SUMMARY FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY, 1927.

The first half of the month was generally warm and fair, some very high temperatures being recorded, particularly on the 7th, 13th, and 14th in the East Coast districts of both Islands. Some isolated rains occurred during this period, usually accompanying thunderstorms, but the most general rainfall was experienced about the 22nd and 27th. On both these occasions the disturbances were cyclones of moderate intensity, the centres of which passed in the neighbourhood of Cook Strait, and were associated with minor westerly depressions passing south of the Dominion. The cold snaps which followed were fortunately of short duration.

The total month's rainfall was above the average in most parts of Otago and in the northern and western portions of the North Island, but was deficient elsewhere.
