SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.

FRIENDLY ISLANDS, TONGATABU.

(1.) Nukualofa Anchorage.—Existence of Beacon and Flagstaff.

(a.) Beacon:—
Position.—On the south-eastern edge of Ulanga uta, at a distance of approximately 1·50 cables, 085°, from the white beacon shown on the charts.
Lat. 21° 07′ S., long. 175° 12′ W. (approx.).
Description.—A white beacon on three piles, with white cylindrical topmark.

(b.) Flagstaff:—
Position.—On the northern end of Maka haa, and approximately 7.30 cables, 262°, from the white beacon situated on the eastern side of the southern entrance to the Narrows.
Lat. 21° 07′ S., long. 175° 09′ W. (approx.).
Description.—A conspicuous flagstaff.

(2.) Egeria Channel.—Buoys established.

(a.) Position.—On the 2-fathom shoal situated about 2¾ cables north-westward of Friday shoal.
Lat. 21° 02′ S., long. 175° 15′ W. (approx.).
Description.—A black cylindrical buoy.

(b.) Position.—On Friday shoal.
Description.—A black cylindrical buoy.

(c.) Position.—On Johnnie shoal.
Description.—A black cylindrical buoy.

(d.) Position.—On Campbell rock, situated about one mile south-eastward of Atata.
Lat. 21° 04′ S., long. 175° 14′ W. (approx.).
Description.—A black can bouy (inconspicuous).

FIJI ISLANDS.—VITI LEVU.—CHANGES IN AIDS.

(a.) The white buoy marking the north-western elbow of the fringing reef off Mbekana Island no longer exists.
Approx. position: 17° 35′ S., 177° 26′ E.

(b.) The white buoy marking the western end of Malevu Reef has been replaced by an iron staff beacon.
Approx. position: 17° 29′ S., 177° 31′ E.

(c.) The white buoy marking Hood Reef has been replaced by an iron staff beacon.
Approx. position: 17° 27′ S., 177° 35′ E.

(d.) The black buoy moored on the edge of the 3-fathom contour line northward of Ba River mouth has been replaced by an iron tripod beacon.
Approx. position: 17° 25′ S., 177° 40′ E.

BRAZIL.

NORTH-EAST COAST.

Punta do Mel Light.—Alteration in Character.

Position.—Lat. 4° 57′ S., long. 36° 53′ W. (approx.).
New abridged description.—Lt. F. & Fl. ev. 30 sec., 323 ft., vis. 24 m.
Alteration.—The character of the light has been altered from flashing white to fixed and flashing white every thirty seconds.

ARGENTINA.

GUEGUEN.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.

Position.—On the eastern side of Rio Gueguen entrance.
Lat. 38° 34′ 03″ S., long. 58° 40′ 30″ W.
Abridged description.—Lt. Gp. Fl. (3) ev. 20 sec., 204 ft., vis. 20 m. (U).

Characteristics:—
Character.—Group flashing white showing three flashes every twenty seconds, thus: Flash, 0·25 sec.; eclipse, 3·75 sec.; flash, 0·25 sec.; eclipse, 3·75 sec.; flash, 0·25 sec.; eclipse, 11·75 sec.
Elevation.—204 ft. (62m2).
Visibility.—20 miles.
Structure.—Black tower on white base, 100 ft. (30m5) in height.
Remarks.—The light is unwatched.

AUSTRALIA.

TORRES STRAIT APPROACH.

Merkara Shoal—Light-Vessel, South-westward of, to be expunged from Charts.

Position.—At a distance of about 20 miles south-westward from Merkara shoal.
Lat. 10° 40′ S., long. 140° 55′ E. (approx.).
Remarks.—Owing to the indefinite postponement of the establishment of the “Carpentaria” light-vessel it is now to be expunged from the charts.

EASTERN ARCHIPELAGO.—JAVA SEA.

WILLEM ISLAND REEF TO BE EXPUNGED FROM CHART NO. 1696.

Position.—Lat. 6° 34′ S., long. 116° 42′ E. (approx.).
Details.—Willem Island reef is to be expunged from chart No. 1696.

BAY OF BENGAL.

BURMA, GULF OF MARTABAN.

Rangoon River and Approach.—Alterations in Light-Vessels.

(1.) Alteration in position and name of light-vessel:—
New position.—At a distance of about 23 miles south-westward from former position, and 10 miles, 180°, from China Bakir lighthouse.
Lat. 16° 07′ N., long. 96° 11′ E. (approx.).
Alteration.—The former “Spit” light-vessel with fixed white light has been moved to the position given above and renamed “China Bakir.” The characteristics of the light are unaltered.

(2.) New light-vessel established:—
Position.—In the position hitherto occupied by the “Spit” light-vessel.
Lat. 16° 27′ N., long. 96° 22′ E. (approx.).
Characteristics:—
(a.) Light—
Abridged description.—Lt., F., vis. 10 m.
Character.—Fixed white.
Visibility.—10 miles.

(b.) Vessel—
Description.—The vessel is a native brig carrying lower masts only; the hull is painted red, with “Spit” in white on sides.

Special Regulations for Deer-shooting, Rotorua Acclimatization District (Galatea Red Deer Area).

JELLICOE, Governor-General.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby make the following regulations prescribing the conditions under which certain red deer may be destroyed in that part of the Rotorua Acclimatization District known as the Galatea Red Deer Area, which includes all that land lying within a radius of fifteen miles from the homestead of H. E. Troutbeck, of Galatea.

REGULATIONS.

  1. NOTWITHSTANDING anything contained in the Animals Protection Act, 1908, the General Manager of the Department of Tourist and Health Resorts, or any person or persons duly authorized in writing by such General Manager, may, during the period hereinafter mentioned, kill red deer of either sex and of any age which, in the opinion of the said General Manager or of the said authorized persons, should be destroyed either by reason of age, deformity, or any other reason.

  2. Such deer may be destroyed as aforesaid from the date hereof to the 30th June, 1922 (both days inclusive).

  3. A return shall be furnished to the Minister of Internal Affairs by the said General Manager within one calendar month after the expiry of the aforesaid period, and such return shall state the number and sexes of all red deer so destroyed as aforesaid, the dates, and name of person by whom and the locality in which the deer were destroyed.

  4. Nothing herein contained shall extend to authorizing any person to sell any deer or any portion thereof.

  5. Any person who commits a breach of any of the provisions of these regulations shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding £20.
