PORTUGAL, WEST COAST.
[TEMPORARY.]
Burling Island (Berlenga) Light.—Temporary Alteration in Characteristics.

Position.—Lat. 39° 25′ N., long. 9° 30′ W. (approx.).
Details.—The group flashing white light, showing three flashes every thirty seconds, has been temporarily replaced by a light of a similar character, but having a visibility of only 11 miles.
The temporary light is visible from 112°, through south, to 067°.

UNITED STATES, ATLANTIC COAST.—MASSACHUSETTS.
Nantucket Shoals Light-vessel.—Alteration in Character of Submarine Fog-signal.

Position.—Lat. 40° 37′ N., long. 69° 37′ W. (approx.).
Abridged Description.—Submarine Oscillator or Bell ev. 30 sec.
Details.—A submarine oscillator has replaced the submarine fog-bell on board the above light-vessel and sounds one group of six blasts every thirty seconds, thus: Blast 0·5 sec., silence 3·0 sec.; blast 0·5 sec., silence 3·0 sec.; blast 0·5 sec., silence 3·0 sec.; blast 0·5 sec., silence 3·0 sec.; blast 0·5 sec., silence 12·0 sec.
Remarks.—In the event of the oscillator becoming inoperative the submarine fog-bell will be sounded in a similar manner.

COSTA RICA.—CARIBBEAN COAST, PORT LIMON APPROACH.
Grape Cay Light.—Alteration in Character.

Position.—On the northern side of the cay. Lat. 10° N., long. 83° 01′ W. (approx.).
New Abridged Description.—(U) Lt. fl. ev. 12 sec., 133 ft., vis. 17 m.
Alteration.—The character of the light has been altered from fixed white to flashing white every twelve seconds.
Remarks.—The visibility of the light is now 17 miles. The light is unwatched. In other respects the light is unaltered.
NOTE.—The note “(Unreliable),” hitherto shown against this light on the charts, is to be deleted.

CENTRAL AMERICA, PACIFIC COAST.—PANAMA, BANCO SAN JOSÉ.
Trollope Rock.—Light-buoy established.

Position.—At a distance of about 7 cables south-eastward of the rock. Lat. 8° 06′ 02″ N., long. 78° 38′ 11″ W., on chart No. 2261.
Description.—A can light-buoy, painted in red and black horizontal stripes, exhibiting an occulting white light every two seconds, thus: Light 1 sec., eclipse 1 sec.

(4301) CALIFORNIA.
Point Arguello Light Station.—Characteristic of Fog-signal.
The fog-signal at Point Arguello Light Station is a first-class air siren sounding 1 blast of 2 seconds duration every 30 seconds, and not a whistle.
Approx. position: 34° 34′ 38″ N., 120° 38′ 59″ W.

SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.—TONGA (FRIENDLY) ISLANDS.
Tongatabu Island, Amended Position of Volcano north-westward of.

Amended Position.—At a distance of about 1½ miles southward of charted position. Lat. 20° 51′ 12″ S., long. 175° 32′ 30″ W., on Chart No. 2421.
Details.—A depth of 27 fathoms (49m4), encircled by a danger line and marked “Volcano (Active 1911),” is to be inserted in the above position, and the former site of this volcano on the charts is to be expunged. The depth of 544 fathoms (994m9) shown close to the amended position, on Chart No. 2421, is also to be erased.

SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.—SAMOA (NAVIGATOR) ISLANDS.
Tutuila Island.—Information re Rock, Depths, and Shoals.
(1.) Rock.—
Position.—At a distance of about 3¼ miles westward of Cape Tapu Tapu (West Cape). Lat. 14° 20′ S., long. 170° 54′ W. (approx.).
Details.—The rock awash, shown on the charts in this position, does not exist and is to be expunged accordingly.

(2.) Depths and shoals.—
(a.) Position.—At a distance of 2·65 miles 152° from Cape Tapu Tapu.
Depth.—11 fathoms (20m1).
Remarks.—The 6 fathom (11m0) shoal, marked “P.D.,” shown on the charts at a distance of about one mile westward of this position, does not exist, and is to be expunged accordingly.
(b.) Position.—At a distance of 3·9 miles 227° from Cape Tapu Tapu.
Depth.—15 fathoms (27m4).
Remarks.—The 12 fathom (21m9) depth shown on the chart at a distance of about one mile south-westward of this position does not exist and is to be expunged accordingly.
(c.) Position.—At a distance of 3·6 miles 268° from Cape Tapu Tapu.
Depth.—18 fathoms (32m9).

TASMANIA.—NORTH COAST.
Three Hummock Island.—Cape Rochon.—Intended New Light (U).
Mariners and others are hereby notified that a flashing white light (U) will be established on Cape Rochon on or about 1st June, 1924.
Position.—On slope, 3½ cables distant bearing 182° from the northerly extreme of Cape Rochon. Lat. 40° 24′ S., long. 144° 57′ E. on Chart No. 3687.
Details.—
Character.—Flashing white light every five seconds, thus: Flash, ½ sec.; eclipse, 4½ sec.
Elevation.—150 ft. Visibility.—18 miles. Power.—5,000 candles.
Structure.—White square wooden house, with white lantern 22 ft. in height.
Remarks.—The light will be unwatched.
NOTE.—Further notice will be given.

TASMANIA.—WEST POINT.
West Point, Light (U).—Intended Alteration in Character.
Mariners and others are hereby notified that the flashing white light on West Point will be replaced by a group flashing white light (U) on or about 1st May, 1924.
Position.—About one cable from the south-western extreme of the Point. Lat. 40° 57¾′ S., long. 144° 38½′ E. on Chart No. 1695B.
Alteration.—The character of the light will be altered from flashing white to group flashing white showing three flashes in quick succession every fifteen seconds, thus: Flash, ½ sec., eclipse, 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 11½ sec.
Remarks.—The light will be unwatched.
NOTE.—The other details of the light will remain unchanged. No further notice will be given.

Mariners and others are hereby notified that a group flashing white light (U) will be established at Cutter Point on or about 16th April, 1924.
Position.—On the summit of Cutter Point (202′). Lat. 40° 29½′ S.; long. 144° 43½′ E., on Chart No. 3687.
Details.—
Character.—Group flashing white light showing two flashes in quick succession every ten seconds, thus: Flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 8 sec.
Elevation.—220 ft. Visibility.—20 miles. Power.—5,000 candles.
