Class C.

  1. Men in class C will be required to undergo training as follows:—
    Seamen
    Signalmen
    Wireless ratings
    Stokers
    Writers
    Victualling ratings
    Sick-berth ratings
    Wireless ratings drawn from the telegraph staff of the Post and Telegraph Department
    Artisans
    Artificers
    Motor mechanics
    As for class B seamen and stoker ratings (except wireless ratings drawn from the telegraph staff of the Post and Telegraph Department.
    Fourteen days during each alternate year of service, commencing with the first (i.e., odd years), until completion of third term of enrolment; fourteen days' training in all during fourth term; no compulsory training during fifth term.
    As for engine-room artificers (class B).

Engine-room artificers will be allowed to volunteer for a period of training not exceeding six months in each period of enrolment, in order to enable them to qualify for advancement. Subsequent periods of compulsory training during that term of enrolment may be waived when the period of voluntary training exceeds three months.

V. PAY AND ALLOWANCES WHILST UNDER TRAINING.

  1. Pay and allowances whilst under training will be granted as follows:—
    Class A.—Pay of substantive rating, acting or confirmed, and of non-substantive rating held at the termination of Naval engagement until qualified for and advanced to a higher rating, when the rate applicable to the higher rating will be payable. Pay will not be allowed for a non-substantive rating higher than gunlayer 2nd class. Pay will be allowed for good conduct badges, and deferred pay will be payable at the end of each period of training. Marriage or dependant's allowance will not be payable during periods of training.

Progressive pay will be determined by actual service, including periods of training.

Class B.—The lowest rate applicable to the equivalent ratings in the seagoing forces will be payable, together with deferred pay. Non-substantive pay will be payable from date of qualification and selection. Pay will be allowed for good-conduct badges, for which ratings may qualify.

Class C.—The lowest rate of substantive pay applicable to the equivalent ratings in the seagoing forces will be payable. Non-substantive pay will be payable from date of qualification and selection. Pay will be allowed for good-conduct badges, for which ratings may qualify.

  1. Reservists of all classes will be eligible for the payment of hard-lying money at half the rates laid down as extra pay class I in Regulations for the Government and Payment of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy (regulation No. 17), when employed in and living on board such small vessels as may be determined by the Naval Board.

VI. ANNUAL RETAINER.

  1. Classes A and B men will be eligible to receive retainers at the following rates:
    Chief and other petty officers ... ... £12 per annum.
    Other ratings ... ... £9

Retainers will be payable on the 1st January of each year, and the first payment will be calculated from the date of enrolment. The month during which the reservist joined the Reserve shall count as a full month if enrolment took place on or before the 16th of the month.

Retainers will be payable on application, accompanied by the reservist’s certificate of service, to the Registrar, R.N.R., Navy Office, Wellington. Payment will be dependent on the satisfactory completion of training for the period for which retainer is claimed.

Class C.—No retainers will be payable to men in class C.

VII. COMPENSATION FOR INJURIES.

  1. Compensation will be payable to men of all classes for injuries sustained during training, or to the dependants of men killed or drowned on service during periods of training, under the same regulations as apply to the seagoing forces.
