- Clause 74 is hereby amended by deleting the proviso to subclause (ii).
- Clause 77 is hereby amended by adding the following subclause :—
(iv) The duties of the Principal shall include the following—
(a) The management of the teaching staff and the educational direction
of the technical school :
(b) The advising of students as to classes and courses suitable to their
needs ; consultation with parents and employers :
(c) The general supervision and oversight of the technical school and of
its inside and outside activities :
(d) The co-ordination of the work of the school, especially that of even-
ing classes with the trade training obtained by students in their
occupations :
(e) Reporting to and advising the Board in regard to—
(i) Appointment of teachers.
(ii) Educational projects, courses, &c.
(iii) Sites, buildings, equipment, &c.
(f) Oversight of the office staff, and the general management of the
finances of the school. In his capacity as the Board’s chief
executive officer, it shall be part of the duties of the Principal
to act as Secretary to the Board, and the instructions of the
Board shall be carried out under his direction.
(g) Oversight of caretaking and cleaning of buildings and maintenance
of buildings and grounds.
In connection with any of the above-mentioned duties, the Board may
provide the Principal with such assistance as may be permitted by these
regulations, but no additional salary or allowances beyond those specified
herein shall be paid to the Principal in respect of his service under the
Board. - Clause 82 is hereby deleted as from the 1st day of May, 1927, and the
following substituted therefor from that date :—
“82. Married Allowance.—An assistant holding a full-time position,
whether relieving or permanent, who is married or is a widower or widow,
shall, subject to any limitation hereinafter provided, receive an addition of
£40 per annum to the salary otherwise provided in the regulations :
“Provided that no payment under this clause shall be made (a) To a
married assistant whose husband or wife is employed in the Education
Service or Government Service, or is otherwise employed to such an extent
as to satisfy the Minister that an allowance under this clause should not be
paid ; or (b) to a widower, widow, or married woman assistant unless the
Minister approves such payment on account of the fact that he or she has a
child under sixteen dependent upon and supported by him or her or on
account of other special circumstances ; or (c) to an assistant who is provided
with free residence ; or (d) in any special case if the Minister, taking into
consideration the special circumstances, is of opinion that an allowance
under this clause should not be paid.” - The following new clause is hereby inserted :—
“82A. (1) Subject to the provisions of the next succeeding subclause,
every teacher shall be entitled to be paid only in respect of the following
periods :—
“(a) The period commencing on the school day on which he enters upon
his duties and ending on the school day on which his duties
cease, including any holidays that may intervene between those
dates :
“(b) Any period of school holidays that may immediately succeed the
day on which his duties cease as aforesaid ; in the case of the
midsummer holidays such period shall be deemed to end not
later than the 31st day of January in any year :
“(c) The period necessarily occupied in transferring from one position
to another.
“(2) The last preceding subclause shall be read subject to the following
special provisions, namely :—
“(a) A teacher who enters upon his duties during the first week in
February in any year may be paid from the 1st day of February,
inclusive, in that year.
“(b) A teacher who, during any year ending on the 31st day of January,
has been on leave without pay for a period or periods exceeding
in the aggregate five school days, shall be entitled to be paid
only for such part of the school holidays during that year as is
equal to one-fourth of his period of service as hereinafter defined.
“(3) Notwithstanding anything in paragraph (b) of the last preceding
subclause, the Minister may in any case authorize the payment of salary
in respect of the whole period of holidays or in respect of a greater portion
of those holidays than is therein provided for.
