Land in the Canterbury Land District for Sale or Lease to Discharged Soldiers.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Christchurch, 24th January, 1921.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are open for sale or lease under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the regulations thereunder; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Tuesday, the 8th day of March, 1921.

The land may be purchased for cash or on deferred payments, or selected on lease for thirty-three years, with right of renewal for further successive terms of thirty-three years and a right to acquire the freehold.

Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, on Thursday, the 10th of March, 1921, at 10 o’clock a.m.

The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.

SCHEDULE.

CANTERBURY LAND DISTRICT.—FIRST-CLASS LAND.

DESCRIPTION OF SECTIONS.

Section 1.—Distant three miles and a half from Lauriston Railway-station and post-office. All flat land, well watered, subdivided into six workable paddocks and five small paddocks around homestead; 44 acres of wheat stubble, balance of 206½ acres in good English grass; approached by good metalled road. The section is weighted with £900 for improvements, comprising house (£575), eight-stall stable and loft (£275), and sheep-yards and dip (£50), which may be paid for in cash or by twenty-eight half-yearly instalments of £45 9s. Half-yearly payment on lease, £175 19s.

Section 2.—Distant two miles from Lauriston Railway-station by good metalled road. All flat land, well watered by good water-races; 34 acres of wheat stubble, balance of 224 acres is down in grass. A cottage and small outhouse is on the section, and the section is subdivided into five paddocks, all fenced by gorse hedges. Weighted with £400 for building, comprising cottage, outhouse, and implement-shed (the shed to be removed from Section 1), which may be paid for in cash or by twenty-eight half-yearly instalments of £20 4s. Total half-yearly payment on lease, £143 1s.

Section 3.—Distant half a mile from Lauriston Railway-station. Subdivided into two paddocks, and watered by water-races; 57 acres is in grass, and 55 acres in oat stubble in the southern paddock. The northern paddock consists of 55 acres of wheat stubble, and the balance skimmed land. All flat land, and fenced by good gorse hedges. Approached by good metalled road from Lauriston. Weighted with £150 for buildings, comprising shearing-implement shed and two-roomed whare (to be removed from Section 1), which may be paid for in cash or by twenty-eight half-yearly instalments of £7 11s. 6d. Total half-yearly payment on lease, £96 4s. 6d.

Section 4.—Subdivided into two paddocks; the southern paddock is down in grass, and the northern paddock in oat and wheat stubble. Section adjoins the Methven—Rakaia Road and railway-station, and is all flat land, well fenced by gorse hedges, and well watered by water-races north and south. Weighted with £160 for buildings, comprising loose-boxes, two stalls, harness-room (attached to main stable), chaff-house, wash-house, coal-house, and dairy (to be removed from Section 1); these may be paid for in cash or in twenty-eight half-yearly instalments of £8 1s. 7d. Total half-yearly payment on lease, £99 8s. 7d.

IMPROVEMENTS.

The improvements that go with the land are boundary and subdivisional fencing valued as follows: Section 1, 378 chains, £217; Section 2, 326 chains, £176; Section 3, 245 chains, £117; Section 4, 245 chains, £120.

The straw from the crops will be stacked on the ground, and is to be divided equally among the four successful applicants.

The lands may be purchased for cash or on deferred payments, or selected on lease for a term of thirty-three years, with right of renewal for further terms of thirty-three years and a right to acquire the freehold.

Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, on Wednesday, the 30th day of March, 1921, at 10 o’clock a.m.; but if any applicant so desires he may be examined by the Land Board of any other district.

The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.

Situated about half a mile from Hornby Railway-station, and is the centre of several manufacturing industries, which should supply outside employment.

All flat agricultural land, recently grassed. Suitable for bee and poultry farming.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned pastoral run is open for license by discharged soldiers under Part VI of the Land Act, 1908, and the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and amendments.

Applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Tuesday, the 29th day of March, 1921.
