Notice as to Areas in Otago and Southland Land Districts
declared to be Fire Districts.

State Forest Service,
Wellington, 29th December, 1924.
PURSUANT to section 27 of the Forests Act, 1921–22,
I do hereby notify that, on the recommendations of
the Director of Forestry and the Land Boards of the districts,
the areas described in the Schedule hereto are hereby declared
by me to be fire districts; and I do further specify the period
from the 15th day of November, in any year to the 15th day
of April in the following year (inclusive), as the period during
which it shall not be lawful for any person within the said
districts, save pursuant to the written permit of a forest
officer, to set on fire, or cause to be set on fire, any timber
(whether standing or not), or any undergrowth, or any debris
from forest operations or land-clearing operations, or any
grass or other specially inflammable material without taking
such precautions as may be prescribed by a forest officer.

SCHEDULE.
OTAGO LAND DISTRICT.—RIMU FOREST FIRE DISTRICT.
Total Area, 107,300 acres.
Portion I.
All that area in the Otago Land District situated in Blocks
I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII, XIII, and
XIV, Rimu Survey District; Blocks I, V, VI, and VII,
Catlins Survey District; Block V, Woodland Survey District;
and Blocks I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, X, XI, XII,
XIII, and XIV, Tautuku Survey District; in the Clutha
County; bounded generally as follows:—
Commencing at the north-west corner at the point of inter-
section of the south bank of the Taukupu River with the
Southland-Otago Land District boundary, and running in an
easterly direction generally by a right line parallel to the
northern boundary of Provisional State Forest No. 37 (New
Zealand Gazette, 1921, page 2617) to the bush edge; thence
by the bush edge north of Athlone Hill and south of Catlins
Cone to a point 40 chains from the most northerly point of
Provisional State Forest No. 37, and continuing in an easterly
direction generally by a line parallel to and 40 chains from
the northern boundary of the aforesaid provisional State
forest to its intersection with Catlins River; thence due
north to the bush edge, Block VI, Catlins Survey District;
thence by the bush edge to the western boundary of Section
10, Block VI, Catlins Survey District; thence in a south-
easterly direction by the said boundary to a public road;
thence crossing the road to the north-east corner of Section 5,
Block VI, Catlins Survey District; thence in a south-easterly
direction generally by a road forming the north-eastern
boundary of Sections 5 and 6, Block VI, and of Section 11,
Block V, Catlins Survey District; thence in a south-westerly
direction along the south-east boundary of the aforesaid
Section 11 to a public road; thence across and by that road
to the north-eastern corner of Section 5, Block V aforesaid;
thence by the eastern boundary of the last-mentioned section
and in an easterly direction generally by the northern bound-
aries of Sections 3 and 12, Block V, and Section 16, Block VII,
Catlins Survey District; thence in a north-easterly direc-
tion generally by a public road and the western boundary
of Section 19, Block VII aforesaid, to another public road;
thence by that road to the south-west corner of Section 22,
Block VII aforesaid; thence by the western and northern
boundaries of the aforesaid Section 22, and the western
boundary of Section 21, Block VII, Catlins Survey District;
across and by a road to another public road and by that road
to a closed road; thence in a south-easterly direction generally
along the southern side of the closed road to the north-east
corner of Section 36, Block I, Catlins Survey District; thence
in a southerly direction generally to the south-west corner of
Section 47, Block I aforesaid; thence by the south-western
boundary of the said Section 47 and the south-eastern and
south-western boundaries of Section 46, Block I aforesaid,
to a public road; thence crossing the road and in a
south-westerly direction generally by the south-eastern
boundary of Section 57, Block I aforesaid, to a point
in line with the north-eastern boundary of Section 58,
Block I aforesaid; thence by the north-eastern, southern,
and western boundaries of that section to the south-
east corner of Section 4, Block VII, Catlins Survey
District; thence in a westerly direction generally by the
southern boundary of the said Section 4; thence crossing a
public road and by the northern edge of that road to a point
in line with the eastern boundary of Section 7, Block VII
aforesaid; thence by the eastern and southern boundaries
of Section 7 aforesaid, across a road, and the southern and
western boundaries of Section 11, Block VII aforesaid;
thence in a northerly direction to the south-east corner of
Section 14, Block VII aforesaid; thence by the southern

boundary of that section and the eastern boundary of Section
1, Block V, Catlins Survey District, to the Catlins River;
thence crossing the aforesaid river; thence in a south-easterly
direction generally along the northern and eastern boundaries
of Section 8, Block V, Woodland Survey District, across a
public road, by the northern and eastern boundaries of
Section 6, Block V aforesaid; again, crossing a road, by
the northern, eastern, and southern boundaries of Section 17A
and the eastern boundary of Section 18, Block V aforesaid,
to a public road; thence by the northern side of the afore-
said road to a road-junction at the north-east corner of
Section 1, Block V, Woodland Survey District; thence,
crossing the road, along the eastern and southern boundaries
of the said Section 1; thence by the eastern and south-
western boundaries of Section 29, Block XIV, Rimu Survey
District; and, crossing a road, by the southern boundary
of Section 31 and the south-eastern and southern bound-
aries of Section 32, Block XIV, Rimu Survey District;
thence due south across the Maclennan River and its
riparian reserves to the northern boundary of Section 19,
Block XIV, Rimu Survey District; thence by the northern
and western boundaries of the aforesaid Section 19; and
thence by the north-eastern and north-western boundaries
of Section 9, Block XIV, Rimu Survey District; thence
by the north-western boundary of Section 8, Block XIV
aforesaid; across and by a public road to the south-
western boundary of Section 9, Block XIII, Rimu Survey
District; thence by the last-mentioned boundary and the
eastern boundaries of Sections 7 and 19, Block IX, Rimu
Survey District, to the river-bank reserves of the Tahakopa
River; thence, crossing the aforesaid river and its reserves
to the northern boundary of Section 1, Block II, Tautuku
Survey District, in an easterly direction generally by the
last-mentioned boundary to a public road, and in a southerly
direction generally by the aforesaid public road and across
another public road to the north-west corner of Section 6,
Block III, Tautuku Survey District; thence in a south-
easterly direction generally by the northern boundaries of
Sections 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12, Block III aforesaid,
and Sections 16, 18, 21, 22, and 24, Block IV, Tautuku
Survey District; thence in a southerly direction generally by
the eastern boundary of Section 24 and the north-eastern
boundaries of Section 30 to a public road and the eastern
boundaries of Sections 7 and 6, Block IV, Tautuku Survey
District; thence in a westerly direction generally by the
southern boundaries of Sections 6 and 5, Block IV aforesaid;
thence, across a public road, by the northern boundary of
Section 24, Block VIII, Tautuku Survey District; thence by
the western boundary of Section 28, across a public road,
the southern boundary of Section 34, by the eastern and
southern boundaries of Section 33, the southern boundary of
Section 32, and the southern and western boundaries of Sec-
tion 31, and the southern and western boundaries of Section 37,
all of Block VIII, Tautuku Survey District; thence crossing a
public road and the Fleming River with its reserves on both
banks to the south-eastern corner of Section 11, Block VIII,
Tautuku Survey District; thence by the southern boundaries
of Sections 11, 9, and 8, Block VIII aforesaid, and Section
21, Block X, Tautuku Survey District, to the south-east
corner of Section 20, Block X aforesaid; thence by the left
bank reserve of the Tautuku River to the shores of an affluent
creek which flows more or less centrally through Section 20,
Block X, Tautuku Survey District; thence in a southerly
direction generally across the Tautuku River and its riparian
reserves, and across the Riverside Road, to the north-east
corner of Section 3, Block X, Tautuku Survey District;
thence by the whole of the eastern boundary of the aforesaid
Section 3; thence in a westerly direction generally by the
southern boundary of the aforesaid Section 3 and across the
Hukihuki Road at its junction with the Pokuku Road;
thence across the Pokuku Road and by the Hukihuki Road
to the south-east corner of Section 5 (scenic reserve), Block X,
Tautuku Survey District; thence by the southern bound-
ary of the aforesaid Section 5; thence across the Waipati
Beach to the northern end of the bridge across the Waipati
Estuary; thence in a south-easterly direction generally across
the estuary and the estuary bank reserve to the north-
east corner of Section 2, Block XIV, Tautuku Survey District;
thence by the eastern and southern boundaries of the afore-
said Section 2 and the southern and western boundaries
of Section 6, Block XIII, Tautuku Survey District, to
the Potiki Road; across the aforesaid road, and by the
western boundary of Section 10 (road reserve), Block XIII
aforesaid, across the Waipati Road and the Waipati River
and its riparian reserves; thence by the reserve on the left
bank of the last-mentioned river to the north-western corner
of the aforesaid Section 6; thence in an easterly direction
generally by the north-western and eastern boundaries of
the said Section 6 the northern boundary of Section 21,
across a public road, by the northern boundary of Section 20,
the eastern boundaries of Sections 19 and 16, Block XI,
