Alteration to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.

IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under the Government Railways Act, 1908, and its amendments, I, Joseph Gordon Coates, Minister of Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand Government Railways open for traffic:—
PART IV.—GOODS—LOCAL RATES.
Whangarei—Kawakawa Section.
By omitting the following paragraph:—
“Except otherwise specified, goods of Classes A, B, C, D, and H will be charged as Class A, at weight or measurement, as the Department may direct.”
And substituting the following:—
“Except otherwise specified, goods of Classes A, B, C, D, and H to or from ships at Onerahi or Opua will be charged as Class A, at weight or measurement, as the Department may direct.”
By adding the following:—
“North Island Main Line and Branches.
“On and after 1st January, 1925, casein consigned from Aramoho to Wellington will be charged 32s. 4d. per ton.”

Notice fixing the Scale of Charges with respect to the Waikokopu Wharf on the Waikokopu Harbour.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 12 of the Public Works Amendment Act, 1923, I, Joseph Gordon Coates, Minister of Public Works, do hereby fix the scale of charges for the use of the Waikokopu Railway Wharf on the Waikokopu Harbour as set forth in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.
Berthage.

  1. (a.) For each time a vessel is berthed alongside the said wharf, a berthage charge of 2d. per ton net register per day or part of a day, shall be paid by the master, agent, or owner of such vessel on demand, to the Department’s Collector: Provided that the minimum charge shall in no case be less than 1s. 6d. per day.
    (b.) Provided also that such payment shall not exceed 10s. per quarter of a year for a vessel of not more than 10 tons, £1 per quarter of a year for a vessel of not more than 20 tons, or £1 10s. per quarter of a year for a vessel over 20 tons and not more than 30 tons, if such payment be made in advance on the quarter days, commencing as from the 1st day of January, April, July, and October of each year, at the office of the Collector.
    (c.) The master, owner, or agents of any vessel, or vessels licensed as lighters shall, whilst such vessel or vessels are actually employed at lighterage within the Port of Waikokopu, pay the sum of 2s. 6d. per trip upon each and every trip to the said wharf as a berthage rate; provided that this charge shall be paid whether any such vessel as aforesaid shall lie alongside of the said wharf or outside another vessel berthed at the said wharf: Provided also that no fee shall be paid by any boat used merely as a tow-boat and carries no cargo while towing.
    (d.) No berthage charge shall be payable for Sunday, unless goods or live-stock are loaded or discharged, and the vessel leaves on that day.
    (e.) The master of every vessel shall, on demand, produce the certificate of registry of such vessel to the Collector or other person appointed by the Department to collect this charge.

Water-supply to Shipping.
2. The following charges shall be payable by the owner, master, or agent of any vessel for water supplied to such vessel:—
For domestic purposes, per 250 gallons or fraction thereof s. d.
For marine boilers, per 250 gallons or fraction thereof 1 3
Minimum charge in all cases .. .. .. 2 3

Hawsers and Moorings.
3. Vessels at the said wharf will be charged five-sixteenths of a penny per ton per day or part of a day on their registered tonnage for the use of hawsers supplied by the Department.

Fenders.
4. Vessels at the said wharf will be charged for fenders, where same are supplied by the Department, at the following rates at per day or part of a day, and it will be at the option of the Harbourmaster to say where fenders shall be used, and also as to what class of fenders he considers suitable.

Storage.
5. On all imports and exports, forty-eight hours free storage will be allowed: After that time 1s. per ton per week, or part of a week, will be charged. Minimum charge, 3d.

Wharfage.
6. Any person who shall use the said wharf for the purpose of landing goods thereon, or of shipping any goods, shall pay as wharf dues on such goods a wharfage rate according to the following scale. It shall be at the option of the Wharfinger on behalf of the Department to charge in respect to general cargo according to weight or measurement and if he think fit to disregard the weight or measure mentioned in the manifest.
