ARGENTINA.

RIO DE LA PLATA.—RECALADA LIGHT-VESSEL.—ALTERATION IN LIGHT AND DESCRIPTION OF VESSEL.

Position.—At the entrance to Indio Channel. Lat. 35° 11′ S., long. 56° 18′ W. (approx.).

Alteration.—The light-vessel has been replaced by a new light-vessel having the undermentioned characteristics :—

(a.) Light :

New Abridged Description.—Lt. fl. ev. 8 secs., 44 ft., vis. 12 m.

Character.—Flashing white every eight seconds, thus: Flash 1 sec., eclipse 7 secs.

Elevation.—44 ft. (13·4 m.).

Visibility.—12 miles.

(b.) Fog-signal :

Description.—The fog-signal is similar to that of the old light-vessel, i.e., a siren, operated by compressed air, sounding one blast every minute, thus: Blast 5 secs., silent 55 secs.

(c.) Vessel :

Description.—The vessel has two masts, with a metal light-tower between them; the hull is painted in black and red bands, with “RECALADA” in white on sides.

Remarks.—The light-vessel is still a signal-station, but is no longer equipped with W/T. The pilot-vessel, which is stationed in the vicinity, is however, fitted with W/T.

JAPAN.

S. ENTRANCE TO KURUSHIMA STRAIT.—INLAND SEA.

Notice is hereby given that the character, the candle-power, and the visibility of the light of Ohama Lighthouse, Ochi-gun, Yehime Prefecture, will be changed as follows in near future. Further notice will be given after the change has been effected :—

Character of Light.—Alternating red and green, 5 secs. each (incandescent electric light).

Power.—Red light, 3,000 candles; green light, 1,900 candles.

Visibility.—17 nautical miles in clear night.

Note.—Positions, &c., remain unchanged.

SHIMONOSEKI STRAIT.

Notice is hereby given that the character, the candle-power, and the visibility of the lower light of Shimonoseki leading-lights, at the beach of E. extreme of Shimonoseki, have been changed as follows since the 1st April, 1921 :—

Shimonoseki Lowlight—

Character of Light.—Fixed red (electric).

Power.—1,200 candles.

Visibility.—12 nautical miles in clear night.

Note.—Positions, &c., remain unchanged.

INLAND SEA.

Notice is hereby given that the character, the candle-power, and the visibility of the light of Hyakkwanjima Lighthouse, E. entrance to Mekari-seto, Inland Sea, have been changed as follows since the 28th March, 1921 :—

Hyakkwanjima Lighthouse—

Character of Light.—Acetylene gas flashing white light, showing one flash every 10 secs.

Power.—10,000 candles.

Visibility.—22½ nautical miles in clear night.

AUSTRALIA.

TORRES STRAIT, PRINCE OF WALES CHANNEL.—INCE POINT (WEDNESDAY ISLAND).—INTENDED NEW LIGHT.

Mariners and others are hereby notified that a group flashing light with white and red sectors (U) will be established on Ince Point on or about 30th September, 1921.

Position.—On the north extreme of Wednesday Island. Lat. 10° 30½′ S., long. 142° 18¾′ E., on Chart No. 691.

Details :—

Character.—Group flashing light, with white and red sectors, showing three flashes every fifteen seconds, thus: Flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 11½ secs.

Sectors.—White from about 50° (N. 45° E. mag.) through east, south, and west to 300° (N. 65° W. mag.); red from 300° (N. 65° W. mag.) to about 337° (N. 28° W. mag.). Obscured elsewhere by Wednesday Island.

Visibility.—White light, 17 miles; red light, 8 miles.

Power.—White light, 3,000 candles; red light, 1,200 candles.

Structure.—Red frame tower, 27 ft. in height.

Remarks.—The light will be unwatched.

EAST COAST.—QUEENSLAND.—BRISBANE RIVER.—INFORMATION WITH REGARD TO DREDGED CHANNELS.

Position.—Pile Lighthouse, lat. 27° 19′ S., long. 153° 13′ E. (approx.).

Note.—The following notes are to be placed on the undermentioned charts :—

NOTE.

The cuttings and reaches are dredged (1920) as follows :—

(a.) Pile Lighthouse to Bulimba Reach, 26 ft. at L.W.

(b.) Bulimba Reach to Town Reach, 24 ft. at L.W.

Dredging to maintain these depths is always in progress. Attention must be paid to the tidal signals made from the Pile Lighthouse, as the depth is liable to change in all the dredged channels.

The cuttings in the Brisbane River shown on this chart are dredged (1920) to a depth of 26 ft. at low water.

Remarks.—The existing notes, other than those which are superseded by the above notes, are to be amended for the new information given.

ADOLPHUS CHANNEL.—ALBANY ROCK.—INTENDED NEW LIGHT.

Mariners and others are hereby notified that a flashing light with white and red sectors (U) will be established on Albany Rock, on or about 15th September, 1921.

Position.—On the summit of Albany Rock. Lat. 10° 43¼′ S., long. 142° 37¾′ E., on Chart No. 1937.

Details :—

Character.—Flashing light with white and red sectors, showing one flash every five seconds, thus: Flash ½ sec., eclipse 4½ secs.

Sectors.—White from 116° (S. 69° E. mag.) through south and west to 339° (N. 26° W. mag.); red elsewhere except where obscured by adjacent islands.

Visibility.—White light, 15 miles; red light, 8 miles.

Power.—White light, 3,000 candles; red light, 1,200 candles.

Structure.—Square concrete house with white lantern, 22 ft. in height.

Remarks.—The light will be unwatched.

VICTORIA.—POPES EYE BUOY, SOUTH CHANNEL, PORT PHILLIP BAY.

Mariners are hereby notified that the Popes Eye buoy will, as soon as possible, be shifted about a cable to the westward to a position 7 cables, S. 25° W. magnetic, from No. 2 beacon on Popes Eye Annulus. The buoy will be moored in about 35 ft. of water, and will mark the south-western limit of the 22 ft. bank which extends from the annulus.

TASMANIA.—GARDEN ISLAND LIGHT, RIVER HUON.

Notice is hereby given that the light which was removed from the Butts Rock, River Huon, has been re-erected at the south end of Garden Island.

Description of Light.—Occulting, showing a steady white light, with total eclipses at short intervals, the duration of the light and of the eclipse being equal.

The light will be exhibited on and after the night of the 1st June proximo.

The tower is of wood, and is painted white. Height of focal plane above high water, 40 ft. Range of visibility, 11 miles from 303½° (N. 65½° W. mag.) through south to 120° (S. 69° E. mag.).

The light will be unwatched.

WEST COAST.—SHARK BAY, GASCOYNE ROAD.—BABBAGE ISLAND LIGHT.—ALTERATION IN CHARACTER.

Position.—On the north-western side of Babbage Island, near the inner end of the jetty. Lat. 24° 52′ S., long. 113° 38′ E. (approx.).

New Abridged Description.—Lt. fl. W.R. ev. 3 secs., 101 ft., vis. 13 and 9 m. (U).

Alteration.—The character of the light has been altered from fixed, with white and red sectors, to flashing, with white and red sectors, every three seconds, thus: Flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 2·7 secs.

Remarks.—The light is unwatched; the limits of the sectors remain unaltered.

NORTH-WEST COAST.—MOUNT BLAZE.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.

Position.—Lat. 19° 59′ 20″ S., long. 119° 37′ 45″ E. (approx.), on Chart No. 1048.

Abridged Description.—(U) Lt. gp. fl. (2) ev. 6 secs.

Character.—Group flashing white showing two flashes every six seconds, thus: Flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 0·9 sec.; flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 4·5 secs.

Remarks.—The light is unwatched; further details are not stated.
