Opening Lands in Southland Land District for Sale or Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Tuesday, the fourteenth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-two; and also that the land mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.
SCHEDULE.
SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT.—CROWN LAND.
FIRST-CLASS LAND.
Southland County.—Waikawa Survey District.
SECTION 32, Block II: Area, 28 acres 0 roods 14 perches. Capital value, £65. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £1 12s. 6d. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £1 6s.
Situated forty-five chains from Waikawa Township by good formed road. Soil fair loam, with patches of moss; well watered by running stream. All undulating, but ploughable, with the exception of about 4 acres. Good grass land when cleared. Suitable for dairying when grassed.
SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Southland County.—Waikawa Survey District.
Section 2, Block VII: Area, 142 acres 1 rood. Capital value, £90. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £2 5s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £1 16s.
Situated about three miles from Niagara by good road, excepting about sixteen chains which is unformed. Partly open and partly bushclad, chiefly stunted kamahi. When cleared will be suitable for grazing.
Wallace County.—Jacob’s River Hundred.
Section 8, Block XXII, and Section 8A, Block XXII: Total area, 304 acres 0 roods 38 perches. Capital value, £380. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £9 10s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £7 12s.
Situated three miles and a half by formed road from Fairfax Railway-station, dairy factory, &c. Partly steep, but chiefly undulating bushclad land; worked-out sawmill area. Well watered, soil fair. Suitable for pastoral or dairying purposes when cleared.

Vesting the Control of a Scenic Reserve in the Motu Scenic Board.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon him by section thirteen of the Scenery Preservation Act, 1908, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand doth hereby vest the control of the reserve described in the Schedule hereto (being land reserved under the said Act), for the period of three years from the date hereof (unless previously altered or revoked under the said Act), in the undermentioned persons, namely,—
WILLIAM JUSTICE AMIES,
ALEXANDER STAPYLTON CAULTON,
GEORGE OSWALD DONOVAN,
RICHARD SCARBOROUGH FISHER,
FREDERICK WILLIAM PEDDLE,
PATRICK JOHN QUIRK, and
GEORGE CLIFFORD TARR,
who are hereby constituted for that purpose a special Board by the name of the Motu Scenic Board (herein referred to as “the Board”), in trust, for the preservation of scenery, and with the powers and subject to the conditions hereinafter contained, that is to say,—

The first meeting of the Board shall be held on Monday, the twentieth day of February, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-two, at eight o’clock p.m., in the Public Hall, Motu, and thereafter the Board shall meet for the transaction of business on the third Monday in each month at the time and place aforesaid, or at such other time or place as may from time to time be fixed by the Board.

The members of the Board shall at their first meeting, and thereafter at the annual meeting hereinafter mentioned, elect one of themselves to be Chairman, who may join in the discussion, and shall have an original as well as a casting vote. The Chairman shall hold office until the election of his successor.

Special meetings may be convened by the Chairman, provided that two days’ notice of such meeting is given to each member, specifying the business to be transacted at such special meeting; and no other business than that so specified shall be transacted at such meeting.

Any three members of the Board shall form a quorum. Any meeting may be adjourned from time to time.

All questions shall be determined by the majority of votes of the members of the Board present at the meeting.

If at any meeting the Chairman is not present at the time appointed for holding the same, the members present shall choose one of their number to be Chairman for such meeting.

If, by resignation, death, incapacity, or otherwise, the seat of any member shall be or become vacant, or if any member absents himself, without reasonable cause, from three consecutive meetings of the Board, the Governor-General shall have power to appoint any other person to be a member of the Board in his stead.

The Board shall prepare and submit at an annual meeting to be held in the month of April in each year a report of the proceedings of the Board for the previous year ending on the thirty-first day of March, together with a statement of the receipts and expenditure of the Board for such year. A copy of every such report and statement, certified by the Chairman to be correct, shall be sent to the Minister in Charge of Scenery Preservation as soon as possible after each annual meeting.

The Board shall control the said reserve in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and of the regulations made thereunder.

MOTU SCENIC RESERVE.—HAWKE’S BAY LAND DISTRICT.
SECTIONS 29, 34, 35, 36, and 38, Block II, Motu Survey District: Area, 49 acres 2 roods 17 perches.
