(7.) Wild or undomesticated animals for exhibition in public
zoological gardens or in approved circuses, or for
scientific purposes only.

(8.) Birds : Provided—
(a.) That the admission of animals permitted by Procla-
mation to be imported into Australia shall be sub-
ject to certificates and declarations being furnished
in accordance with the Quarantine Regulations ;
(b.) That no cattle, sheep, swine, or goats from the United
Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland shall be ad-
mitted into Australia if they have, within six months
of the date of shipment, been kept pastured or
housed upon, or passed on foot through, any area
within 15 miles of any place where foot and mouth
disease has occurred during the preceding six
months ;
(c.) That no cattle from the United States of America
shall be imported into Australia unless, in addi-
tion to the declarations and certifications required
by the Quarantine Regulations, they are accom-
panied by a certificate from a responsible Govern-
ment veterinary officer to the effect that the animals
have not, within six months of the date of ship-
ment, been kept pastured or housed upon, or passed
on foot through, any area within 15 miles of any
place where foot and mouth disease has occurred
during the preceding six months ;
(d.) That, in order to prevent the introduction into Aus-
tralia of Hypoderma Bovis, no cattle shall be im-
ported into Australia from Great Britain, Ireland,
the United States of America, or the Dominion of
Canada, except those shipped during the months of
December, January, February, March, April, and
May : Provided further, that cattle shipped in May
shall be subject to quarantine surveillance after the
expiry of the quarantine period for such time as the
Chief Quarantine Officer of the State into which
they are imported may direct ;
(e.) That no fowls shall be imported into the Northern
Territory of Australia from Asia or the East Indies ;
(f.) That venomous reptiles may be imported only by the
managing authorities of zoological societies for
exhibition in public zoological gardens only ;
(g.) That the Minister may permit the importation of dogs
for scientific or public exhibition purposes subject
to any conditions which he may think fit to impose ;
(h.) That the Minister may permit the importation into
Australia of domesticated animals by the Chief
Quarantine Officer of the State into which it is
desired to import them, subject to permission being
given by him prior to the departure of the animals
from the port of shipment, and to any further con-
ditions which he may think fit to impose.

This Proclamation may be cited as Quarantine Proclama-
tion No. 114.

Given under my Hand and the Seal of the Common-
wealth this eighteenth day of July, one thousand nine
hundred and twenty-three, and in the fourteenth year
of His Majesty’s reign.

CROWN LANDS NOTICES.

Land in Wellington Land District for Sale or Lease to Discharged Soldiers.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Wellington, 23rd August, 1923.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned land
is open for sale or lease to discharged soldiers under
the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the regu-
lations thereunder ; and applications will be received at the
District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, up to 4 o’clock
p.m. on Monday, the 29th day of October, 1923.

The land may be purchased for cash or on deferred pay-
ments, or selected on lease for a term of thirty-three years,
with right of renewal for further successive terms of thirty-
three years and a right to acquire the freehold.

Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board
for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office,
Wellington, on Tuesday, the 30th day of October, 1923, at
10.30 o’clock a.m. ; but if any applicant so desires he may
be examined by the Land Board of any other district.

The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination
of applicants.


SCHEDULE.

WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT.—FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Masterton County.—Rewa Survey District.—Waihora Settlement.

SECTION 3s : Area, 221 acres ; capital value, £3,600 ; annual
instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £192 10s. ;
half-yearly rent on lease, £81 ; interest and sinking fund,
£12 12s. 6d.*

  • Half-yearly instalment of interest and principal on build-
    ing valued at £250 ; to be paid for in cash, or in fourteen years
    by twenty-eight half-yearly instalments of £12 12s. 6d. Total
    half-yearly payments on lease, £93 12s. 6d.

NOTE.—The deferred-payment instalment includes payment
for buildings.

The improvements not included in the capital value com-
prise stable, barn, and thirty chains of fencing, valued at
£137 10s. ; to be paid for in cash or treated as an advance
on current account.

Situated twenty-six miles from Masterton by good metalled
road. The Langdale School is within half a mile from the
section. Comprises easy hilly land ; well watered ; suitable
for dairying, grazing, and agriculture. Altitude, 150 ft. to
250 ft.

NOTICE is hereby given that written tenders, marked on
the outside “Tender for Lease,” will be received at
this office up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Wednesday, 3rd October,
1923, for a year-to-year grazing license over the under-
mentioned land, under the provisions of section 130 of the
Land Act, 1908.
