“ (4) For the purposes of paragraph (b) of subclause (2) hereof, a teacher’s
period of service shall comprise the actual period spent in teaching, together
with any period during which the teacher has been on leave with full pay
or half pay, but does not include any period of school holidays or any other
period.”
7. Clause 88 is hereby deleted and the following substituted therefor:—
“ 88. Notwithstanding anything in these regulations the Minister may,
after consultation with the Board concerned, modify in any way which he
may determine the staff of teachers employed in any technical school or
technical high school or in any branch of manual training, including the
supervision of elementary agriculture and science in schools controlled by
the Board.”
VI. SECONDARY SCHOOLS—STAFFING, SALARIES, ETC.
The regulations relating to staffing and salaries of secondary schools
made by Order in Council dated 5th May, 1924, and amended by Orders in
Council dated 1st September, 1924, 12th December, 1924, 23rd March,
1925, and 22nd March, 1926, are hereby further amended as follows:—
- Clause 11 (3) is hereby deleted and the following substituted therefor:—
“ 3. If circumstances make it appear expedient that a modification of
the staffing of a school otherwise provided by these regulations is reasonable
or necessary, the Minister may authorize or direct the Board to modify
the staffing in such manner and for such period as he thinks fit.” - Clause 15 is hereby amended by adding the following subclause:—
“ (4) Whenever, in accordance with these regulations, the Board is
required, in order to reduce the staff of a school, to select a teacher whose
services are to be dispensed with, the Director of Education shall be consulted
before the Board comes to a decision.” - Clause 17 (2) is hereby amended by the addition of the following
words:—
“ Provided that he shall not be entitled to receive the annual increments
referred to in subclause (1) hereof so long as the school remains in the lower
grade.” - Clause 22 is hereby revoked as from the 1st day of May, 1927, and the
following substituted therefor from that date:—
“ Married Allowance.—An assistant holding a full-time position, whether
relieving or permanent, who is married or is a widower or widow, shall
subject to any limitation hereinafter provided, receive an addition of £40
per annum to the salary otherwise provided in the regulations:
“ Provided that no payment under this clause shall be made (a) To a
married assistant whose husband or wife is employed in the Education
Service or Government Service, or is otherwise employed to such an extent
as to satisfy the Minister that an allowance under this clause should not be
paid; or (b) to a widower, widow, or married woman assistant unless the
Minister approves such payment on account of the fact that he or she has
a child under sixteen dependent upon and supported by him or her, or on
account of other special circumstances; or (c) to an assistant who is pro-
vided with free residence; or (d) in any special case if the Minister, taking
into consideration the special circumstances, is of opinion that an allow-
ance under this clause should not be paid.” - Clause 23 is hereby deleted.
- The following new clause is hereby inserted:—
“ 24A. (1) Subject to the provisions of the next succeeding subclause,
every teacher shall be entitled to be paid only in respect of the following
periods:—
(a) The period commencing on the school day on which he enters upon
his duties and ending on the school day on which his duties cease,
including any holidays that may intervene between those dates:
(b) Any period of school holidays that may immediately succeed the day
on which his duties cease as aforesaid; in the case of the mid-
summer holidays such period shall be deemed to end not later
than the 31st day of January in any year:
(c) The period necessarily occupied in transferring from one position to
another.
(2) The last preceding subclause shall be read subject to the following
special provisions, namely:—
(a) A teacher who enters upon his duties during the first week in
February in any year may be paid from the 1st day of February,
inclusive, in that year.
