of the Borough of New Plymouth and proceeding thence generally in a south-easterly direction via Egmont Village, Inglewood, and terminating at the junction with the Kaimata Road, passing through the Counties of Taranaki and Inglewood, being a distance of 14 miles 30 chains, more or less.

Upper Egmont Road: All that road known as the Upper Egmont Road, commencing at its junction with the New Plymouth–Kaimata Road at Egmont Village, and proceeding thence generally in a southerly direction, and terminating at the boundary of the Mount Egmont National Park at the point known as the Radius-line, passing through the County of Inglewood, being a distance of 5 miles 60 chains, more or less.

Ohura Road: All that portion of the road known as the Ohura Road, commencing at the eastern boundary of the Borough of Stratford, and proceeding thence generally in a north-easterly direction via Toko, Douglas, Strathmore, Pohokura, Whangamomona, Kohuratahi, Tahora, and terminating at the western boundary of the County of Ohura, passing through the Counties of Stratford and Whangamomona, being a distance of 62 miles 30 chains, more or less.

Eltham–Opunake: All that portion of the road known as the Eltham–Opunake Road, commencing at the western boundary of the County of Eltham and proceeding thence generally in a westerly direction via Punehu and Te Kiri, and terminating at its junction with the Lepperton Junction–Hawera (via Opunake) Road near Opunake, passing through the County of Egmont, being a distance of 10 miles 50 chains, more or less.

Manaiā–Mount Egmont: All that portion of the road known as the Manaiā–Mount Egmont Road, commencing at its junction with the Lepperton Junction–Hawera Road via New Plymouth and Opunake at Manaiā, and proceeding thence generally in a northerly direction via Kapuna and Kaponga, and terminating at the boundary of the Mount Egmont National Park at a point known as the Radius-line, passing through the Counties of Waimate West, Eltham, and Stratford, being a distance of 14 miles 10 chains, more or less.

Stratford–Opunake: All that portion of the road known as the Stratford–Opunake Road, commencing at the western boundary of the Borough of Stratford and proceeding thence generally in a westerly direction via Cardiff and Mahoe to its junction with the Manaiā–Mount Egmont Road, passing through the County of Stratford, being a distance of 8 miles 20 chains, more or less.

Normanby–Okaiawa: All that road known as the Normanby–Okaiawa Road, commencing at its junction with the Auckland–Wellington via Taranaki Road in the Normanby Town District, and proceeding thence generally in a westerly direction and terminating at Okaiawa Post-office, passing through the County of Hawera, being a distance of 4 miles 20 chains, more or less.

As the said public highways are more particularly delineated on the plan marked M.H. 28, deposited in the office of the Main Highways Board at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon coloured blue.

Declaring Public Highways in the No. 8 Highway District to be Main Highways.

At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this 9th day of June, 1924.

Present:

THE HONOURABLE SIR FRANCIS BELL PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him by section three of the Main Highways Act, 1922, and of all other powers in anywise enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby declare that on and after the date of this Order in Council the public highways mentioned in the Schedule hereto shall be main highways within the meaning and for the purpose of the Main Highways Act, 1922.

SCHEDULE.

HIGHWAY DISTRICT NO. 8.

Auckland–Wellington, via Taranaki: All that portion of the road known as the Auckland–Wellington Road via Taranaki, commencing at the Manawapou River Bridge at southern boundary of Hawera County and proceeding thence generally in a southerly direction via Manutahi, Kakaramea, Patea, Waverley, Waitotara, Kai-iwi, Wanganui Borough, No. 1 Line, Wangaehu, Turakina, Bull’s, and terminating at the Rangitikei County, passing through the Counties of Patea, Waitotara, Wanganui, and Rangitikei, but excluding all those portions of the road in the Boroughs of Patea and Wanganui, and including all those portions in the Town Districts of Waverley and Bull’s, being a distance of 75 miles 5 chains, more or less.

Wanganui–Horopito: All that portion of the road known as the Wanganui–Horopito Road, commencing at the north-eastern boundary of the Borough of Wanganui and proceeding thence generally in a northerly direction via Makirikiri, Aberfeldy, Parapara, Raetihi, and terminating at the Township of Horopito on the Bull’s–Taurarunui Road, passing through the Counties of Wanganui and Waimarino, and excluding all those portions in the Boroughs of Wanganui and Raetihi, being a distance of sixty-four miles, more or less.

Bull’s–Taurarunui: All that portion of the road known as the Bull’s–Taurarunui Road, commencing at its junction with the Auckland–Wellington Road via Taranaki in the Town District of Bull’s and proceeding thence generally in a north-easterly and north-westerly direction via Greatford, Rata, Hunterville, Mangaonoho, Ohingaiti, Mangaweka, Utiku, Taihape, Moehau, Turangarere, Waiouru, Karioi, Rangataua, Ohakune, Horopito, and terminating at the southern boundary of the Kaitieke County at the Manganui-a-te-Ao River, passing through the Counties of Rangitikei and Waimarino, but excluding all those portions of the road in the Boroughs of Taihape and Ohakune, and including all those portions in the Town Districts of Bull’s, Hunterville, Rangataua, and Mangaweka, being a distance of 103 miles 10 chains, more or less.

Mangaweka–Feilding: All that portion of the Mangaweka–Feilding Road, commencing at the junction with the Bull’s–Taurarunui Road and proceeding thence in an easterly direction and terminating at the eastern boundary of the Rangitikei County, all being in the Mangaweka Town District, being a distance of one mile, more or less.

Taihape–Napier: All that portion of the Taihape–Napier Road, commencing at the junction with the Bull’s–Taurarunui Road to the north of Taihape and proceeding thence generally in a northerly direction via Wainui, and terminating at the Post-office, Moawhango, passing through the Rangitikei County, being a distance of eight miles, more or less.

Raetihi–Ohakune: All that road known as the Raetihi–Ohakune Road, commencing at the eastern boundary of the Borough of Raetihi and proceeding thence generally in an easterly direction, and terminating at the northern boundary of the Borough of Ohakune, passing through Waimarino County, being a distance of 5 miles 60 chains, more or less.

Ball Road: All that portion of road known as Ball Road, commencing at junction with Auckland–Wellington Road via Taranaki and proceeding thence generally in a north-easterly direction, and terminating at its junction with Joll Road, passing through the County of Patea, being a distance of three miles, more or less.

Kaharoa Road: All that portion of road known as Kaharoa Road, commencing at the junction with the Auckland–Wellington Road via Taranaki and proceeding thence generally in a northerly direction, and terminating at its junction with Kura Road, passing through the County of Patea, being a distance of three miles, more or less.

Momohaki State Farm Road: All that road known as the Momohaki State Farm Road, commencing at junction with Auckland–Wellington Road via Taranaki and proceeding thence generally in a north-easterly direction and terminating at Ngutawera Factory, passing through the Patea County, being a distance of three miles, more or less.

Kohi Road: All that portion of road known as Kohi Road, commencing at junction with Auckland–Wellington Road via Taranaki and proceeding thence generally in a northerly direction, and terminating at boundary, Sections 180–181, Block VI, Wairoa Survey District, passing through the County of Patea, being a distance of 2 miles 40 chains, more or less.

Rangitatau East and Watershed Roads: All those portions of roads known as Rangitatau East and Watershed Roads, commencing at the junction with the Auckland–Wellington Road via Taranaki at Kai-iwi and proceeding thence generally in a northerly direction, and terminating at its junction with Ahuahu Road at Section 16, Block XII, Momohaki Survey District, passing through the Waitotara County, being a distance of twenty-five miles, more or less.

Greatford–Ashhurst (via Feilding): All that road known as the Greatford–Ashhurst (via Feilding) Road, commencing at its junction with the Bull’s–Taurarunui Road at Greatford and proceeding thence generally in an easterly direction, and terminating at the eastern boundary of the County of Rangi-
