appointments in the Public Service :—
ADAM HARVEY LAYBOURN
to be Registrar of Births and Deaths for the district of
Ngaruawahia (at Taupiri), as from the 8th June, 1921.
JOSEPH WALTER BURLEY
to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Horoera,
as from the 31st May, 1921.

to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Kenana,
as from the 23rd June, 1921.

Plant declared to be a Noxious Weed by the Waitemata County
Council.—Notice No. 2068.

IT is hereby notified, for public information, that the
Waitemata County Council has, by special order, de-
clared hawthorn to be a noxious weed within the meaning of
the Noxious Weeds Act, 1908, in the district under its juris-
diction.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of (1) Hairdressers' and (2) To-
bacconists' Shops in the Borough of Carterton, under the
Shops and Offices Act, 1908.
WHEREAS a requisiton in writing, signed by a majority
of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades
of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist in the Borough of
Carterton has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such
shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-
days as follows: Subject to closing not later than 1 p.m. on
the day observed as the statutory closing-day, on Mondays,
Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8 p.m.,
and on Tuesdays at 5.30 p.m., with the exception that in the
evening of the working-day that first precedes any of the
special days (other than Christmas Day and New Year's Day)
mentioned in or coming within the meaning of section 19 of
the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, the closing-hour shall be
9 p.m., and in the evening of the working-day that first
precedes Christmas Day and in the evening of the working-
day that first precedes New Year's Day the closing-hour
shall be 10 p.m. :
And whereas, I, George James Anderson, Minister of
Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition
represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each
of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist within the
Borough of Carterton :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops
and Offices Act, 1908, I do hereby direct that on and after
the 21st day of July, 1921, all the shops in each of the trades
of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist in the Borough of
Carterton shall be closed accordingly.
The notice gazetted on the 9th May, 1918, fixing the closing-
hours of hairdressers’ and tobacconists’ shops in the Borough
of Carterton is hereby cancelled as from the date of the
coming into operation of this notice.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Block II, Rangitaiki
Upper Survey District, for the more Effective Carrying-out
of the Drainage or other Works authorized by the Rangitaiki
Land Drainage Act, 1910, and for the Better Disposal of
Crown or other Land within the District defined by the
said Act.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under
the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, and
the Rangitaiki Land Drainage Act, 1910, to take the land
described in the Schedule hereto for the more effective
carrying-out of the drainage or other works authorized by
the latter Act, and for the better disposal of Crown or
other land within the district defined by the latter Act.
And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the
land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office
at Te Teko, and is there open for inspection; and that all
persons affected by the taking of the said land should, if
they have any well-grounded objections to the taking of
such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such
writing, within forty days from the first publication of this
notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

particularly delineated on the plans marked and coloured
as above mentioned, and deposited in the office of the
Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington
Land District.

IX, Waihua Survey Districts, for the Purposes of a Road.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the
provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to execute
a certain public work—to wit, the construction of a road
in Blocks XII, Mohaka, and IX, Waihua Survey Districts;
and for the purposes of such public work the land described
in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice
is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required
to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Mohaka, and is
there open for inspection ; and that all persons affected by
the execution of the said public work or by the taking of
the said land should, if they have any well-grounded ob-
jections to the execution of the said public work or to the
taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and
send such writing, within forty days from the first pub-
lication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at
Wellington.
