HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments in the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy:—

Lieutenant (E) Oswald John Gerard, R.N., to H.M.S. “Dunedin,” to date 3rd November, 1926.

Lieutenant Ernest William Reep, R.N., to H.M.S. “Philomel,” for duty in Trawler “Wakakura,” whilst on passage to New Zealand, and, on arrival in New Zealand, to H.M.S. “Dunedin,” as from date of joining.

Lieutenant Eric Alvington Addis, R.N., to H.M.S. “Philomel,” as from date of joining.

Mr. Alec Lee Hobden, Warrant Engineer, R.N., to H.M.S. “Dunedin,” to date 3rd November, 1926.

BOROUGH OF FEATHERSTON.

Notice of Result of Poll.

PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, I hereby give notice that at a poll of ratepayers of the Borough of Featherston, taken on the 13th day of October, 1926, on the proposal of the Featherston Borough Council to borrow the sum of two thousand pounds (£2,000) for street and footpath improvement and erecting a building,—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 52; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 36.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

BOROUGH OF HAWERA.

Nolantown Water-supply Loan, 1926.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of part of the Borough of Hawera—namely, the area described in the Schedule to Order in Council dated the 30th day of March, 1925, and published in the New Zealand Gazette dated the 2nd day of April, 1925, at page 967 (which area is known as Nolantown), taken on the 8th day of December, 1926, on the proposal of the Hawera Borough Council to borrow by way of special loan the sum of four thousand pounds (£4,000) for a term of thirty-six and a half (36½) years at a rate of interest of six pounds per centum per annum, plus a sinking fund of one pound per centum per annum, for the purpose of providing and laying water-pipes in Nolantown.

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 48; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 22; there were 3 informal votes.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Approval of Fees for Licensing of Vehicles fixed by By-laws.

IT is hereby notified, in accordance with section 109 of the Counties Act, 1920, that so much of the by-law made by the Makara County Council on the 13th day of August, 1924, as appoints the several sums to be paid to the county fund for the licensing of vehicles plying for hire has this day been approved by His Excellency the Governor-General.

Date of Election by Fire-insurance Companies to fill Extraordinary Vacancy on the Gisborne Fire Board.

PURSUANT to the Fire Brigades Act, 1908, and the rules made thereunder, I, Richard Francis Bollard, being the Minister charged with the administration of the said Act, do hereby appoint Thursday, the 13th January, 1927, to be the date for holding the election of one member of the Gisborne Fire Board by the fire-insurance companies concerned, such election being held to fill the extraordinary vacancy caused by the death of Mr. Ernest Adair.

Prohibition of Issue of Money-order and Transmission of Postal Correspondence in New Zealand for the Great Austral No. 4 (Limbless Soldiers) Art Union, Sydney.

THE Postmaster-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, having reasonable ground for supposing that the organizations and persons whose names and addresses are shown in the Schedule hereunder are engaged in promoting or carrying out a lottery or scheme of chance, it is hereby ordered, under section 28 of the Post and Telegraph Act, 1908, that no money-order in favour of the said organizations or persons shall be issued, and that no postal packet addressed to the said organisations or persons (either by their or his own or any fictitious or assumed name), or addressed to the address in the Schedule hereunder without a name, shall be either registered or forwarded by the Post Office of New Zealand.
