The elevation ranges from 300 ft. to 500 ft. above sea-level. The section comprises easy undulating to steep land, in manuka-scrub, hakea, and fern, and is mostly ploughable. Soil is of clay resting on sandstone formation. The section has no water, but water would probably be obtained by sinking in gully. Situated on the Ridge Road, between Riverhead and Albany, and overlooks the Paremoremo Creek. Access is from Riverhead Wharf, which is about three miles distant by a formed cart-road, unmetalled. Riverhead has a daily steamer service with Auckland.
Hokianga County.—Pupuke Parish.
Section S.W. 119 and N.E. 120: Area, 55 acres. Capital value, £55. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £1 7s. 6d. Renewable lease: half-yearly rent, £1 2s.
The elevation ranges from 400 ft. to 500 ft. above sea-level. The sections comprise undulating to hilly land, about 33 acres very rough land in bush and fern. Soil is of clay resting on papa formation. The bush is mixed comprising rimu, taraire, &c., with a fair undergrowth of supplejack, nikau. Well watered by streams. Access is from Kaeo or Whangaroa, which are about seventeen miles distant, six miles being formed metal road, three miles formed clay road, balance rough bridle-track.

Appointing a Member of the Napier Harbour Board.
JELLICOE, Governor-General.
WHEREAS it is provided by section thirty-seven of the Harbours Act, 1923, that in the case of the death of a member of a Harbour Board the vacancy created by his death shall be deemed to be an extraordinary vacancy:
And whereas it is provided by subsection two of section thirty-eight of the said Act that, in the event of an extraordinary vacancy in the office of an elective member of the Board other than a representative of a constituent district, the Governor-General may, by Warrant under his hand, appoint some qualified person in his place:
And whereas Laurence Taylor Cooper, an elective member of the Napier Harbour Board, being a representative of the combined district of that portion of the Wairoa County within the Riding of Mohaka and the County of Hawke’s Bay, with the exception of the Meeanee Riding, is deceased, and it is desirable to appoint some qualified person in his place:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the hereinbefore-recited power and authority, and of all other powers and authorities enabling him in that behalf, doth hereby appoint
William Wilson Smart, of Havelock North,
to be a member of the Napier Harbour Board as a representative of the combined district of that portion of the Wairoa County within the Riding of Mohaka and of the County of Hawke’s Bay, with the exception of the Meeanee Riding, in the place of Laurence Taylor Cooper, deceased.

Warrant apportioning the Cost of Maintaining Portion of Page’s Road in the Heathcote County.
JELLICOE, Governor-General.
IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me by sections one hundred and nine and one hundred and twenty of the Public Works Act, 1908, and of all other powers and authorities in anywise enabling me in that behalf, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby direct that the cost of maintaining the portion of road described in the Schedule hereto shall be borne by the Christchurch City Council, the New Brighton Borough Council, and the Heathcote County Council in the following proportions, viz.: the Christchurch City Council shall pay twenty-five per centum, the New Brighton Borough Council shall pay forty-one and two-thirds per centum, and the Heathcote County Council shall pay thirty-three and one-third per centum of such cost respectively:
And I do hereby further direct that any contribution hereby required to be made as aforesaid by the Christchurch City Council and the New Brighton Borough Council shall be paid from time to time, in the proportion hereinbefore prescribed, to the Heathcote County Council out of the funds of the said City and Borough Councils, within a period of one month after demand in writing made by or on behalf of the Heathcote County Council, and such payments shall be made from time to time to the Clerk of the Heathcote County Council for and on behalf of the said City and Borough Councils:
And I do hereby revoke, as from the taking effect of the apportionment hereunder, the Warrant dated the twenty-eighth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and fourteen, and gazetted on the seventh day of May, one thousand nine hundred and fourteen, apportioning the cost of maintaining Page’s Road from its junction with Buckley’s Road to the bridge over the Avon River at New Brighton.
SCHEDULE.
THAT portion of Page’s Road in the Heathcote County, Canterbury Land District, commencing at the Christchurch City boundary (a point in line with the eastern boundary of the land shown on transfer 48938) and proceeding thence generally in a north-easterly direction to the Avon River. As the said portion of road is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 58635, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon marked X–X.

to be a member of the Maori Council for the Maori Council District of Tamatea.
