Shooting Season for Imported Game and Native Game, License Fee, &c., Rotorua Acclimatization District.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I, William Downie Stewart, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify that the following imported game and native game—viz., cock pheasants, Californian quail, Australian quail, grey duck, black teal, spoonbill duck, black swan, eastern golden plover, and turnstone—may be taken or killed within the Rotorua Acclimatization District, comprising all that area in the Auckland, Hawke’s Bay, and Wellington Land Districts bounded by a line commencing at the Puwhenua Trig. Station (situated in Block VIII, Tapapa Survey District), and proceeding north-west along a right line in the direction of Weraiti Trig. Station (situated in Block VII, Tapapa East Survey District) to a point due west from Otanewainuku Trig. Station in Block XVI, Otanewainuku; then due east along a right line to that trig. station and again due east along that line produced to a point due south of Trig. Station II in Block IV, Waihi South Survey District; then along a right line running due north through Trig. II aforesaid to high-water mark, Bay of Plenty; then along high-water mark, Bay of Plenty, in a south-easterly direction to the western side of Maraetotara Road (Block III, Whakatane Survey District); then along the western side of that road to its junction with the Nukuhou-Maraetotara Road (Whakatane–Opotiki main road); then along the western side of the last-named road to its junction with the Nukuhou (Waimana–Ohiwi) Road; then along the western side of that road to the “confiscation line”; then south-easterly along the north-eastern boundary-line of Waimana 1B Block; then along the north-eastern and south-eastern boundaries of Section 21, Block IV, Waimana Survey District, and the south-eastern side of Waimana 1C and 1D to Paitaua; then along the south-western boundary of Waimana 1D Block to the Waimana or Tauranga River; then up that river to its source; then south-westerly along summit of range to Maungapohatu Trig. Station; then south-easterly along a right line in the direction of Puketapu Trig. Station to its intersection with the Ruakituri River in Block VII, Tuahu Survey District; then down that river to the northern boundary of S.G.R. 84, and then along the northern boundary of said S.G.R. 84 and along the northern and south-eastern boundaries of Section 1, Block VIII, Tuahu Survey District, to the Gisborne–Waikaremoana Road; then north-easterly along the middle of that road to Bushy Knoll Road; then along the middle of that road to the northernmost corner of Section 2, Block IX, Hangaroa Survey District; then along the eastern boundary of Section 1, Block IX aforesaid; then south-easterly generally along the north-eastern boundaries of Sections 3 and 4, Block IX aforesaid; then north-easterly along the north-western boundary of Tauwharetoi 4B Block; then along the north-eastern boundaries of said block and Tauwharetoi 3B Block, and along the south-eastern boundary of Tauwharetoi 3A Block to the Hangaroa River; then down the middle of that river to its confluence with the Ruakiture River; then along a right line to the sea at Paritu (Block XIII, Paritu Survey District); then southerly along high-water mark of the sea to the southernmost point of Mahia Peninsula; then along high-water mark, Hawke’s Bay, to Moeangiangi (Block XI, Moeangiangi Survey District); then up a leading spur and along the southern watershed of the Waikare River to the summit of Taraponui Mountain; then down a leading spur to the confluence of the Mohaka and Waipunga Rivers; then along a right line to the summit of Tataroakina Mountain; then along the eastern watershed of the Mokomokonui Stream to the summit of Pohokura Mountain; then along a right line running due east to Pukahunui or Hautapu Stream; then up a leading spur and along the western watershed of Te Hoe River to Maungataniwha Trig. Station (Tuatawhata Survey District); then along the north-eastern boundary of Heruiwi No. 4 Block to its intersection with a right line running from the northernmost point of Lake Waikaremoana through a point 180 chains due north of Maungataniwha Trig. Station; then south-westerly along that line to the Taupo–Napier Road; then along a right line to the north-western corner of Wharetoto No. 8 Subdivision B Block (Block V, Maruanui Survey District); then down the Taharua and Mohaka Rivers to a point in line with Trig. Stations 68A and 65A; then along that line to said Trig. Station 65A; then westerly along a right line to Trig. Station 26, Tawaki Tohunga, in Block XII, Mangamaire Survey District; then south-westerly along a right line to Trig. Station 27; then westerly along a right line to Trig. Station 28, Manukaiapu; then north-westerly along a right line to Ruapehu Trig. Station; then north-easterly along a right line to Paretetaitonga Trig. Station; then towards the north-east along a right line to Ngaruhoe Trig. Station; then northerly along a right line to Tongariro Trig. Station; then north-easterly along a right line in the direction of the mouth of the Waihi Stream, Lake Taupo, to the Wanganui River; then down the middle of that river to the western boundary of the Waione Block, and northerly along that boundary to Maungaku Trig. Station; then northerly along a mountain-range passing through Hauhangaroa, Motere, Tuhingamata, and Weraroa Trig. Stations to the source of the Ongaruhe River; then north-westerly along a right line to Rangitoto Mountain; and then north-easterly along a right line to Puwhenua Trig. Station, the place of commencement; (except in the areas mentioned in the Schedule hereto) from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-two, to the thirtieth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-two (both days inclusive). And I do further notify that licenses to take or kill such imported game and native game within the said district will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings each; and the General Manager of the Tourist and Health Resorts Department, Wellington, or any person authorized by the said General Manager in that behalf, is hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

And I do hereby restrict the number of such imported game and native game that may be taken or killed by any one person in any one day to not more than ten cock pheasants and twenty-five head in all of grey duck, black teal, spoonbill duck, black swan, eastern golden plover, and turnstone; and that no live birds of any species shall be used as decoys, nor shall more than twenty artificial decoys be used at any one time, whether by one or several persons, on any particular water, within an area of less than one hundred square yards.

A boat may be used to shoot from or for the purpose of recovering game previously shot, provided such boat is not dressed or covered in any way.

Nothing in any license to take or kill imported game and native game shall authorize the holder thereof to take or kill imported game and native game on lands actually and exclusively used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain, or any land mentioned in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

ADDITIONAL AREAS WHEREIN IMPORTED GAME AND NATIVE GAME MAY NOT BE TAKEN OR KILLED.

  1. LAKES Ngahewa, Okataina, Rotokawa or Bitter Lake near Taupo, and Rotoaira, and the land within one mile of the shores of these lakes.

  2. All land within one mile of the Okere Wharf.

  3. Lagoons on F. Seccombe’s property, Whakatane County.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I, William Downie Stewart, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify that the following imported game and native game—viz., mallard duck, grey duck, black teal, and black swan—may be taken or killed within the South Canterbury Acclimatization District, comprising the Counties of Geraldine and Levels, and that portion of the County of Mackenzie lying to the east of a line commencing at Mount Cook and proceeding by a right line over the Ball Hut to the Tasman Glacier, then along the western boundary of the Tasman Glacier to the Tasman River, then by a line along the middle of that river, and the middle of Lake Pukaki, and the middle of Pukaki River to the Waitaki River, together with the Boroughs of Geraldine, Timaru, and Temuka, from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-two, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-two (both days inclusive). And I do further notify that licenses to take or kill such imported game and native game within the said district will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings each; and the secretary of the said North Canterbury Acclimatization Society, or any person authorized by such secretary in that behalf, is hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

And I do further notify that licenses to take or kill grey duck, black teal, and black swan within the said district will be issued to any person by the said secretary, or person authorized by such secretary in that behalf, on payment of the sum of ten shillings each.

And I do hereby restrict the number of such imported game and native game that may be taken or killed by any one person in any one day to not more than twelve mallard duck and twenty-five head in all of grey duck, black teal, and black swan.
