Notifying the Proposed Exchange of Crown Land in the
Westland Land District for other Land.

JELLICOE, Governor-General.

WHEREAS by section one hundred and forty-two of the Land Act, 1908, as amended by section six of the Land Laws Amendment Act, 1920, it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor-General, whenever he deems it expedient in the public interest, to grant in fee-simple any area of Crown land which is subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908, in exchange for the fee-simple of any other land, and on any such exchange to pay or receive any sum by way of equality of exchange:

And whereas, in the opinion of the Governor-General, it is expedient to exchange the Crown land described in the First Schedule hereto for the land of equal value described in the Second Schedule hereto, and the owner of the land described in the Second Schedule has agreed to such exchange:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in exercise of the aforesaid powers and authorities, doth hereby declare that it is his intention to grant in fee-simple the area of Crown land described in the First Schedule hereto in exchange for the fee-simple of the land described in the Second Schedule.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

DESCRIPTION OF LAND AUTHORIZED TO BE EXCHANGED.
ALL that area in the Westland Land District, containing by admeasurement 2 acres 0 roods 29 perches, more or less, being part of Section 1144, Block I, Kanieri Survey District. Bounded as follows: Commencing at the north-eastern corner of Section 1137, thence running in a southerly direction along the eastern boundary of Section 1137, a distance of 1069·4 links; thence in an easterly direction, a distance of 237·4 links; thence in a northerly direction, a distance of 969·2 links, to a point on the southern side of Buckland Road; thence westerly along southern side of Buckland Road, a distance of 214 links, to the point of commencement. As the same is delineated on plan marked L. and S. 6/8/23, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon coloured yellow.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

DESCRIPTION OF LAND TO BE OBTAINED IN EXCHANGE THEREFOR.
ALL that area in the Westland Land District, containing by admeasurement 2 acres 0 roods 29 perches, more or less, being part of Section 1137, Block I, Kanieri Survey District. Bounded as follows : Commencing at a point on the Hokitika-Greymouth Road, being the north-western corner of Section 1138, thence running in a south-easterly and easterly direction along northern boundary of said Section 1138, distances of 558·7 links and 561·9 links; thence in a north-westerly direction, a distance of 1057·9 links, to a point on the eastern side of the Hokitika-Greymouth Road; thence in a south-westerly direction along eastern side of Hokitika-Greymouth Road, a distance of 269·8 links, to the point of commencement. As the same is delineated on plan marked L. and S. 6/8/23, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon coloured blue.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this 26th day of November, 1923.

Bounded towards the north-east by Sections 632 and 478, for a distance of 501·50 links; towards the south-east by Kopu Road and Section 480, for distances of 80·33 and 20·08 links respectively; towards the south-west by Sections 480 and 630, for distances of 250·75 and 250·75 links respectively; towards the north-west by Apatu Street, for a distance of 100·41 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less. As the same is delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 6/1/156, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

DESCRIPTION OF LAND TO BE OBTAINED IN EXCHANGE THEREFOR.
ALL that area in the Hawke’s Bay Land District, containing by admeasurement 2 roods 0·56 perches, being Sections 627 and 483, Town of Clyde. Bounded towards the north-east by Sections 628 and 482, for a distance of 501·50 links; towards the south-east by Kopu Road, for a distance of 100·41 links; towards the south-west by Sections 484 and 626, for a distance of 501·50 links; and towards the north-west by Apatu Road, a distance of 100·41 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less. As the same is delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 6/1/156, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red.

Opening Lands in the Marlborough Land District for Sale or Selection.

JELLICOE, Governor-General.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Tuesday, the twelfth day of February, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-four; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

Situated in the Upper Opouri Valley, and distant about seven miles from the main Blenheim-Nelson Road and from a dairy factory. Access is by a 12 ft. formed road to the southern end of the block. The river-flats and sidlings were originally covered with heavy bush, from which the milling timber has now been removed. The standing bush is of mixed nature, but the greater part is birch. Portions of the flats have been burnt, and sown with English grasses, and the sections are well watered. Good building-sites and fencing boundaries. The country rises from easy to steep slopes of from 300 ft. to 2,500 ft. above sea-level.
