Constituting the South Canterbury Electric-power District and Outer Area.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS it is provided by section three of the Electric-power Boards Act, 1918, that any area or areas of land may be constituted an electric-power district or outer area of such district under the said Act, and in the manner therein provided:

And whereas a petition praying that the area described in Part I of the First Schedule hereto may be constituted an electric-power district under the said Act, and that the areas described in the Third Schedule hereto may be constituted an outer area of such electric-power district, and also a further petition praying that the boundaries of the proposed electric-power district be altered so as to include the area described in Part II of the First Schedule hereto, were presented to the Governor-General on the twenty-seventh day of September, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-two:

And whereas such petitions were publicly notified in the Timaru Herald dated the twenty-third day of August, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-two, the Waimate Daily Advertiser dated the twenty-seventh day of August, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-two, and the Temuka Leader dated the twenty-sixth day of August, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-two, respectively, being newspapers circulating in the proposed electric-power district:

And whereas after due inquiry the Governor-General is of opinion that the petitions should be granted subject to the proposed boundaries of the district and outer area being altered as hereinafter appears:

Now, therefore, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon me by section three of the Electric-power Boards Act, 1918, do hereby alter the proposed boundaries, and proclaim the district with the altered boundaries as described in the Second Schedule hereto to be an electric-power district, and I hereby assign to such district the name of the "South Canterbury Electric-power District"; and I do further proclaim that the area with the altered boundaries as described in the Fourth Schedule hereto shall be an outer area of such electric-power district.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

PART I.

ALL that area in the South Canterbury District commencing at a point on the sea-coast of the Ninety-mile Beach at its junction with the north-eastern boundary of Geraldine County; thence north-westerly and south-westerly along the north-eastern and north-western boundaries of Geraldine County to its junction with Mackenzie County; thence northerly, westerly, and southerly along the north-east, north-west, and west boundaries of the Mackenzie County to its junction with the western boundary of Waimate County; thence south-easterly along the southern boundary of Waimate County to the sea-coast; thence northerly along the eastern boundaries of Waimate, Levels, and Geraldine Counties and the Borough of Timaru to the commencing-point, and which area comprises the counties of Geraldine, Mackenzie, Waimate, and Levels, the boroughs of Timaru, Geraldine, and Temuka, and the Pleasant Point Town District, but excludes the Borough of Waimate.

PART II.

All that area comprised within the boundaries of the Borough of Waimate.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

SOUTH CANTERBURY ELECTRIC-POWER DISTRICT.

ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District being the County of Levels, and parts of the counties of Geraldine, Mackenzie, and Waimate, the boroughs of Geraldine, Temuka, Timaru, and Waimate, and the Town District of Pleasant Point, bounded by a line commencing at the mouth of the Rangitata River, and proceeding southerly along the high-water mark of the Canterbury Bight to the mouth of the Waitaki River; thence up that river to the western boundary of Lot 16, Reserve 191, along that boundary and the southern and western boundaries of Lot 11 to a public road, easterly along that road to the eastern boundary of Section 2, said Block XI, Waikakahi Settlement, along that boundary to a public road, thence northerly along that road to Rural Section 1726, along the western boundary of that section to its north-western corner, thence along a right line through Rural Section 16797 to the junction of roads at its north-eastern corner; thence north-easterly along a public road intersection or fronting Rural Sections 14585, 20508, 18960, to the south branch of the Waihao River, down that river to its junction with the north branch, thence up the said north branch to its source on Mount Nimrod; thence down

the Pareora River to the north-eastern boundary of Rural Section 29453, along that boundary to a public road, and north-westerly along that road fronting or intersecting Rural Sections 29453, 24960, 24959, 24196, 24195, 24831, 25425, 24248, 25044, and 20134 to a point in line with the north-eastern boundary of Section 4, Block V, Opawa Survey District; thence north-westerly, south-westerly, and again north-westerly to the north-western corner of the said Section 4; thence along a right line to a point on Fraser Road being the easternmost corner of Rural Section 36059, along the north-eastern boundary of that section to the Exe Creek, up that creek to the north-eastern boundary of Rural Section 29564, along that boundary to a public road, thence southerly along that road to the south-western boundary of said Section 29564; thence north-westerly along that boundary to Rural Section 34435, along the south-western boundaries of Sections 34435, 34434, 34433, to Lockhart Stream; thence down that stream, the Mackenzie Stream, and the Tengawai River to Rural Section 32070, along the western, northern, and eastern boundaries of that rural section, the eastern boundaries of Rural Sections 28033, 28064, 28034, and 32072 to the Tengawai River; thence down that river to Rural Section 30864, along the western boundaries generally of said Sections 30864, 25768, and 30863, the southern and western boundaries of Rural Section 31248, the southern boundary of 25146, the western boundaries generally of Rural Sections 30644, 31649, 30704, 21792, 27471, 30352, 35090, 30213, 2008, of Section 2, Block V, and of Section 1, Block II, Tengawai Survey District, to its westernmost corner; thence northerly generally along a public road and the north-eastern boundaries of Rural Sections 36086 and 36085 to its northernmost corner; thence to and along the eastern boundaries generally of Sections 2 and 1A, Ashwick Settlement, to the South Opuha River; thence crossing that river to and along the eastern boundaries of Sections 15B, 20A, 17A, and 13A, and the southern boundary of Section 4A, Sherwood Downs Settlement, to the North Opuha River; thence down that river to the northern boundary of the Raukapuka Riding, Geraldine County; thence by the northern boundary of that riding as described in New Zealand Gazette, 1883, page 878, to the Rangitata River, and down that river to its mouth, the point of commencement. As the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 55648, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon coloured red and orange as to the electric-power district, and in blue as to the outer area.

THIRD SCHEDULE.

(a.) ALL that portion of the Geraldine County bounded as follows: Commencing from the south-eastern corner of Small Grazing-run 210, Block 2, Ackland Survey District; thence by a line following the centre of the Rangitata River northwards to its junction with Forest Creek; thence by a line following the centre of Forest Creek to the one-chain road reserve to the summit of the main range; thence following the main range by Butler's Saddle, Trig. Station C, to the source of the Phantom River; thence by the Phantom River to its junction with the Orari River, Block XIII, Four Peaks Survey District; thence up the Orari River to its junction with the Mowbray River; thence up-stream by the centre of the Mowbray River to the western boundary of Tripp Settlement; thence by the western boundary of this settlement, the western boundary of Four Peaks Settlement to the Opuha River at the north-eastern corner of Rural Section 27301, Block I, Opihi Survey District; thence by the centre of the Opuha River to the boundary-line between the Mount Peel and Geraldine Ridings of the county at the south-eastern corner of Rural Section 24315, Block I, Opihi Survey District; thence north-east by the boundary of the said ridings to the south-eastern corner of Small Grazing-run 24, Block XVI, Four Peaks Survey District; thence by the eastern boundary of Small Grazing-runs 24 and 23, Block XII, Four Peaks Survey District, to a road on the western boundary of Rural Section 34445, Block XII, Four Peaks Survey District, and by that road to its junction with a road at the south-eastern corner of Rural Section 9548, Block V, Orari Survey District, to the Orari River; thence up the Orari River to the south-eastern corner of Run 4B, Block 3, Orari Survey District; thence by the eastern boundary of Run 4B 4C to the north-eastern corner of Rural Section 32893, Block 3, Orari Survey District, and the Blandswood Road; thence by the Blandswood Road to the south-eastern corner of Rural Section 1415, Block 2, Orari Survey District, to a road running parallel with the Rangitata River; thence by that road to the south-eastern corner of Rural Section 4276, and by the southern boundary of Section 4276 and the western boundaries of Sections 4276, 4556, 4457, 4036, 30936, 29281, 30937, Block IV, Ackland Survey District, to the Lynn Creek; thence by the Lynn Creek and the western boundary of Rural Section 36720 and the northern boundaries of Rural Sections 25262, 24509, 21843, to the south-eastern corner of Small Grazing-run 102, Block 2, Ackland Survey District, to the point of the commencement.
