Notice to Mariners No. 50 of 1927.

THE following Notices to Mariners, which have been received from the Department of Defence, Melbourne, and the Secretary, Harbour Board, Adelaide, are published for general information.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA.—SPENCER GULF.—WALLAROO.

Light on New Shipping Pier.

Masters of vessels, pilots, and others are hereby informed that on or about the night of Monday, 1st August, 1927, and thereafter, an all-round green flashing-light (unwatched) will be exhibited from an iron tower, painted white, at the sea end of the new shipping pier, the focal plane being 24 ft. above high-water. The light will flash 60 times per minute, and should be visible one mile in clear weather. Sea end of new shipping pier is approximately 1,000 ft. inshore and 600 ft. northward of existing jetty.

On the same date shipping will be discontinued at the existing jetty, and will in future be carried on at the new pier. The navigation light on the existing jetty will continue to function.

Approximate position of existing jetty: Latitude, 33° 55¾′ south; longitude, 137° 36¾′ east.

AUSTRALIA, SOUTH COAST.—SPENCER GULF.

Submerged Rock reported.

Position: Latitude, 34° 58½′ south; longitude, 136° 57′ east.

Remarks: A submerged rock, 30 ft. in area, with a depth of about 2 fathoms over it, is reported to exist in the above position.

Notice to Mariners No. 51 of 1927.

NEW ZEALAND.—NORTH ISLAND.—HAURAKI GULF.—AUCKLAND HARBOUR.

Protected Anchorage for Yachts and Launches.

Position: Depot Point in lat. 36° 50′ S., long 174° 48′ E. (approx.).

Details: The area inside the Devonport Sand-spit enclosed by the foreshore and by the following right lines has been set aside as a protected anchorage area for yachts and launches: Commencing on the foreshore at Depot Point; thence 099° 2,600 ft. to Devonport Sand-spit lighted beacon; thence 027° 1,800 ft. to the base of the Defence Wharf.

Notice to Mariners No. 38 of 1927 is hereby cancelled.

Notice to Mariners No. 52 of 1927.

NEW ZEALAND.—NORTH ISLAND.—WEST COAST.—KAIPARA HARBOUR.

Bar Soundings.

Position: Kaipara Bar, lat. 36° 26′ S., long. 174° 00′ E.

Details: On 22nd July, 1927, a line of soundings was taken across the bar, the shoalest water obtained being 26 ft. M.L. W.S. The marks are the flagstaff north of lower beacon and the lighthouse a little north of the top beacon. After crossing the bar inwards on these marks a vessel must gradually close the beacon till they are about two widths open before reaching the North Sand-spit.

Notice No. 12 of 1927 is hereby cancelled.
