Notice to Mariners.—No. 52 of 1921.

THE following Notices to Mariners, which have been received from the Hydrographic Office, London, and the Department of Trade and Customs, Melbourne, are published for general information.

SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.
FIJI ISLANDS, VITI LEVU.—SUVA HARBOUR.—CAUTION WITH REGARD TO VESSELS ANCHORING.
Position.—Grand Pacific Hotel, lat. 18° 9' S., long. 178° 26' E. (approx.).
Details.—Vessels are warned not to anchor in Suva Harbour between two lines drawn as follows:-
(i.) From a position situated 13 cables, 314°, from the Grand Pacific Hotel chimney in a 121° direction.
(ii.) From a position situated 12·8 cables, 304°, from the same chimney in a 116° direction.
Remarks.—The above limits are to be shown in pecked lines on the charts, with the note “(See Cautionary Note),” and the following note is to be inserted in a conspicuous position near the title of the chart:
CAUTION,
Vessels are warned not to anchor between the pecked lines in Suva Harbour, owing to the existence of telegraph cables.
AUSTRALIA.
EAST COAST.—BROOK ISLANDS (SOUTH ISLAND).—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.
Mariners and others are hereby notified that the group flashing white light (U) on South Brook Island has been established.
Position.—On the summit of South Brook Island. Lat. 18° 9¼' S., long. 146° 18¼' E., on Chart No. 2349.
Character.—Group flashing white light, showing four flashes every twelve seconds, thus: Flash ⅓ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ⅓ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ⅓ sec., eclipse 7⅔ secs.
Elevation.—165 ft.
Visibility.—18 miles. Visible all round the horizon, except where obscured by North Brook Island, from approximately 122° (S. 65° E. mag.) to 132° (S. 55° E. mag.).
Power.—3,000 candles.
Structure.—Red frame-work tower 54 ft. in height.
Remarks.—The light is unwatched.
Note.—No further notice will be given.
NORTHUMBERLAND ISLANDS.—HIGH PEAK ISLAND.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.
Mariners and others are hereby notified that the flashing white light (U) on the summit of the islet off High Peak Island has been established.
Position.—On the summit of the islet, close to eastern extreme of High Peak Island. Lat. 21° 57' S., long. 150° 42½' E., on Chart No. 808.
Character.—Flashing white light, every five seconds, thus : flash ½ sec., eclipse 4½ secs.
Elevation.—208 ft.
Visibility.—20 miles, from 110° (S. 78° E. mag.) through south to 37° (N. 29° E. mag.); obscured elsewhere by High Peak Island and adjacent islands.
Power.—5,000 candles.
Structure.—Square concrete house, with white lantern 22 ft. in height.
Remarks.—The light is unwatched.
Note.—No further notice will be given.
QUEENSLAND. — ADOLPHUS CHANNEL. — ALBANY ROCK. — LIGHT TO BE ESTABLISHED.
Date of Establishment.—On or about 15th September, 1921.
Position.—On the summit of Albany Rock. Lat. 10° 43′ 10″ S., long. 142° 37′ 42″ E. (approx.).
Abridged Description.—(U) Lt. fl. W.R. ev. 5 secs., vis. 15 and 8 m.
Character.—Flashing, with white and red sectors, every five seconds, thus : Flash 0·5 sec., eclipse 4·5 secs.
Elevation.—Not stated.
Visibility.—White light, 15 miles ; red light, 8 miles.
Sectors.—White from 116° through south to 339°; red elsewhere, except where obscured by adjacent islands.
Power.—White light, 3,000 candles; red light, 1,200 candles.
Structure.—Square concrete house, with white lantern 22 ft. (6·7 m.) in height.
Remarks.—The light will be unwatched.

AUCKLAND HARBOUR.—REMOVAL OF BUOY.

Wellington, 4th October, 1921.
THE Auckland Harbour Board notifies that the black buoy which marked the eastern boundary of the area prescribed for yacht anchorages off Judges Bay has now been moved to a position 700 ft. eastward of its former position, with Mount Victoria Flagstaff 11° and Bean Rock Lighthouse 67½°. The distance between the black buoy and the north-eastern corner of Orakei Wharf is one nautical mile.

Notice to Mariners.—No. 54 of 1921.
THAMES HARBOUR.—DREDGING IN PROGRESS.
THE Thames Harbour Board notifies that dredging will be in progress off the Burke Street Wharf on and after the 7th October, 1921, for a period of about three months.
A Priestman dredger, with two punts, will be in operation at a distance of 400 ft. from Burke Street Wharf, and will work inwards.
It is intended to dredge a channel to the wharf for 400 ft.; afterwards deepening the berthage alongside the wharf for a length of 250 ft., both of which channels shall have a width of 75 ft.
The dredger will have four moorings laid, and between the hours of sunset and sunrise will exhibit a white light visible all round the horizon for a distance of at least one mile. The punts will be similarly lighted.
