SCHEDULE.
OTAGO LAND DISTRICT.
QUARANTINE Island, opposite Port Chalmers: Area, 37 acres. Upset rental, £40 per annum. Term of lease, twenty-one years from 1st July, 1927, without right of renewal.
Good grazing land. All necessary buildings. Good boat service several times a day, if needed.
The buildings on the island, valued at £300, must be paid for in cash by the successful bidder for the lease.
Abstract of Conditions of Lease.

Lease to be under Part I of the Public Reserves and Domains Act, 1908, and amendments.

The lessee shall have no right to compensation for improvements on the land, but on expiry of the lease, or sooner determination, he will be allowed one month in which to remove all buildings or fences erected or paid for by him.

If any part of the land is cultivated it must be left down in permanent pasture.

The lessee shall not sublet, transfer, or otherwise dispose of his interest in the property without the consent of the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Dunedin.

The lessee shall prevent the spread of gorse, broom, ragwort, and all other noxious weeds, and rabbits, to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Dunedin.

The lessee will be liable for all rates and taxes that may become due and payable.

After the payment of the first half-year’s rent, the annual rental will be payable in two equal half-yearly instalments on the 1st day of January and the 1st day of July in each year.

(a) If the lessee fails for a period of two calendar months to pay the regular half-yearly payment as it falls due, his lease will be liable to forfeiture; (b) while any breach of the conditions of the lease will also render it liable to forfeiture, in each case at the discretion of the Commissioner of Crown Lands.

The right of free access is reserved to the Crown, and to the Otago Harbour Board, which has a beacon at the extreme western end of the island. The lessee must take all reasonable care to see that the beacon is not interfered with or damaged in any way.

Timber in Wellington Land District for Sale by Public Auction.
District Lands and Survey Office,
Wellington, 24th May, 1927.
NOTICE is hereby given that the right to cut and remove the timber on the undermentioned lands will be offered for sale by public auction at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, at 2.30 o’clock p.m. on Thursday, the 9th June, 1927, under the provisions of the Land Act, 1924, and the Timber Regulations thereunder.
SCHEDULE.
WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT.
PARTS of Raetihi 5B No. 3 Block, Block I, Karioi Survey District: Area, 176 acres, approximately.
Estimated quantity, in superficial feet: Rimu, 612,625; miro, 104,250; kahikatea, 13,100; matai, 90,970; totara, 168,910.
Upset price: £1,125.
Time for removal: Eighteen months.
Terms of Payment.
One-fifth of the purchase-price to be paid on the fall of the hammer, together with timber-cutting license fee, £1 1s.; one-fifth in six months, one-fifth in nine months, and the remaining two-fifths in twelve months thereafter.
All instalment payments shall bear interest at the rate of 5 per centum per annum as from the date of sale, and, with the interest added, shall be secured by “On demand” promissory notes made and endorsed to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of Crown Lands.
Conditions of Sale.

The right to cut and remove the timber will be sold generally in accordance with the provisions of the Land Act, 1924, the Timber Regulations made thereunder, and the following conditions and such additional conditions as the Commissioner in his discretion considers necessary.

The quantities set forth in the above Schedule are approximate only, and are furnished for the information of intending purchasers, who are expected, previous to the sale, to make their own estimate of the quantity of timber. No contract for purchase shall be voidable, nor shall the licensee be entitled to any abatement in price, by reason of the said timber being of less quantity, quality, and kind than as stated herein, nor shall any extra sum be claimed by the Crown if the quantity of timber is found to be in excess of that stated herein.

The promissory notes will be presented at intervals as indicated in the terms of payment, but they may be presented for payment at earlier dates if more than a due proportion of the timber is found to be cut, or should any breach of the conditions occur, or if in the opinion of the Commissioner the interest of the Crown is jeopardized.

The purchaser of the timber shall have no right to the use of the land.

The timber shall be cut in a face, and the Crown reserves the right to follow up the mill workings by felling and grassing such areas as from time to time are cleared of milling-timber. Sufficient timber shall be left for fencing and general farming purposes. Cutting must commence within six months of date of sale and be continuous during the currency of the license.

The Land Board may authorize the laying-down and working of tram-lines through this lot by other persons than the licensee of the particular lot affected.

The licensee shall not put, throw, or place, or allow to be put, thrown, or placed, into any river, stream, or watercourse, or into any place where it may be washed into any river, stream, or watercourse, any sawdust or other sawmill refuse.

If the timber is unsold at auction the right to cut it at the upset price will remain open for application until further notice.

No compensation will be given, nor shall any be claimed, for any error, discrepancy, or misdescription whatever in respect of this lot or in these conditions.

Should any dispute arise as to boundaries, the decision of the Commissioner of Crown Lands shall be final and conclusive.

Small Grazing-run in Wellington Land District for Lease.
District Lands and Survey Office,
Wellington, 25th May, 1927.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned small grazing-run is open for selection in terms of the Land Act, 1924; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, the 27th June, 1927.
Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, on Tuesday, the 28th June, 1927, at 10.30 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant so desires he may be examined by the Land Board of any other district.
Preference at the ballot will be given to landless applicants who have one or more children dependent on them, to landless applicants who within two years immediately preceding date of ballot have applied for land at least twice unsuccessfully, to applicants who have served beyond New Zealand as members of the Expeditionary Force; to persons engaged on military service beyond New Zealand in connection with the late war, if such persons immediately prior to the war were bona fide residents of New Zealand, and to applicants who, while domiciled in New Zealand, have served beyond New Zealand as members of any of His Majesty’s Forces in connection with any war other than the war with Germany.
SCHEDULE.
WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT.—THIRD-CLASS LAND.
Waimarino County.—Whirinaki Survey District.—Wanganui River Trust Endowment.
SECTION 6, Block XV: Area, 3,208 acres. Capital value, £1,200. Half-yearly rent, £30.
Weighted with £40, valuation for fencing, payable in cash. This section is situated on the main ridge at the head-waters of the Piraruhe Stream. Access is from Raetihi, which is twenty-eight miles distant by twelve miles of metalled dray-road, fourteen miles of formed dray-road, and two miles of horse-track. Comprises broken hilly country, all in bush, with the exception of some 800 acres which have been felled and grassed, but now reverted to second growth. The forest comprises chiefly rimu and matai, with totara and tawhero in high places. Well watered by streams and springs. Altitude 1,380 ft. to 1,780 ft.
