomo County.—Pahi Survey District.
Section 2, Block I: Area, 510 acres 3 roods. Capital value, £1,150. Deferred payments: Deposit, £60; half-yearly instalment, £35 8s. 6d. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £23.
Section is situated four miles from Mangapehi Railway-station and school. Comprises 80 acres in fair pasture, 80 acres bush land felled and grassed; balance is in bush and is of fair quality. Soil is of a fair quality. Well watered by creeks and springs.
Valuation for 80 chains fencing, approximately 80 acres of felling and grassing, dwelling, and two sheds is included in capital value.
Patea County.—Kapara Survey District.
Section 3, Block IV: Area, 570 acres. Capital value, £650. Deferred payments: Deposit, £35; half-yearly instalment, £19 19s. 9d. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £13.
Section is situated at the head of the Makakaho Stream, distant thirty-five miles from Waitotara Railway-station. Comprises rough and broken country. 510 acres have been felled, but reverting to second growth, and 60 acres standing bush. Soil is of a fair quality, on papa and sandstone formation. Well watered by streams.
Valuation for 57 chains fencing, whare, and 510 acres of felling and grassing is included in capital value.
Eltham County.—Omona Survey District.
Section 1, Block XVI: Area, 1,845 acres. Capital value, £900. Deferred payments: Deposit, £45; half-yearly instalment, £27 15s. 9d. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £18.
Weighted with £1,100, valuation for improvements, comprising 300 acres felling and grassing, 200 chains of fencing, 5-roomed dwelling, bathroom, pantry and scullery, wash-house, and whare, to be paid for in cash or taken over on mortgage to the Superintendent, State Advances Department.
This property is situated about four miles from the Moeroa Post-office and about 24 miles from Douglas Railway-station. About 300 acres have been felled and grassed, but this is now in a deteriorated state. The balance of area is in fairly light bush, comprising for the most part tawa with a heavy undergrowth.
