Zealand, do hereby declare the period from the 1st day of May to the 31st day of July, 1924 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the Nelson Acclimatization District, as described in the Schedule hereto, except in the areas referred to in condition No. 3, for the taking or killing of the following imported game and native game—viz., Californian quail, grey duck, and black swan; and the period from the 1st day of January to the 31st day of March, 1925 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the said district for the taking or killing of the following native game—viz., godwits—subject to the following conditions.

CONDITIONS.

1. LICENSES to take or kill such imported game and native game (including godwits) within the said district will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings (20s.) each, and licenses to take or kill such native game only (including godwits) will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of ten shillings (10s.) each; and the Chief Postmaster at Nelson, and the Postmasters at Motueka, Kohatu, Wakefield, Murchison, and Reefton, are hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

2. The number of such imported game and native game that may be taken or killed by any one person in any one day shall not exceed forty Californian quail, ten grey duck, and five black swan.

3. Nothing in any license to take or kill imported game and native game (including godwits), or native game only (including godwits), shall authorize the holder thereof to take or kill imported game and native game (including godwits), or native game only (including godwits), on lands actually and exclusively used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain.

4. No person shall kill or destroy any such imported game or native game, or shoot at or attempt to shoot at any such imported game or native game, with any automatic or auto-loading gun, unless it is converted into a gun capable of carrying two cartridges only, or with any rifle or pea-rifle, swivel-gun or pump-gun, or shall use any gun other than a shoulder-gun; and no gun shall be used for the purpose aforesaid the bore of which is larger than the size known as No. 12 at the muzzle, nor shall any gun be used which exceeds 10 lb. in weight.

5. Any person committing a breach of any of these conditions is liable, on conviction, to a fine of £20.

SCHEDULE.

All that area comprising the Waimea, Takaka, Collingwood, and Murchison Counties, and part of the Inangahua County at present date, bounded towards the north-west and north-east generally by the Tasman Sea, Golden Bay, and Tasman Bay from Kohaihai Bluff, in Block XII, Whakapoi Survey District, to a point on the shore of Croisilles Harbour due west of the westernmost point of Elaine or Brown’s Bay; thence towards the north by a right line running due east to said westernmost point of that bay and by southern shore of that bay to its south head; thence towards the south-east generally by a right line to Trig. Station Y (boundary trig.), and by a line along the summit of the range over Mount McLaren, Editor Peak, Mount Duppa, and Saddle Hill to the source of the Heringa Stream; thence by a line down the middle of that stream to its confluence with the Pelorus River; thence by a line up the middle of the Pelorus River to its source near Red Hills; thence by a right line to the summit; thence by a line along the summit of the range over Red Hills, Mount Rintoul, and Bush Cone to the summit of Ward’s Pass; thence by a right line to Trig. Station Top 2 (Mangatawai); thence by a line along the summit of St. Arnaud Range and the summit of the Spenser Mountains; thence towards the south-west by a line along the summit of the southern watershed of the Maruia River to Mount Haast; thence by a line due north to the right bank of the Inangahua River, and along that bank to and along the left bank of the Buller River to the mouth of the Eight-mile or Boundary Creek; thence by a line up a leading spur on the western side of said Boundary Creek to Bald Hill, and by a line along the summit of Lyell Range and along the summit of a range over Mount Luna to Mount Arthur; thence towards the south-west by a line along the summit of the western ranges over Mount Peel and Mount Snowdon to Mount Cobb; thence towards the south-east by a line along the summit of range over Mount Domett and down a leading spur to the Tasman Sea at Kohaihai Bluff, the place of commencement.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I, Richard Francis Bollard, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare the period from the 1st day of May to the 31st day of July, 1924 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the North Canterbury Acclimatization District, as described in the First Schedule hereto, except in the areas referred to in condition No. 3 and in the Second Schedule hereto, for the taking or killing of the following imported game and native game—viz., Californian quail, grey duck, spoonbill duck (or shoveller), and black swan; and the period from the 1st day of January to the 31st day of March, 1925 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the said district for the taking or killing of the following native game—viz., godwits and knots—subject to the following conditions.

Nothing in any license to take or kill imported game and native game, including godwits and knots (or native game only, including godwits and knots), or native game (godwits and knots only) shall authorize the holder thereof to take or kill imported game and native game, including godwits and knots (or native game only, including godwits and knots), or native game (godwits and knots only) on lands actually and exclusively used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain, or any land mentioned in the Second Schedule hereto.

4. 5. Shooting may begin not earlier than half an hour before sunrise and must cease not later than half an hour after sunset.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

All that area in the Nelson, Marlborough, and Canterbury Land Districts bounded by a line commencing at Whitcombe Pass, and proceeding north-easterly along the summit of the Southern Alps and the Spenser Mountains to Mount Humboldt; thence along a right line to Barefell Pass, a right line to Palmer Saddle, and thence down the Conway River to its mouth; thence along the sea-coast to Rakaia River, and up that river to its source at Whitcombe Pass, the point of commencement.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

Areas, in addition to those referred to in condition No. 3, excepted from the open season wherein imported game and native game shall not be taken or killed:—

1. All that area in the County of Akaroa, situated in the Akaroa and Ellesmere Survey Districts, Canterbury Land District, containing by admeasurement 1,540 acres, more or less, being the lake known as Lake Forsyth, including all roads fronting on the shores of the said lake; and all those reserves in the said county and survey districts numbered 3186, 3187, 3185, 2903, 890, and 157, and those portions of R.S. 2474, 4804, and 6012, being the flat land adjoining Okute and Little River Streams and Lake Forsyth, and Native reserves numbered 385 and 2533 adjoining Lake Forsyth.
