Declaring Public Highways in the No. 9 Highway District
to be Main Highways.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this 9th day
of June, 1924.
Present:
THE HONOURABLE SIR FRANCIS BELL PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
vested in him by section three of the Main Highways
Act, 1922, and of all other powers in anywise enabling him
in this behalf, His Excellency the Governor-General of the
Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice
and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion,
doth hereby declare that on and after the date of this Order
in Council the public highways mentioned in the Schedule
hereto shall be main highways within the meaning and for
the purpose of the Main Highways Act, 1922.
SCHEDULE.
HIGHWAY DISTRICT No. 9.
WELLINGTON-Auckland Road via Taranaki: All that portion
of the road known as the Wellington-Auckland Road via
Taranaki, commencing at the junction of the Ngahauranga
and Hutt Roads, and proceeding thence generally in a north-
easterly direction via Johnsonville, Porirua, Pahautanui,
Paekakariki, Waikanae, Otaki, Levin, Foxton, Sanson, and
terminating at the Rangitikei River on the western boundary
of the County of Manawatu, passing through the Counties of
Makara, Hutt, Horowhenua, and Manawatu, but excluding
those portions of the road within the Boroughs of Levin and
Foxton, being a distance of ninety-three miles, more or less.
Wellington-Napier Road via Wairarapa: All that portion
of the road known as the Wellington-Napier Road via
Wairarapa, commencing at the northern boundary of the
Lower Hutt Borough and proceeding thence generally in
a north-easterly direction via Trentham, Upper Hutt, Kaitoke,
and terminating at the summit of the Rimutaka Range,
passing through the Counties of Makara and Hutt, being a
distance of 21 miles 50 chains, more or less.
Himitangi-Sanson (via Palmerston North): All that road
known as the Himitangi-Sanson (via Palmerston North)
Road commencing at its junction with the Wellington-
Auckland Road via Taranaki, and proceeding thence generally
in an easterly and north-westerly direction via Oroua Bridge,
Longburn, Palmerston North, Awahuri, and terminating at
its junction with the Wellington-Auckland Road via Taranaki
at Sanson, passing through the Counties of Manawatu, Kai-
ranga, and Manawatu, but excluding that portion of the road
in the Borough of Palmerston North, being a distance of
31 miles 38 chains, more or less.
Palmerston North-Napier Road: All that portion of the
road known as the Palmerston North-Napier Road, com-
mencing at the northern boundary of Palmerston Borough
and proceeding thence generally in a north-easterly direction,
and terminating at the eastern boundary of the County of
Oroua, passing through the Counties of Kairanga and Oroua,
being a distance of 8 miles 14 chains, more or less.
Awahuri-Greatford, via Feilding: All that portion of the
road known as the Awahuri-Greatford Road via Feilding,
commencing at its junction with the Himitangi-Sanson Road
via Palmerston North and proceeding thence generally in a
northerly and north-westerly direction, and terminating at
the western bouhdary of the Oroua County at Kakariki,
passing through the Counties of Manawatu and Oroua, but
excluding that portion of the road in the Borough of Feilding,
being a distance of sixteen miles, more or less.
Feilding-Ashurst, via Bunnythorpe: All that road known
as the Feilding-Ashurst Road via Bunnythorpe, commencing
at the southern boundary of the Borough of Feilding, proceeding
thence generally in an easterly direction via Bunnythorpe
and Ashurst, terminating at its junction with the Palmerston
North-Napier Road, passing through the Counties of Manawatu, Kairanga, and Oroua, being a distance of 13 miles
40 chains, more or less.
Foxton-Shannon : All that portion of the road known as
the Foxton-Shannon Road, commencing at the eastern
boundary of the Borough of Foxton and proceeding thence
generally in a south-easterly direction via Moutoa, and ter-
minating at the western boundary of the Borough of Shannon,
passing through the Counties of Manawatu and Horowhenua,
being a distance of nine miles, more or less.
Ashhurst-Pohangina : All that portion of the road known
as the Ashhurst-Pohangina Road, commencing at the junction
with the Feilding-Ashhurst Road and proceeding thence
generally in a northerly direction via Rauma, and terminating
at the Post-office, Pohangina, passing through the Counties
of Oroua and Pohangina, being a distance of ten miles, more
or less.
Feilding-Mangaweka (via Kimbolton): All that portion
of the road known as the Feilding-Mangaweka (via Kimbolton)
Road, commencing at the northern boundary of the Borough
of Feilding and .proceeding thence generally in a northerly
direction via Cheltenham, Kimbolton, Rangiwahia, and
terminating at the western boundary of the Kiwitea County
at the Rangitikei River, passing through the Counties of
Oroua and Kiwitea, being a distance of forty-seven miles,
more or less.
Feilding-Stanway (via Makino): All that road known as
the Feilding-Stanway (via Makino) Road, commencing at
the western boundary of the Borough of Feilding and proceed-
ing thence generally in a northerly direction, and terminating
at its junction with Wilson's Line Road, passing through the
County of Oroua, being a distance of nine miles, more or less.
Kimbolton-Apiti : All that portion of the road known as
the Kimbolton-Apiti Road, commencing at its junction
with the Feilding-Mangaweka Road near Kimbolton pro-
ceeding thence generally in a north-easterly direction, and
terminating at the post-office at Apiti, passing through the
Counties of Kiwitea and Pohangina, being a distance of
ten miles, more or less.
Mount Stewart Road : All that road known as the Mount
Stewart Road, commencing at its junction with the Himitangi-
Sanson (via Palmerston North) Road, and proceeding thence
generally in an easterly direction to its junction with the
Awahuri-Greatford Road via Feilding, passing through the
County of Manawatu, being a distance of 1 mile 60 chains,
more or less.
Levin-Palmerston North (via Shannon): All that road
known as the Levin-Palmerston North (via Shannon) Road,
commencing at the eastern boundary of the Borough of Levin
and proceeding thence generally in a north-easterly direction
via Shannon, Tokomaru, Linton, and Fitzherbert Bridge,
terminating at the southern boundary of the Borough of
Palmerston North, passing through the Counties of Horo-
whenua and Kairanga, but excluding those portions of the
road in the Boroughs of Levin and Shannon, being a distance
of 28 miles 20 chains, more or less.

on the plan marked M.H. 50, deposited in the office of the
Main Highways Board, at Wellington, in the Wellington
Land District, and thereon coloured blue.
