Proclamation by Commonwealth of Australia regarding Importation of Animals.—Notice No. Ag. 2286.

THE following copy of an extract from the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette of 26th July, 1923, regarding the modification of the Proclamation prohibiting, subject to certain limitations and conditions or restrictions, the importation of animals into the Commonwealth is published for general information.

PROCLAMATION.

By His Excellency the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia.
WHEREAS by the Quarantine Act 1908–1920, it is enacted that the Governor-General may, by Proclamation, prohibit the importation into Australia of any animals or plants or any parts of animals or plants and that the power of prohibition shall extend to authorize prohibition generally or with limitations as to place and subject-matter and either absolutely or subject to any specified conditions or restrictions :
And whereas by Proclamation published in the Gazette of 23rd December, 1915 (Quarantine Proclamation No. 1); 24th April, 1919 (Quarantine Proclamation No. 45); 8th June, 1922 (Quarantine Proclamation No. 96); 8th March, 1923 (Quarantine Proclamation No. 107); 22nd March, 1923 (Quarantine Proclamation No. 108), the importation of animals into Australia was prohibited subject to certain limitations and conditions or restrictions :
And whereas it is desirable to modify and consolidate the said Proclamations :
Now therefore I, Henry William, Baron Forster, the Governor-General aforesaid, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, do hereby repeal all portions of the said Proclamation of 23rd December, 1915 (Quarantine Proclamation No. 1) not previously repealed, and the remainder of the said Proclamations, and I do hereby prohibit the importation into Australia from any part of the world of all animals except—
