Buller County.—Kongahu Survey District.

Section 1, Block, V : Area, 546 acres ; capital value, £280 ; half-yearly rent, £5 12s.

Limestone formation, carrying mixed bush of birch and pine, with heavy undergrowth of supplejacks and kiekie. Access from Little Wanganui by six miles of unformed road.

Murchison County.—Matakitaki Survey District.

Sections 3 and 4, Block IX : Area, 706 acres ; capital value, £360 ; half-yearly rent, £7 4s.

Weighted with £45, valuation for 30 acres felled and grassed. Part Rappahannock Block, four miles and a half from Maruawera Post and Telephone Office. Access from Murchison, thirty miles distant—twenty-seven miles good road, two miles and a half of newly formed road, balance bridle-track. Good building-site on Cave Stream ; small flats up Diamond Creek ; but most of sections consist of hillsides entirely bushclad. Improvements comprise 32 acres felled and grassed, fair condition. Soil good on frontage and gullies, poor to fair on hillside, conglomerate formation. Forest medium brown and red birch and some totara and rata, of no commercial value. Undergrowth light, consisting of birch, scrub, konini, and horopito. Well watered. Altitude, 1,300 ft. to 2,600 ft. above sea-level. General quality fair, but inclined to be shady.

Buller County.—Oparara Survey District.

Section 7, Block I : Area, 697 acres ; capital value, £350 ; half-yearly rent, £7.

Situated on sea-coast eight miles north of Karamea—two miles and a half by formed road, balance unformed. From Oparara River to this section is about five miles of good beach, which is the only access. All hilly country with very steep faces, bushclad. Good soil on coast frontage and northern part of section, balance poor granite formation ; well watered. Altitude, to 1,600 ft. above sea-level.

Murchison County.—Rahu Survey District.

Sections 1 and 2, Block XVI : Area, 607 acres ; capital value, £350 ; half-yearly rent, £7.

Situated in Upper Maruia Valley, about fourteen miles from Warwick Junction or thirty-two miles from Reefton. Access from Murchison or Reefton by formed dray-road, forty-six and thirty-two miles respectively. Formed dray-road from both places to within half a mile of sections, then no road or track is formed into sections. Frontage occupied by Sections 6 and 8. Twelve acres flat, medium soil, remainder hillside and broken land ; slopes easy, suitable for stock, whole area bushclad. Soil fair to medium, clayey granite formation ; forest light red and brown birch ; well watered. Altitude, 1,400 ft. to 1,900 ft. above sea-level.

Buller County.—Steeple Survey District.

Section 16, Block III : Area, 205 acres ; capital value, £105 ; half-yearly rent, £2 2s.

Weighted with £15, valuation for half share of sixty chains boundary fencing.

Situated near Cape Foulwind, about seven miles from Westport by rail or road. Access from Cape Foulwind, one mile and a half distant by good road, last sixty chains of which is not metalled. About 20 acres light bush, balance has been cleared by sawmill and is now in fern. Section is undulating and wet. Soil of poor quality, wet and sour ; well watered. Altitude, 80 ft. to 100 ft. above sea-level.

Murchison County.—Tutaki Survey District.

Section 17, Block IX : Area, 539 acres ; capital value, £315 ; half-yearly rent, £6 6s.

Situated six miles and a half from Murchison, three-quarters of a mile from telephone-office, and one mile from school. Access from Murchison by six miles good metalled road, then across Matakitaki River by stock-bridge, and half a mile rough bridle-track. Entirely bushclad. Small flats on Taylor’s Creek, but majority of section is undulating to easy slopes. Soil is fair loam, on sandstone formation ; well watered. Altitude, 850 ft. to 2,200 ft. above sea-level.

Sections 14 and 22 (Crown land), Block V : Area, 552 acres ; capital value, £280 ; half-yearly rent, £5 12s.

Situated six miles and a half from Murchison on Matakitaki River, half a mile from school, and a quarter of a mile from telephone-office. Access, six miles well-formed metalled road, thence across Matakitaki River by stock-bridge, and half a mile of bridle-track. All bushclad, with exception of small area in fern. Small flat on river frontage, and some easy country up a small stream, but majority is hillside. Good soil on flat, fair on hillside, resting on sandstone formation ; well watered. Altitude, from 650 ft. to 2,300 ft. above sea-level.

Murchison County.—Maruia Survey District.

Section 1, Block XV : Area, 282 acres 1 rood ; capital value, £180 ; half-yearly rent, £3 12s.

Weighted with £80 10s., valuation for improvements consisting of fifty-two chains of fencing, and hut, 20 ft. by 10 ft., iron chimney.

Situated in Maruia Valley, seventeen miles from Murchison by good metalled road. About 50 acres of bush has been felled and sown, but is now overgrown with fern and second growth ; remainder of section bushclad. Soil of good quality on flat, fair on hillside ; well watered by small streams. Altitude, 940 ft. to 2,000 ft. above sea-level.

THIRD-CLASS LAND.

Murchison County.—Maruia Survey District.

Section 7, Block XVI : Area, 413 acres ; capital value, £240 ; half-yearly rent, £4 16s.

Situated twenty-one miles from Murchison—seventeen miles by good formed road, then four miles up Pea Soup Creek, where there is no road or formed track, but it is possible to ride a horse up the creek. Small flats along creek-bed ; remainder of section hillside, all forest, consisting of mixed birch with a few matai ; medium undergrowth of birch scrub and broadleaf. Soil fair loam running to light, on granite and sandstone formation ; well watered. Altitude, 800 ft. to 2,000 ft. above sea-level.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand ; and issued under the Seal of that Dominion, at the Government House at Wellington, this 11th day of December, 1922.

A PROCLAMATION.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in me by the Public Works Act, 1908, and of every other power and authority in anywise enabling me in this behalf, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare that the land described in the Schedule hereto is hereby taken for the purposes of harbour-works, and shall vest in the Tauranga Harbour Board as from the date hereinafter mentioned ; and I do also declare that this Proclamation shall take effect on and after the twentieth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-three.
