CROWN LANDS NOTICES.
Land in Nelson Land District forfeited.

NOTICE is hereby given that the leases and licenses of the undermentioned lands having been declared forfeited by resolution of the Nelson Land Board, the said lands have thereby reverted to the Crown, under the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

Land in Wellington Land District for Sale or Lease to Discharged Soldiers.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are open for sale or selection under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the regulations thereunder; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Tuesday, the 27th September, 1921.
The lands may be purchased for cash or on deferred payments, or selected on lease for sixty-six years, with right of renewal for further successive terms of sixty-six years and a right to acquire the freehold.
Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, on Wednesday, the 28th September, 1921, at 10 o’clock a.m. The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.
Mr. Georgetti, a member of the Land Board, will be in Taumarunui on Tuesday, the 20th September, for the purpose of examining applicants who find it inconvenient to be at the ballot in Wellington, and will advise them as to their applications.

Exempt from Rent and Rates for Four Years.
Section 2, Block II: Area, 729 acres 2 roods; capital value, £1,190; annual instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £59 10s.; half-yearly rent on lease, £26 15s. 6d.
SPECIAL CONDITION.
The successful applicants for Sections 12 and 13, Block III, Retaruke, will be required to take a lease or license of Sections 17 and 18 respectively, according to the tenure on which they select Sections 12 and 13, at a capital value of £410 for Section 17, and £530 for Section 18.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION.
This land was formerly part of the Wanganui River Trust Domain, from which the reservation has been removed.
It is situated on the left bank of the Wanganui River, about twenty-two miles south of Taumarunui and fifty-three miles north of Pipiriki. The northern portion of the block is accessible by motor-road about twenty-four miles distant. Access to the southern portion is from Raurimu by motor-road about thirty miles distant. The land consists of level, undulating, and hilly country, portions in grass, fern, and manuka, but principally under mixed bush of tawa, tawhero, rimu, hinau, rata, pukatea, matai, &c., with usual amount of undergrowth.
Sections are well watered throughout. Land will make good grazing and fattening country when cleared and grassed. Incoming tenants are liable for half value of boundary fences under Fencing Act.
There is a bi-weekly local service on the upper reaches of the river throughout the winter months, tri-weekly during the summer.
There are bi-weekly mails to post and telegraph offices at Whakahoro (Retaruke), Houseboat, Kokakoriki, and Kirikau (Kokakonui).
All the land adjoining to the east is already broken in and successfully settled.
The land on the right bank of the Wanganui River is also settled, with the exception of the block of Crown land below Houseboat and Otuiti, which is now being subdivided for settlement.
There are regular stock sales at Taumarunui and Owhango. There is a school building at Retaruke Mouth, though classes have not been held there for a year as the attendance had fallen.
DESCRIPTION OF SECTIONS.
Section 1, Block III, Retaruke.—Access from Taumarunui by formed road available generally by motor traffic. The section comprises standing bush, with approximately 40 acres of flat land in grass, manuka, and ferns. Soil is of light loam, on papa and sandstone formation. Section is very well watered by running streams. Elevation from 400 ft. to 1,400 ft. above sea-level.
Section 6, Block III, Retaruke.—Section is situated on both sides of Kokakonui Road, about twenty-five miles from Taumarunui by motor-road, and is also adjacent to Kirikau Landing and within half a mile from Kokakoriki Landing. Section comprises broken country in bush, with small flats on both road frontages in grass, manuka, and bracken. Section is well watered by permanent streams. Elevation from 500 ft. to 1,300 ft. above sea-level.
Sections 3 and 9, Block III, Retaruke.—Section 3 is situated on Kirikau Point opposite Otuitu Stream on Wanganui, and is about twenty miles from Taumarunui by motor-road. Section 9 is situated back from Wanganui Valley Road and opposite Pehimahaki Point, and access is from Kokakoriki Landing one mile and a half by formed and partly formed road. Section comprises broken bush country of light loam. Section is well watered by permanent streams. Elevation, 500 ft. to 1,445 ft. above sea-level.
Section 12, Block III, Retaruke.—Section is situated on eastern side of the Wanganui Valley Road just above Houseboat. Access from Houseboat Landing half a mile distant. Land comprises easy undulating country, 200 acres being under grass, fern, and manuka; balance in virgin bush. Quality of soil is of a good light loam, on clay and sandstone formation. Section is well watered by permanent streams. Elevation from 450 ft. to 750 ft. above sea-level. Section 17 (area, 218 acres) is to be added when milling is completed. Subject to rights to do all things necessary to remove timber from Section 17 along right-of-way as shown on plan.
