THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

[VIII. VICTUALLING.

  1. Men of all classes undergoing training will be accommodated in one
    of H.M. ships and victualled at Naval rates during their period of training.

IX. UNIFORM.

  1. The uniform of ratings of all classes of the Reserve will be similar
    in all respects to that of the seagoing forces, except that—
    (a.) Men will wear an “R” on each sleeve of the coat or jumper above
    the cuff, and on each side of the collar of the overcoat; and
    (b.) Men dressed as seamen will wear the R.N.R. cap ribbon.
    Ratings will wear the good-conduct and non-substantive badges to
    which they may be entitled on entry, or to which they may become entitled
    during periods of service.
    Men are not to wear their R.N.R. uniform on ordinary service in the
    mercantile marine, &c., or in their civil occupation, but only when borne
    on ship’s books for service in H.M. ships and on such occasions of ceremony
    for which approval is given for the wearing of uniform.
  2. Men will receive on entry, free of cost, the kit of their rating as
    follows :—
    Chief petty officers and men similarly dressed (Classes I and III)—
    2 serge suits, each consisting of jacket, waistcoat and trousers.
    1 uniform cap with peak, and badge.
    2 cap-covers, drill.
    2 white shirts.
    3 white collars.
    1 necktie.
    1 pair of braces.
    2 pairs socks.
    1 pair half boots.
    1 type.
    Other ratings dressed as seamen (class II)—
    2 serge suits, consisting of jumper (without cuffs) and trousers.
    2 blue jean collars.
    1 black silk handkerchief.
    1 cap, white duck.
    1 cap ribbon.
    2 pairs socks.
    1 pair half boots.
    2 flannels.
    1 type.
    1 canvas kit-bag.
    Men discharged from the seagoing forces, enrolling in the Reserve,
    will be allowed to retain their service kit-bags.
    An overall suit will be issued on loan to petty officers and men of seamen,
    stoker, artificer, and artisan classes during performance of training in H.M.
    ships.
    A set of bedding consisting of bed, blanket, bed-cover, and hammock
    (complete) will be issued on loan to men embarked for training.
  3. Men on enrolment who are in possession of any article of the
    standard kit in good condition (i.e., not more than half worn) may be
    credited with an amount representing half the current issuing-price of each
    article in their possession, in lieu of the free issue of the article in kind. A
    kit-upkeep gratuity of £1 10s. will be credited to all men on each appearance
    for compulsory training as laid down, provided kit is complete and in good
    order; except that in cases in which a man is permitted by the regulations
    to carry out a shorter period of training every year, instead of a longer
    period every alternate year, credit for the allowance will not be made
    until the man joins for the second half of this divided period.
  4. Reservists will not be issued on repayment with raw material or
    any article of uniform clothing not included in the kit laid down for their
    particular rating in the Reserve.

X. DISCIPLINE.

  1. Men of all classes will be subject to the Naval Discipline Act as
    applied to the New Zealand seagoing forces during all periods of service
    in His Majesty’s ships.

XI. DISCHARGE FROM THE RESERVE.

  1. Any man may, with the approval of the Registrar-General, be
    discharged from the Reserve for misconduct. A man so discharged will
    forfeit the portion of retaining-fee due to date of discharge, and the uniform
    clothing in his possession will be sold for the benefit of public funds.
