Land taken for a Further Portion of the North Auckland Main Trunk Railway, Portions of Mareretu and Waikiekie Sections, and for a Road-diversion in connection therewith.

A PROCLAMATION.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in me by the Public Works Act, 1908, and of every other power and authority in anywise enabling me in this behalf, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare that the land mentioned in the Schedule hereto is hereby taken for a further portion of the North Auckland Main Trunk Railway, portions of Mareretu and Waikiekie Sections, and for a road-diversion in connection therewith.

In the North Auckland Land District; as the same are more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 54223, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon coloured as above mentioned.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand; and issued under the Seal of that Dominion, at the Government House at Wellington, this 16th day of December, 1922.

A PROCLAMATION.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in me by the Public Works Act, 1908, and of every other power and authority in anywise enabling me in this behalf, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare that the land described in the Schedule hereto is hereby taken for the development of water-power, Lake Coleridge scheme; and I do also declare that this Proclamation shall take effect on and after the twenty-eighth day of December, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-two.

SCHEDULE.

APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land taken: 1 acre 2 roods 10 perches.

Portion of Section 2947, situated in Block X, Arowhenua Survey District (Canterbury R.D.). (S.O. 1832.)

In the Canterbury Land District; as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 55998, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon edged green.

Declaring Crown Lands in Westland-Karamea Mining District, Nelson Land District, open for Disposal on Renewable Lease.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by section one hundred and thirty-three of the Land Act, 1908, it is enacted that the Governor-General, by Proclamation, may from time to time declare any Crown lands within any mining district not held under lease or license, or for which a lease or license has been cancelled, to be open for disposal as provided in section one hundred and thirty-five of the said Act:

Now, therefore, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in exercise of the power and authority conferred upon me by the one hundred and thirty-third section of the said Act, and of every other power and authority in anywise enabling me in this behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open on Tuesday, the sixth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-three, for disposal as provided in section one hundred and thirty-five of the said Act.

SCHEDULE.

NELSON LAND DISTRICT.—WESTLAND-KARAMEA MINING DISTRICT.—NATIONAL ENDOWMENT.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Murchison County.—Burnett Survey District.

SECTIONS 1 and 2, Block IV: Area, 1,312 acres; capital value, £780; half-yearly rent, £15 12s.

Weighted with £220, valuation for felling and grassing 220 acres.

Situated in Shennandoah River Valley, thirty miles from Murchison. Access, twenty-eight miles good dray-road and two miles pack-track. Soil good on small river-flats, remainder undulating to steep hills; 220 acres felled, burnt, and grassed, but beginning to run to fern; good loam, clayey in places, sandstone formation. Forest medium to heavy, of no commercial value, comprising mixed birch, fair undergrowth of birch scrub, with a little horopito and broadleaf. Well watered. Altitude, 1,200 ft. to 2,300 ft. above sea-level.

Sections 1 and 7, Block VIII: Area, 911 acres; capital value, £600; half-yearly rent, £12.

Situated twenty-eight miles from Murchison and within one mile of a telephone-office. Warwick Junction Post-office is six miles and a half distant. Access is from Murchison, twenty-seven miles by formed metalled road and one mile newly formed dray-road unmetalled. 240 acres flat, undulating, and terrace land; remainder hillside. Soil is a good loam on flat, poor on hillside, resting on slate and granite formation. Medium forest of red and brown birch, with a light undergrowth. Well watered. Altitude rises from 1,400 ft. to 3,000 ft. above sea-level. General quality fair.

Sections 4 and 5, Block IV: Area, 723 acres; capital value, £600; half-yearly rent, £12.

Weighted with £80, valuation for improvements consisting of 110 acres felled and grassed.

Situated in Shennandoah River Valley, about thirty miles from Murchison—twenty-eight miles by formed road, two miles by bridle-track. Small flats with fair soil, remainder undulating to hillside. Soil of fair loam, sandstone formation. Forest medium to heavy, but of no commercial value, comprising mixed birch; fair undergrowth of birch scrub, horopito, &c. Well watered. General quality fair to good. Altitude, 1,200 ft. to 2,000 ft. above sea-level.

Inangahua County.—Inangahua Survey District.

Section 25, Block V: Area, 486 acres; capital value, £500; half-yearly rent, £10.

Weighted with £230, valuation for improvements consisting of four-roomed cottage in poor condition, whare, four-bail cow-shed and feed-room, 40 acres felled and grassed and 2½ acres stumped, and fifty chains of fencing.

The section is situated with a frontage on to the Reefton-Westport Road, about half a mile from Inangahua Junction Post-office and railway-station, and one mile and a half from a school. The access is from Reefton, twenty miles distant by a very good metalled road and railway. The section has a good homestead-site, on a road frontage, of about 10 acres of flat land, the remainder of the section being hillside and broken land. The whole of the section is bushclad, with the exception of 40 acres which have been felled and grassed. The soil is good on the flat, and from good to poor on hillside, resting on limestone and sandstone formation. The forest is medium to heavy, comprising mixed birch, miro, rimu, with a little matai and white-pine in gullies, with a fair undergrowth of horopito, broadleaf, and birch. Well watered. Altitude, 250 ft. to 1,700 ft. above sea-level.
