middle of the Mohaka River; thence by the middle of the Mohaka and Taharua Rivers to a point in line with the north-western corner of Wharetoto No. 8 Subdivision B Block; thence by a right line to the intersection of the Taupo-Napier Road with the western boundary of Wharetoto No. 9 Block; thence by a right line running in the direction of the most northern shore of Lake Waikaremoana to its intersection with the north-eastern boundary of Heruwi No. 4 Block; thence by that boundary to Maungataniwha Trig. Station in Tuatawaha Survey District; thence by the leading spur and the western watershed of Te Hoe River to a point on the Hautapu River due east of Pohokura Trig. Station; thence by a right line to Pohokura Trig. Station aforesaid; thence by the eastern watershed of the Mokomokonui Stream to the Tatarackino Mountain; thence by the leading spur to the confluence of the Mohaka and Waipunga Rivers; thence by the leading spur to Trig. Station 69A, Taraponui; thence by the leading spur and the southern watershed of the Waikare River to the sea at Moeangiangi; thence towards the east generally by high-water mark of the sea to the middle of the Waimata River, being the north-eastern corner of Waimata Survey District in Akitio County; thence by the northern boundaries of Waimata and Mount Cerebus Survey Districts and the northern boundary of Wellington Land District to the middle of the Manawatu River; thence by the middle of the Manawatu River to a point in line with the summit of the Ruahine Range; thence to and by the summit of that range to a right line running between Aorangi Trig. Station and the confluence of the northern branch of the Waipawa River with the Makaroro River; thence by that line to Aorangi Trig. Station; thence by a right line running in the direction of trig. numbered 32 to the middle of the Rangitikei River, and by the middle of that river to the place of commencement.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

Areas, in addition to those referred to in condition No. 3, excepted from the open season wherein imported game and native game, or native game only, shall not be taken or killed :—

Open Season for Imported Game and Native Game, License Fees, &c., Hobson Acclimatization District.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I, Richard Francis Bollard, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare the period from the 1st day of May to the 31st day of July, 1924 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the Hobson Acclimatization District, as described in the First Schedule hereto, except in the areas referred to in condition No. 3 and in the Second Schedule hereto, for the taking or killing of the following imported game and native game—viz., cock pheasants, grey duck, pukeko, black teal, and black swan; and the period from the 1st day of January to the 31st day of March, 1925 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the said district for the taking or killing of the following native game—viz., godwits—subject to the following conditions.

CONDITIONS.

1. LICENSES to take or kill such imported game and native game, including godwits, within the said district will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings (20s.) each; and the Postmasters at Maungaturoto, Paparoa, Pahi, Matakoe, Dargaville, Te Kopuru, Aratapu, Tangiteroria, Tangowahine, Kaihu, Mititai, Raupo, Ruawai, Batley, Hoanga, Mangawhare, Mareretu, Onetoa, Naumai, Otamatea, Rehia, Tutamoe, Wairere, Whakapirau, and Tokatoka are hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

2. The number of such imported game and native game that may be taken or killed by any one person in any one day shall not exceed twelve cock pheasants, and twenty-five head in all of grey duck, pukeko, black teal, and black swan.

3. Nothing in any license to take or kill imported game and native game, including godwits, shall authorize the holder thereof to take or kill imported game and native game, including godwits, on lands actually and exclusively used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain, or any land mentioned in the Second Schedule hereto.

4. No person shall kill or destroy any such imported game or native game, or shoot at or attempt to shoot at any such imported game or native game, with any automatic or auto-loading gun, unless it is converted into a gun capable of carrying two cartridges only, or with any rifle or pea-rifle, swivel-gun or pump-gun, or shall use any gun other than a shoulder-gun; and no gun shall be used for the purpose aforesaid the bore of which is larger than the size known as No. 12 at the muzzle, nor shall any gun be used which exceeds 10 lb. in weight.

5. Any person committing a breach of any of these conditions is liable, on conviction, to a fine of £20.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

All that area in the North Auckland Land District, commencing on the sea-coast at the north-western corner of Block V, Waipoua Survey District, and bounded by the southern boundaries of Blocks I, II, III, and IV, Waipoua Survey District, to a public road, across that road, and by the western, southern, and south-eastern boundaries of Section 10, Block I, Tutamoe Survey District, to the north-eastern corner of the last-mentioned section, across a public road, and by the north-eastern boundaries of Sections 5, 6, and 7, Block V, Tutamoe Survey District, to the south-eastern corner of Section 5, Block I, Tutamoe Survey District; thence by the south-eastern boundaries of Sections 5, 4, 3, and 14 of the last-mentioned block, and part of the southern boundary of Section 5, Block II, Tutamoe Survey District, to the intersection of a line running between the north-western corner of Section 3, Block XIII, Punakitere Survey District, and Tutamoe Trig. Station; thence by the last-mentioned line to Tutamoe Trig. Station; thence generally by the northern and north-eastern boundary of Hobson County as described in New Zealand Gazette, 1911, page 3065, to the Otamatea County; thence by the northern boundary of Otamatea County as described in New Zealand Statutes, 1886, page 315, to the main road to Waipoua; thence by the western side of that road through Maungaturoto to the Great North Road, and by the western side of that road to the eastern boundary of Otamatea County; thence by the eastern and southern boundaries of Otamatea County, to the eastern and southern boundaries of Hobson County, to the sea; thence by the sea to the north-western corner of Block V, Waipoua Survey District, the place of commencement.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

Areas, in addition to those referred to in condition No. 3, excepted from the open season wherein imported game and native game shall not be taken or killed :—

All that area in the North Auckland Land District, situated in Kai Iwi and Kaihu Survey Districts, Hobson County, being the lakes known as Lake Waikere, Lake Taharoa, and Lake Kai Iwi, and the area surrounding the said lakes included within a line running parallel to and 40 chains distant from the margins of the said lakes.

LICENSES to take or kill such imported game and native game within the said district will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings (20s.) each, and licenses to take or kill such native game only will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of ten shillings (10s.) each; and the Postmasters at Queenstown, Arrowtown, Kingston, and Pembroke are hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

2. The number of such native game that may be taken or killed by any one person in any one day shall not exceed twenty-five head in all of grey duck and black swan.

3. Nothing in any license to take or kill imported game and native game (or native game only) shall authorize the holder thereof to take or kill imported game and native game (or native game only) on lands actually and exclusively used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain.
