At a poll of the ratepayers of the whole inner area of the Otago Central Electric-power District, on 24th March, 1927, on a proposal to borrow a further £10,000, the following was the result of the voting :—
For the proposal, 128 votes; against the proposal, 6 votes. I declare that the proposal was carried.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Otorohanga County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1926.

OTOROHANGA COUNTY COUNCIL.
Pursuant to the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1926, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the County of Otorohanga was taken on the 29th day of March, 1927, on the proposal of the Otorohanga County Council to borrow the sum of £2,050 for forming, culverting, and metalling the
uncompleted portion of the Kawhia to Auckland-Wellington Main Highway within the Ngutunui Special-rating Area, a distance of seven miles and three-quarters, approximately, and the Otorohanga-Pirongia Road from end of present metalling to its junction with the Auckland-Wellington Main Highway, a further distance of two miles, approximately. The total distance of the proposed work is nine miles and three-quarters, approximately.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 25; against the proposal, Nil.
I therefore declare the proposal was carried.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, prohibiting the Sale within the Borough of Gisborne of certain Goods comprised in the Trade of a Tobacconist.
WHEREAS a petition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the tobacconists' shops within the Borough of Gisborne, has been forwarded to me, desiring that the sale of certain goods comprised in the trade of a tobacconist—namely, cigarettes, tobacco, and cigars—be prohibited during such time as the said shops are required to be closed in pursuance of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22 :
And whereas, I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the sale of the said goods is comprised in the trade of a tobacconist within the said district, and that the signatures to such petition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said district :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said Act, I do hereby direct that on and after the 2nd day of May, 1927, the sale of the said goods within the Borough of Gisborne shall be and is hereby prohibited as follows : With the exception of the working-day that first precedes Christmas Day, the working-day that first precedes New Year's Day, and the working-day that first precedes Anniversary Day for the Province of Auckland on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays after the hour of 6 p.m., and on Saturdays after the hour of 9 p.m.
The notice dated the 27th May, 1922, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 8th June, 1922, prohibiting the sale in the Borough of Gisborne of certain goods comprised in the trade of a tobacconist shall be and is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

Scheme of Control of Secondary Schools.

IN accordance with the provisions of the Education Act, 1914, and with the powers thereunder, I, Richard Francis Bollard, acting for the Minister of Education, do hereby, on the advice of the General Council of Education, amend the Scheme of Control of the Rotorua High School (published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 18 of the 31st March, 1927) by deleting therefrom the words “The Board of Governors of the Rotorua High School” wherever they occur, and substituting therefor the words, “The Rotorua High School Board.”

Schemes of Control of Secondary Schools.

IN accordance with the provisions of the Education Act, 1914, and with the powers thereunder, I, Robert Alexander Wright, Minister of Education, do hereby, on the advice of the General Council of Education, approve of the following amendment in the scheme of control for the Whangarei High School, as approved by the Minister of Education on the 10th July, 1914 :—
The definition of “a pupil of the school” in subclause (3) of clause 1 of this said scheme is hereby deleted, and the following substituted therefor :—
“‘A pupil of the school’ means a pupil whose name is on the school roll, and includes a pupil of the junior high school controlled by the Board, but does not include a pupil in any lower department.”
