Notice to Mariners No. 2 of 1924.
WHANGAREI HARBOUR.—BUOY WITHDRAWN.—BEACON AND
LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—BEACONS ERECTED.

Wellington, 15th January, 1924.
THE Whangarei Harbour Board notifies that the Black
Buoy 332°, 1·3 cables from the Tower on Sugarloaf
Island, has been withdrawn.
A concrete beacon painted white 331°, 1·5 cables from
Tower on Sugarloaf Island, has been erected and an un-
watched aga light flashing white every 6 seconds, thus (1 second
light, 5 seconds eclipse), will be exhibited on the 21st
January, 1924.
Mariners should keep 1 cable’s length clear of beacon.
Abridged description: Fl. ev. 6 sec. 14 ft. 5M. (U).
Two white-painted beacons 5 ft. high have been erected
on Knight Point to mark the channel to Limestone Island.
A fixed white light will be shown from each beacon.

THE following Notices to Mariners, received from the
Hydrographic Office, London, the Hydrographic Office,
Washington, and the Department of Trade and Customs,
Melbourne, are published for general information.

ENGLAND, EAST COAST.—RIVER THAMES ENTRANCE.
Mouse Light-vessel.—Intended Alteration in Light.
Date of Alteration.—On or about 18th December, 1923.
Position.—Lat. 51° 31′ N., long. 0° 58′ E. (approx.).
Details.—The colour of the flashing light will be altered
from green to red, and the power will be considerably increased.
In other respects the light will be unaltered.
Further notice will be given.
ENGLAND, SOUTH COAST.
Royal Sovereign Shoals Buoy.—Alteration in Position.
Former Notice.—No. 1534 of 1923.
New Position.—At a distance of about 1½ cables southward
of charted position. Lat. 50° 44′ 09″ N., long. 0° 25′ 53″ E.,
on Chart No. 1652.
Description.—A can buoy, painted in black and white
vertical stripes, with topmark.
Remarks.—The new position of this buoy is on the southern
side of the 4½ fathom (7m8) shoals, notified in former notice.
FRANCE, NORTH COAST.—DUNKERQUE APPROACH.
Ruytingen Light-vessel.—Alteration in Period of Light and
Fog-signal.
Position.—Lat. 51° 15′ N.; long. 2° 14′ E. (approx.).
(a.) Light.—
New Abridged Description.—Lt. Fl. Red ev. 5 sec.,
39 ft., vis. 10 m.
Alteration.—The period of the flashing red light has
been altered from twenty seconds to five seconds.
In other respects the light is unaltered.
(b.) Fog-signal.—
New Abridged Description.—Fog siren (3) ev. 1½ min.
or bell.
Alteration.—The period of the fog-siren has been
altered from one minute to one and a half minutes.
The siren sounds two consecutive blasts followed
by a single blast.
(c.) Vessel.—
Alteration.—The former light-vessel has been replaced
by a light-vessel with hull painted in red and
black horizontal stripes, with “RUYTINGEN” in
white on sides, and having one mast.
Outer Ruytingen Bank.—Shoal eastward of.
Position.—At a distance of about 1¾ miles eastward of the
charted position of No. 3 buoy. Lat. 51° 09′ 04″ N., long.
2° 08′ 08″ E., on Chart No. 1872.
Depth.—1¾ fathoms (3m2).
NOTE.—The above shoal is to be marked “Reported (1923)
(Not examined)” on Chart No. 1872 and “Not examd.” on
Chart No. 1406.
