Change of Name of Locality “Cabbage Bay” to “Colville,” and of Bay “Cabbage Bay” to “Colville Bay.”

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS settlers in the locality known as “Cabbage Bay,” in the County of Coromandel, desire that the name of such locality, and of the bay adjacent thereto also known as “Cabbage Bay,” should be changed to “Colville” and “Colville Bay” respectively, and it is considered expedient to alter the same:

Now, therefore, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred on me by the Designation of Districts Act, 1908, and of all other powers and authorities enabling me in this behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that the name of the locality now known as “Cabbage Bay” and that the name of the bay now known as “Cabbage Bay,” in the County of Coromandel, shall be and the same are hereby altered to “Colville” and “Colville Bay” respectively, and do assign the last-mentioned names to such locality and such bay accordingly; and also do hereby proclaim and declare that this Proclamation shall take effect on the first day of March, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-two, not being earlier than six months after the first publication thereof in the Gazette.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand; and issued under the Seal of that Dominion, at the Government House at Wellington, this 19th day of August, 1921.

Declaring Crown Lands in the Karamea and Westland Mining Districts, Nelson Land District, open for Disposal on Renewable Lease.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by section one hundred and thirty-three of the Land Act, 1908, it is enacted that the Governor-General, by Proclamation, may from time to time declare any Crown lands within any mining district not held under lease or license, or for which a lease or license has been cancelled, to be open for disposal, as provided in section one hundred and thirty-five of the said Act:

Now, therefore, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in exercise of the power and authority conferred upon me by section one hundred and thirty-three of the said Act, and of every other power and authority in anywise enabling me in this behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that the sections of land described in the Schedules hereto shall be open on Monday, the fifth day of December, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-one, for disposal on renewable lease, as provided in section one hundred and thirty-five of the said Act; and I do also declare that, for the purposes of section one hundred and twenty-seven of the said Act, the sections of land described in the First Schedule hereto shall be deemed to be heavy-bush land, the lands in the Second Schedule shall be light-bush land, and the lands in the Third Schedule shall be scrub lands.

And I do hereby provide that, after the first half-year’s rent has been paid by the selector, the further instalments of rent payable by him for periods of four years in the case of the heavy-bush land in the First Schedule, three months in the case of the light-bush land in the Second Schedule, or two years in the case of the scrub land described in the Third Schedule shall not be demanded; provided that if at any time during the first five years of his occupancy the selector disposes of his interest in the land the rent so conceded shall be paid by him in full, and thereupon the Land Board may remit such instalments of rent payable by the incoming tenant, not exceeding in the aggregate the amount of rent previously conceded to the selector, as the Board thinks fit.

FIRST SCHEDULE.
(Exempt from Rent for Four Years.)

KARAMEA MINING DISTRICT.—HEAVY-BUSH LAND.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.—NATIONAL ENDOWMENT.

Buller County.—Brighton Survey District.

SECTION 3, Block V: Area, 245 acres; capital value, £190; half-yearly rent, £3 16s.

Situated on south side of Fox’s River, about one mile from its mouth. Access difficult, as frontage does not come down to river, it lies one mile from Tiramōana Post-office along river-bed, and is thirty-two miles from Westport. Steep slopes from river to high hills, all bush, broken terrace country. Soil fair quality, on limestone formation. The forest is heavy, mostly rimu, birch, kamahi, rata, with dense undergrowth of kamahi, kiekie, supplejacks, &c. Watered by creeks. Elevation ranges from 150 ft. to 1,000 ft. above sea-level.

Buller County.—Otumahana Survey District.

Section 23, Block IX: Area, 178 acres; capital value, £230; half-yearly rent, £4 12s.

Situated on Seddonville–Karamea Road, two miles and three-quarters from Te Namu Post-office and three miles and a half from a school. Access fronts main Karamea Road twenty miles distant from Seddonville Railway-station and four miles from Little Wanganui Wharf. About 50 acres good flat land, balance undulating to hilly, all bush. Soil good quality, resting on papa and limestone formation. Heavy bush, consisting of red and white pine, birch, and a few matai, also fair undergrowth of pungas, broadleaf, birch, kamahi, &c. Well watered by creeks. Elevation, 150 ft. to 450 ft. above sea-level. The general quality of the section is good.

SECOND SCHEDULE.
(Exempt from Rent for Three Years.)

KARAMEA MINING DISTRICT,

SWAMP LAND.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Buller County.—Waitakere Survey District.

SECTION 41, Block II: Area, 869 acres; capital value, £350; half-yearly rent, £7.

Situated about seven miles south of Westport fronting the Westport–Charleston Road, one mile from school and post-office. Access from Addison’s Flat one mile distant. All pakihi land, carrying small rush. Practically all flat land broken by terraces, with a few patches of scrub. Soil poor, on sandstone formation; well watered. Altitude, 80 ft. to 250 ft. above sea-level.

Buller County.—Steeple and Kawatiri Survey District.

Section 10, Block IV, and Section 33, Block VII: Area, 193 acres 3 roods 26 perches; capital value, £100; half-yearly rent, £2. (National endowment.)

Situated two miles and a half from Westport by metalled road. All flat open pakihi land, carrying small rush, suitable for grazing. Poor soil, on sandstone formation; well watered. Elevation, 80 ft. to 150 ft. above sea-level.

LIGHT-BUSH LAND.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.—NATIONAL ENDOWMENT.

Buller County.—Otumahana Survey District.

Section 1, Block X, Section 3, Block VI, and Section 6, Block VI: Area, 1,986 acres; capital value, £1,000; half-yearly rent, £20.

Situated on the southern side of Little Wanganui River, about four miles and a half from main Karamea Road. Access from Te Namu Post-office six miles and a half distant, three miles and a half metalled road, balance horse-track. Section contains 105 acres second-growth, balance all bush. The land is undulating, with flats along creeks. Soil poor quality, granite subsoil, resting on papa formation. Forest light to heavy, consisting of black and brown birch, kamahi, rimu, and miro, with dense undergrowth of kamahi, kiekie, supplejack, birch, &c. Well watered. General quality poor. Altitude, 500 ft. to 1,000 ft. above sea-level.

Buller County.—Kongahu Survey District.

Section 6, Block VI: Area, 494 acres; capital value, £330; half-yearly rent, £6 12s.

Situated on west of the Karamea–Seddonville Road five miles from Corbyvale Post-office and school by good metalled road. All heavy bush, easy to steep hills; 8 acres were felled and grassed, now covered with second growth. Bush consists chiefly of mixed birch, kamahi, and a few rimu, with a light undergrowth of kamahi, birch, &c. Well watered by creeks. Elevation, 250 ft. to 600 ft. above sea-level.

LIGHT-BUSH LAND.—THIRD-CLASS LAND.—NATIONAL ENDOWMENT.

Buller County.—Waitakere Survey District.

Section 2, Block IV: Area, 991 acres; capital value, £250; half-yearly rent, £5.

Situated on the main Charleston–Westport Road; access from Westport, which is ten miles distant. The section comprises 20 acres of light bush consisting of small rimu, birch, and dead yellow-pine; balance open pakihi land covered with short rushes and patches of manuka. Soil is of a dark damp nature, resting on cement formation; well watered. Elevation ranges from 180 ft. to 260 ft. above sea-level.
