Notice of Intention to take Land for Scenic Purposes in Block V, Haparapara Survey District.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, the Scenery Preservation Act, 1908, and the Scenery Preservation Amendment Act, 1910, to take the land described in the Schedule hereto for scenic purposes:

And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Te Kaha, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

SCHEDULE.

APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land required to be taken: 25 acres.

Being portion of No. 43, Omaio Block, situated in Block V, Haparapara Survey District (Gisborne R.D.). (S.O. 1256, brown).

In the Gisborne Land District; as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 67280, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon edged pink.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, fixing the Closing-hours of Chemists’ Shops within the Borough of Mosgiel.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the chemists’ shops within the Borough of Mosgiel, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops within the said borough be closed in the evening of working-days as follows—on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 8.30 p.m. and on Fridays at 9 p.m.: Provided that, should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe Saturday in lieu of Thursday as the statutory closing-day, then he may keep his shop open until 8.30 p.m. on Thursday in lieu of Saturday.

And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, I do hereby direct that on and after the 3rd day of January, 1927, all the chemists’ shops within the Borough of Mosgiel shall be closed accordingly.

The notice dated the 3rd July, 1912, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 4th July, 1912, fixing the closing-hours of chemists and druggists’ shops in the Borough of Mosgiel is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, prohibiting the Sale within the Borough of Whakatane of certain Goods comprised in the Trade of a Hairdresser and Tobacconist.

WHEREAS pursuant to section 32 (5) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, His Excellency the Governor-General has by Order in Council dated the 1st September, 1924, grouped the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist, commonly carried on together within the Borough of Whakatane as the trade of hairdresser and tobacconist:

And whereas a petition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the hairdressers and tobacconists’ shops within the said borough, has been forwarded to me, desiring that the sale of certain goods comprised in the trade of a hairdresser and tobacconist—namely, cigarettes, tobacco, and cigars—be prohibited during such time as the said shops are required to be closed in pursuance of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22:

And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the sale of the said goods is comprised in the trade of a hairdresser and tobacconist within the said borough, and that the signatures to such petition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said Act, I do hereby direct that on and after the 3rd day of January, 1927, the sale of the said goods within the Borough of Whakatane shall be and is hereby prohibited as follows—on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, after the hour of 6 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays after the hour of 10.30 p.m., with the exception that on the working-day that first precedes Christmas Day and on the working-day that first precedes New Year’s Day the sale of the said goods is not prohibited.

The notice dated the 9th September, 1924, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of 11th September, 1924, prohibiting the sale in the Borough of Whakatane of certain goods comprised in the trade of a hairdresser and tobacconist is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

Authorizing the Laying-off of a Road of less Width than 66 ft.

WHEREAS in the opinion of the Minister of Lands it is inexpedient, by reason of the fact that the land shown upon the plan of Town of New Lynn Extension No. 78, affecting part Allotments 12 and 27, Waikomiti Parish, and prepared by Charles Herbert Jackson, Licensed Surveyor, is intended to be used wholly for residential purposes, that the road shown therein (Tawini Road) should be of the width of 66 ft.:

Now, therefore, I, Alexander Donald McLeod, Minister of Lands, do hereby, in pursuance of the power conferred upon me by section 17, subsection (1) of the Land Act, 1924, and of every other power me thereunto enabling, authorize the laying-off of such road of a width of 40 ft.: Provided always that it shall not be lawful for any person to erect or cause to be erected any building at a less distance than 33 ft. from the middle of such road.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Tariff Commission appointed to report on the revision of the Customs Tariff will commence its sittings at the Customs-house at Auckland at 11 a.m. on 18th January, 1927, for the purpose of taking evidence from any person in the Auckland district desiring to make representations respecting the Customs Tariff.

It is desired that persons intending to appear should previously notify the Chairman of the Tariff Commission at the above-mentioned address, and should arrange with the Collector of Customs, Auckland, as to the time at which the evidence will be heard.
