Appointment of Members of Island Council, Cook Islands.
Cook Islands Department,
Wellington, 5th October, 1925.
H IS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to make the following appointments under section 65 of the Cook Islands Act, 1915 :—
Paparonga, of the district of Kimiangatau, to be a member of the Island Council of Mauke, in lieu of Torea, resigned, as from 2nd day of October, 1925.
Moeau, of the district of Areroa, to be a member of the Island Council of Mauke, in lieu of Anaupo, resigned, as from the 30th day of September, 1925.
Muri, of the district of Maketea, to be a member of the Island Council of Mauke, in lieu of Tipapa, resigned, as from the 30th day of September, 1925.
Aerepo Pokino, of the district of Tamarua, to be a member of the Island Council of Mangaia, in lieu of Pauteao, deceased, as from the 2nd day of October, 1925.

Results of Polls for Proposed Loans.
Wellington, 30th September, 1925.
THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Patea, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913.

PATEA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
On Wednesday, 23rd September, 1925, the undermentioned loan proposals were submitted to the ratepayers of this borough :—
Loan of £2,000 (for the formation and improvement of various streets and footways in the Borough of Patea, including the purchase of necessary plant for such work)—
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 79 ; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 64 ; informal votes, 6.
Loan of £1,100 (for increasing the efficiency of the borough water-supply)—
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 107 ; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 33 ; informal votes, 9.
Loan of £3,000 (for extensions to the electric-lighting system including the purchase of an additional generating-unit)—
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 88 ; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 56 ; informal votes, 5.
I therefore declare the three proposals to be carried.

Results of Polls for Proposed Loans.

THE following notices, received from the Chairman of the Council of the County of Marlborough, are published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913.

MARLBOROUGH BOROUGH COUNCIL.
PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the County of Marlborough taken on the 19th day of September, 1925, on the proposal of the Marlborough County Council to borrow the sum of £5,000 sterling for the purpose of building new bridges and renewing existing county bridges,—
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 759 ; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 480 ; informal, 13.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.
Pursuant to section 12 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the County of Marlborough taken on the 19th day of September, 1925, on the proposal of the Marlborough County Council to borrow the sum of £10,000 sterling for the purpose of purchasing roadmaking machinery and plant and erection of necessary buildings and whares,—
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 811 ; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 439 ; informal, 2.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.
Wellington, 1st October, 1925.
THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Council of the County of Marlborough, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913.

MARLBOROUGH COUNTY COUNCIL.
PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the County of Marlborough taken on the 19th day of September, 1925, on the proposal of the Marlborough County Council to borrow the sum of £3,000 sterling for the purpose of laying down a grouted road for one mile on the Springlands Section of the Blenheim-Nelson Main Highway, and for two miles on the Opawa Bridge-Ferry Bridge Section of the Blenheim Picton Main Highway,—
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 528 ; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 714 ; informal, 10.
I therefore declare that the proposal was rejected.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Bluff, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913.

BLUFF BOROUGH COUNCIL.
PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Bluff taken on the 16th day of September, 1925, on the proposal of the Bluff Borough Council to borrow the sum of £2,000 for the purpose of completing the reconstruction of the electrical reticulation of the borough and for carrying out any extensions to street-service lines that may be necessary, together with the acquiring and erection and construction of all plant, tools, equipment, instruments, material, labour, and all other things which shall be required for or in respect of the purpose for which the loan is to be raised,—
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 291 ; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 35 ; informal votes, 1.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Thames, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913.

BOROUGH OF THAMES.
PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Thames taken on the 28th day of September, 1925, on the proposal of the Thames Borough Council to borrow the sum of £5,000 for the following purposes :—
(a.) To complete and fully establish the Wai- otahi Quarry, and construction of tramways in connection therewith and to provide and install suitable plant and machinery in connection with such quarry and tramways . . 3,196 16 3
(b.) To repay moneys already advanced from and paid out of Thames Borough District Fund Account in establishment and equipment of Waiotahi Quarry and Tramways . . . . . 1,803 3 9
