Rescission of Forfeiture of Land in Hawke's Bay Land District cancelled.

NOTICE is hereby given that the notification of the rescission of the forfeiture of the lease over the undermentioned land, notified in the Gazette of the 17th March, 1927, page 689, is hereby cancelled, and the land has reverted to the Crown.

Inferior Lands in Auckland Land District open for Selection.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are open for selection in pursuance of section 223 of the Land Act, 1924, and the regulations thereunder, and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, up to 4 o'clock p.m. on Friday, the 24th June, 1927.
Every application shall be accompanied by such declaration as may be required, and on being declared successful shall be completed by payment of a license fee of £1 ls.
Applicants must appear personally before the Auckland Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, on Wednesday, the 29th June, 1927, at 10.30 o'clock a.m.

If two or more applications are received in respect of one allotment of land, the Land Board may either determine which of the applicants in its opinion is most suitable to occupy the land, or may cause a ballot to be taken in accordance with the regulations for the time being in force relating to ballots under the Land Act. The decision of the Land Board either in regard to the suitability or otherwise of any applicant, the sufficiency of capital possessed by him, or any other matter connected with the allotment of any section, shall be final and conclusive.

Except on the recommendation of the Land Board and with the approval of the Minister, a single woman shall not be eligible to apply for these lands.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION.

The whole of the block is of a light pumicious nature, covered with a growth of scrub, manuka, rushes, and flax in swampy places, and some native tussock-grass; most of the land is undulating, with some flat terraces; . estimated ploughable area is indicated in description of each section. The land, generally speaking, is fairly watered by small running streams through marshy ground. Access to the block is by a good summer road, about twelve miles to Rotorua and eleven miles and a half to Ateamuri. All sections have frontages to formed or partly-formed roads,

DESCRIPTION OF SECTIONS.

Block XIV, Horohoro Survey District.
Section 3: Undulating, nearly all ploughable; watered by small streams originating from springs. Covered with fern and scrub and fronting on main road.
Section 4: Same remarks apply as in Section 3, with the exception that a portion is of rougher formation and more difficult to plough. This section is fronting on by-road.
Section 5: Easy to undulating, watered by small streams and flax swamp. About 80 per cent. ploughable. A few blackberries on south corner. Fronting main road.
Section 6: Fronting by-road. Poorly watered; fairly rough in front. Approximately 60 per cent. ploughable.
Section 7: Frontage to main road and by-road. Approximately 80 per cent. ploughable. Fairly well watered.
Section 9: Undulating and broken, about 50 per cent. ploughable. Well watered. By-road frontage.
Section 10: Some steep ridges, with terraces, mostly ploughable; well watered. Main road frontage.

Block I, Ngongotaha Survey District.
Section 5: Majority of this section is very broken. Consider one of the poorest sections in the block. Frontage to by-road.
Section 6: Practically level. Well watered. A few low ridges which are ploughable. Frontage to by-road.

Block II, Ngongotaha Survey District.
Section 1: Nearly all flat and ploughable; well watered; by-road frontage.
Section 2: Good section, practically level; small flax swamps; good water. Ninety per cent. ploughable. Fronting by-road.
Section 4: Same applies as in Section 2.
Section 6: Badly broken on road frontage by steep unploughable gullies; well watered by small streams, also bounded by Whirinaki Stream. About 60 per cent. ploughable. Frontage to by-road.
Section 7: Terraces and gullies. Watered by flax-swamps and Whirinaki Stream; about 70 per cent. ploughable. By-road frontage.
Section 8: High ridge through centre; watered by swamps and Whirinaki Stream. Approximately 80 per cent. ploughable. Long frontage to by-road.
Section 12: Badly cut up by steep gullies. Small area flat in front and back. Well watered; 50 per cent ploughable. Frontage to by-road.
Section 13: Broken in front by deep gullies; small frontage to by-road. About 70 per cent. ploughable.

Waitomo County.—Pakaumanu Survey District.

These sections are situated from ten to thirteen miles from Te Kuiti, eight miles of which is by metalled road, balance by formed road. The Rangitoto School is from five to eight miles distant. The soil, which rests on sandstone and rhyolite formation, is a loam varying from light quality on the open fern and scrub land to medium quality on the bush-clad areas. Each section is well watered by running streams.
Sections 1 and 2 are open hilly to broken country, in fern, manuka, and scrub; with rhyolite bluffs.
Section 3 comprises about 350 acres mixed bush, principally rimu, tawa, rata, and a few totara, with light undergrowth of supplejack, mahoe, and punga; balance open fern and scrub land.
Section 4 contains about 450 acres mixed bush, comprising rimu, tawa, rata, hinau, puketea, &c., with light undergrowth of supplejack, mahoe, punga, &c.; balance open fern and scrub country.

Abstract of Terms and Conditions of License.

  1. No rent or other charges shall be made in respect of the occupation of these lands.
  2. Every license shall be for a term of ten years, and may from time to time be renewed for a like term.
  3. No person shall, without the approval of the Minister or on the special recommendation of the Land Board, be qualified to acquire under these conditions more than 400 acres of second-class land or 1,000 acres of third-class land, computed in the manner prescribed by section 107 of the Land Act, 1924: Provided that in no case shall the area comprised in any license exceed 600 acres of second-class land or 1,500 acres of third-class land, computed as aforesaid,
