Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Palmerston North, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

PALMERSTON NORTH BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Result of Poll on Proposal to raise Special Loan.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that on Friday, the 2nd day of May, 1924, a poll was taken of the ratepayers of the Borough of Palmerston North upon a proposal to raise a special loan of £35,000 for the purpose of completing the power-house station and reticulation within the borough, the result of the voting being as follows :—

For the proposal, 325 ; against the proposal, 142 ; informal, 2.

I therefore declare that the above proposal was duly carried.

EKETAHUNA COUNTY COUNTY.

Results of Polls on Proposals to raise Loans.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the Pah Valley Special-rating Area was taken on the 27th day of May, 1924, on the proposal of the Ekatahuna County Council to borrow the sum of £1,850 for the purpose of re-forming and metalling Pah Valley Road.

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 80, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 8.

I therefore declare the proposal carried.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the Barton’s Line Special-rating Area was taken on the 27th day of May, 1924, on the proposal of the Ekatahuna County Council to borrow the sum of £750 for the purpose of re-forming and metalling Barton’s Line.

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 77, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 11.

I therefore declare the proposal carried.

BOROUGH OF HAMILTON.

Sewer-drainage Loan, £26,800.

PURSUANT to the provisions of the Local Elections and Polls Act, 1908, the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, and their amendments, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Hamilton taken on the 22nd day of May, 1924, on the proposal to borrow the sum of £26,800, for making and constructing sewer-drains and drainage-works in the Borough of Hamilton, including the purchase of all necessary land, materials, plant, and tools, and payments for labour, engineer’s fees, plans, and supervision, and compensation to owners of property in respect of such sewer-drainage works,—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 935 ; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 509 ; informal, 49 : total number of votes, 1,493.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Streets Loan of £70,000.

PURSUANT to the provisions of the Local Elections and Polls Act, 1908, the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, and their amendments, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Hamilton taken on the 22nd day of May, 1924, on the proposal to borrow the sum of £70,000 for the purchase of bitumen plant, roller, sprayer, heating-pots, and other plant and appliances for laying down bitumen roads (£2,000), for laying down and constructing a bituminous or concrete carriageway from the junction of London Street with Victoria Street, along London Street, Norton Road, Commerce Street, and High Street, to the junction of High Street with Hall Street, including all labour and material (£18,000), for forming and improving streets in Hamilton, including laying down and constructing bituminous carriageways and footways and the purchase of road-metal for such purposes, and all labour and material (£50,000),—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 993 ; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 456 ; informal, 44 : total number of votes, 1,493.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Baths Loan of £6,800.

PURSUANT to the provisions of the Local Elections and Polls Act, 1908, the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, and their amendments, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Hamilton taken on the 22nd day of May, 1924, on the proposal to borrow the sum of £6,800, to make, erect, and fit a swimming-bath with dressing-rooms, waiting-rooms, and conveniences for bathers, and offices for a caretaker on the piece of land in Norton Road, Frankton, known as Lot 235 of Allotment 1, Te Rapa (£5,500), for improvements and additions to the swimming-bath in Victoria Street, Hamilton (£1300),—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 454 ; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 987 ; informal, 52 : total number of votes, 1,493.

I therefore declare that the proposal was lost.

Trade Effluent Loan of £12,350.

PURSUANT to the provisions of the Local Elections and Polls Act, 1908, the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, and their amendments, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Hamilton taken on the 22nd day of May, 1924, on the proposal to borrow the sum of £12,350, for making and constructing a pipe-line or sewer-drain for trade waste and effluents from septic tanks in or adjacent to the Waitawhiriwhiri Stream, including the cost of all labour, supervision, and materials,—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 666 ; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 769 ; informal, 58 : total number of votes, 1,493.

I therefore declare that the proposal was lost.

Offices Loan of £25,000.

PURSUANT to the provisions of the Local Elections and Polls Act, 1908, the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, and their amendments, I hereby given notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Hamilton taken on the 22nd day of May, 1924, on the proposal to borrow the sum of £25,000, for erecting, constructing, fitting, and furnishing a building in Ward Street, on Allotment 453A, Hamilton West, for holding the meetings and transacting the business of the Hamilton Borough Council and for the use of its officers and servants, including all necessary materials, labour, fittings, furniture, architect’s fees, plans, and supervision,—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 347 ; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 1,078 ; informal, 68 : total number of votes, 1,493.

I therefore declare that the proposal was lost.

Bridge Loan of £50,000.

PURSUANT to the provisions of the Local Elections and Polls Act, 1908, the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, and their amendments, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Hamilton taken on the 22nd day of May, 1924, on the proposal to borrow the sum of £50,000, for the erection and construction of a traffic-bridge in concrete over the Waikato River at Bryce Street with street-approaches thereto, including (a) all necessary materials and labour, (b) the cost of preliminary plans and surveys, and of supervising the work, (c) the purchase of any necessary land, and (d) compensation to land-owners and others in respect of the construction of the works,—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 403 ; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 1,030 ; informal, 60 : total number of votes, 1,493.

I therefore declare that the proposal was lost.
