THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

  1. The rate of travelling-allowance that may be paid to members of County Councils shall be as follows:—
    (a) Fares actually payable by public conveyance by the most direct route from the member’s home or place of business, whether by rail, steamer, coach, or tram, and whether such public conveyance is in fact used or the member elects to use private means of conveyance.
    (b) Where any such public conveyance is not available, or available only at greater cost, either (i) the expenses attaching to a member’s use of his own horse or vehicle at a rate not exceeding 8d. per mile, counted both ways, together with actual cost of stabling or garage expenses not exceeding 5s. for each night that a horse or vehicle has to be kept from home; or (ii) fares actually paid for cab or other special conveyance.
    (c) When a member is obliged to absent himself from his home or place of business, living-expenses at the rate of £1 per day of twenty-four hours, and a proportionate sum for any part of a day of necessary absence, the period allowed for to commence and determine respectively at the hours nearest to the time of departure from, and return to, the member’s home or place of business.

  2. The Council may, in lieu of the above payments, with the sanction of the Audit Office, pay to any member a sum not exceeding the necessary expenses actually incurred and paid by that member.

  3. Before any member is paid any claim for travelling-allowances under these regulations he shall sign a certificate that the same is correct in all particulars, and that he has not been already paid any sum and will not claim or accept any sum in respect of the same travelling-expenses by or from any other person or body corporate, and shall deliver such certificate to the County Chairman or Clerk.

THE following Notices to Mariners, which have been received from the Department of Defence and the Department of Trade and Customs, Melbourne, are published for general information.

AUSTRALIA.—EAST COAST. (INNER BARRIER ROUTE).—
ROCKY ISLET.

Alteration in Light.

Mariners and others are hereby notified that the old lighthouse on Rocky Islet was replaced by a new structure, and that the power of the flashing white light (U) was increased on 11th November, 1927.

Position : On western slope in position of old tower. Lat. 15° 37′ S., long. 145° 20′ E., on Chart No. 2923.

Power : 8,500 candles.

Visibility : 15 miles from 330° to 342° at full power. The light is also visible at reduced power from 302° to 330° and from 342° through N. to 040°.

Structure : Square concrete house with white lantern 22 ft. in height.

NOTE.—Archer Point main light and Rocky Islet light in line 336° lead nearly in mid channel between Eh reef and Thomas Point.

Remarks : In other respects the light remains unaltered. No further notice will be given.

AUSTRALIA, EAST COAST.—QUEENSLAND, HAY ISLAND TO BOW REEF.

Shoal reported.

Position : Lat. 13° 18′ 22″ S., long. 143° 39′ 39″ E.

Depth : 6 fathoms.

Remarks : A shoal, carrying 6 fathoms or less, is reported to exist in the above position (5 cables 276° from Bow Reef Beacon).
