No person shall kill or destroy any such imported game or native game, or shoot at or attempt to shoot at any such imported game or native game, with any automatic or auto-loading gun, unless it is converted into a gun capable of carrying two cartridges only, or with any rifle or pea-rifle, swivel-gun or pump-gun, or shall use any gun other than a shoulder-gun; and no gun shall be used for the purpose aforesaid the bore of which is larger than the size known as No. 12 at the muzzle, nor shall any gun be used which exceeds 10 lb. in weight.

5. Any person committing a breach of any of these conditions is liable, on conviction, of a fine of £20.

Open Season for Imported Game and Native Game, License Fees, &c., Mangonui-Whangaroa Acclimatization District

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I, Richard Francis Bollard, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare the period from the 1st day of May to the 31st day of July, 1924 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the Mangonui-Whangaroa Acclimatization District, as described in the First Schedule hereto, except in the areas referred to in condition No. 3 and in the Second Schedule hereto, for the taking or killing of the following imported game and native game—viz., cock pheasants, Australian quail, grey duck, black teal, spoonbill duck (shoveller), and black swan; and the period from the 1st day of January to the 31st day of March, 1925 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the said district for the taking or killing of the following native game—viz., godwits—subject to the following conditions.

CONDITIONS.

1. LICENSES to take or kill such imported game and native game, including godwits, within the said district will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings (20s.) each, and licenses to take or kill the following native game only—viz., godwits—will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of ten shillings (10s.) each; and the secretary of the Mangonui-Whangaroa Acclimatization Society, or any person authorized by such secretary in that behalf, is hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

2. The number of such imported and native game that may be taken or killed by any one person in any one day shall not exceed twelve cock pheasants, and twenty-five head in all of grey duck, black teal, spoonbill duck (shoveller), and black swan.

3. Nothing in any license to take or kill imported game and native game, including godwits (or the following native game only—viz., godwits), shall authorize the holder thereof to take or kill imported game and native game, including godwits (or native game only, including godwits), on lands actually and exclusively used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain, or any land mentioned in the Second Schedule hereto.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I, Richard Francis Bollard, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare the period from the 1st day of May to the 31st day of July, 1924 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the Marlborough Acclimatization District, as described in the First Schedule hereto, except in the areas referred to in condition No. 3 and in the Second Schedule hereto, for the taking or killing of the following imported game and native game—viz., Californian quail, grey duck, and black swan—subject to the following conditions.

CONDITIONS.

1. LICENSES to take or kill such imported game and native game within the said district will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings (20s.) each; and the Chief Postmaster at Blenheim, and the Postmasters at Havelock, Canvastown, Mahakipawa, Renwicktown, Timatanga, Kekerangu, Picton, Nydia Bay, Seddon, Spring Creek, Ward, and Wairau Valley, are hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

2. The number of such imported game and native game that may be taken or killed by any one person in any one day shall not exceed twenty-five Californian quail and twelve head in all of grey duck and black swan.

3. FIRST SCHEDULE.

All that area in the Nelson, Marlborough, and Canterbury Land Districts bounded by a line commencing at Mount Humboldt in the Spenser Mountains, and proceeding thence north-easterly along that range and the St. Arnaud Range to the Waimea County; thence following the south-eastern boundary of the said Waimea County as described in New Zealand Gazette, 1917, page 4194, to the shore of Croisilles Harbour; thence following the sea-coast generally easterly and southerly to the mouth of the Conway River, and up that river to its source at Palmer Saddle; thence along a right line to Barefell Pass and a right line westerly to Mount Humboldt, the point of commencement: including therein D’Urville Island and all islands adjacent to the coast.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

Areas, in addition to those referred to in condition No. 3, excepted from the open season wherein imported game and native game shall not be taken or killed:—

1. All that area in the Marlborough Land District known as Lake Grassmere, and the area within a line running parallel to and five chains distant from the margin of the said lake.

2. All that area in the Marlborough Land District situated in Blocks VI and VII, Cape Campbell Survey District, being the lake known as Lake Elterwater, and the area surrounding the said lake included within a line running parallel to and forty chains distant from the margin of the said Lake Elterwater.

3. Big Lagoon at Vernon.
